This is a thread for chit chat, banter, memes and emojis about current politics.

It is NOT intended as a fight club.

It is NOT intended as a place to rehash old arguments about the merits (or otherwise) of Brexit - please pop over to the Brexit forum for that.

Politics threads sometimes attract posters who make personal attacks or who hold their views so very strongly that they find it hard to be respectful of other opinions. Please do not engage with such posters; MN has a handy report button for any posts that fall outside their posting guidelines.

Now, pull up a bar stool, and I'm sure one of our lovely staff will be over with a menu shortly.

Like buses, in threes...you expect one, then they all turn up at once.

BaileysforBreakfast · 05/02/2020 20:21

scary, I assume you're talking about having more than one person on this thread who is not in your 'club'? If not, perhaps you can explain what you mean by that comment?

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 20:22

Another one Chipping in for Frank field and Kate hoey.

They and a few others weren't the only ones who understood all those red wall voters.

If I was Labour Party member I'd be begging for the their return and help to put this Broken shambles back together again.

scaryteacher · 05/02/2020 20:25

Why do I have to explain anything to you Baileys? You're just a random on the internet, not my mother.

I could be talking about cats, husbands, buses, parcels arriving for dh today, lost socks.

You know what they say about assumption don't you?

BaileysforBreakfast · 05/02/2020 20:28

Oh, here we go again.

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 20:28

Were! Were the only ones.

If anyone could see the battle I have with this stupid key pad, it writes everything the opposite of what I want to say!!

scaryteacher · 05/02/2020 20:31

No Baileys here you go again.

BaileysforBreakfast · 05/02/2020 20:33

What have I done exactly? Post an opinion? Agree with Arse about Kate Hoey? This is ridiculous.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/02/2020 20:34

My votes for Frank field and Kate Hoey as well.

Watched Peoples' PMQs, friendly and knowledgeable, could imagine chatting to Boris over a cappuccino. He answered all the questions with a minute to spare so gave us a history lesson on Shakespeare. No wonder so many people like him.

Also read ETs webchat. Long rambling answers, she needs a lesson from Boris.
I took from it: She is against protecting woman's rights.
There was nothing in their election manifesto that she disagreed with.
Losing the election was the Tories fault because they called an election.

Onto Andrews Neil's show now.

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 20:35

Sorry if it's been covered but apparently because we are still in our chain gang, we can't ban flights frome China... Whether that's the right response or not, to think we cannot make it that choice. it's a great feeling to know very soon, we will be free!

To think we can't even make a descion like this!

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 20:38

Loosing the election was the tories fault because they called an election 😂😂😂😂

No humility, no self reflection, no bloody idea.

Hopefully all swept away soon into the sea of total irrelevance.

dh is reminded of his early days in the RN on Fisheries Protection...

Arseaboutdarkly · 05/02/2020 20:46

If I was Labour Party member I'd be begging for the their return and help to put this Broken shambles back together again

Surely it's the tories job to put this broken shambles back together, they're the ones in government Confused

SilverySurfer · 05/02/2020 20:53

I think the sea of total irrelevance has already done a pretty good job, Sally

I've asked this several times on MN but never got a response. Are Labour voters happy with the current policies; if so do you think Labour is electable with them; if not what would you change? Do you believe that it was only Brexit which made people leave Labour in droves to vote Tory?

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 20:56

So it's the torys fault labour lost the election and now its the torys job to put the shambolic ruins of the Labour Party back together again 😂😂

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/02/2020 20:57

Andrew Neil was good, nothing particularly new.

Its not fair if you decriminalise the BBC license fee.

Some French MEP type, "you are not getting a Canada deal, you have to follow our rules or else".

Not much you can really do about Islamic terrorism.

In March Sir Static and Wrong Bailey are getting grilled on the same extended show. One to watch.

XingMing · 05/02/2020 20:59

Whoever raised fox hunting, and I didn't, does need to consider vermin control methods seriously in real life. You may see hunting as the unspeakable in pursuit of the inedible (Oscar Wilde -- not that sharp, me) but foxes are a real problem in rural areas. The population does need to be controlled because they are the cleverest predators, and that means the responsibility ends up with the humans. I can see all the social reasons you don't like hunting but it is hard to kill a fox cleanly with a shot unless you can get very close, and they smell you a L.O.N.G. time before you see them. Hence hunting with dogs.

It may not feel very fair, but anyone who keeps chickens for their eggs is unlikely to get more than 18 months peace before a fox rips the heads off 18 chickens and only takes one carcass away to eat. Foxes are nasty like that.

There is a huge rural-urban division on this. Most town-dwellers have a different view on the right approach. I will probably never convince anyone who lives in a town that I am right. But my dog kills squirrels (when she can catch one, which isn't very often) and the National Trust rangers locally praise her to the skies, and give her treats, because when she catches one, she despatches it faster and more humanely than they could.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/02/2020 20:59

Boris has a job ahead of him if after destroying Labour he now has to fix them. lol 😂😂 Humpty Dumpty.

FelicityFebruary · 05/02/2020 21:01

I can't face ET's webchat.

So thanks for the summary!

scaryteacher · 05/02/2020 21:01

We had squirrels in Belgium Xing in the garden, but they were reds, as there are no greys there, and they were lovely. The cats couldn't get near them, just watch in frustration as they waggled their tails around the garden.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 05/02/2020 21:03

Xing
Its all about presentation, maybe if fox hunting was re-branded. Change red coats for Kimonos, dogs for baseball bats and you will have the left wing liberal elite all in favour of battering foxes to death.

Arseaboutdarkly · 05/02/2020 21:06

There is a huge rural-urban division on this

I grew up in the country and I detest fox-hunting and the whole rotten culture around it. I certainly wasn't alone in that.

WeSavedSallySally · 05/02/2020 21:08

I feel some optimistic at the moment that I'm sure after sorting out lots of irritating issues all the doms and Boris and Kate and Frank etc could fix labour.

Labour as is will not fix themselves

scaryteacher · 05/02/2020 21:11

If you poison them or trap them Xing it's not pretty, and if you don't shoot them cleanly either it's cruel. I've seen several dead ones on the top road recently, along by Silver Valley.

XingMing · 05/02/2020 21:13

My grandfather was a horse dealer with 47 acres of pasture, and refused to allow the local hunt access across his land, but more because he could not have afforded to repair the damage that badly schooled horses or inexperienced riders would have caused to his fences than because he wanted to save foxes.
