As requested, I have contacted MNHQ via the contact provided in the deletion message

Welcome to The Westminster Arms!

🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

A non-partisan politics pub thread for political chit chat....!!

Please stick within MN talk guidelines - any posts which you think may have crossed the line, please report rather than getting into scraps on thread 😠

Political punch-ups are soooo last decade - ain't nobody got time for that 🥊❌

Be nice! Be respectful!

S'ok to slag off politicians, but not other posters 🍻

After 4 years of argument about Brexit I would like to nominate 2 posters for an award. @bellinisurge and @Bearbehind

I have never agreed with them, nor have they often agreed with each other, they are not brexiteers. But unlike most other posters they have tried to straddle the divide and tried to have a civilised discussion with both sides.

I often disagree with them but very much admire them. They have taken 'punishment' from both sides but never given up (including from me). On a weekend where I have the flu and am rereading forums I would like to say thank you to 2 people who are a bit open minded.

They are welcome in the Westminster Arms with frothy tankards waiting. I wish their was more of them.

Neither are troubling the alternative place much, either, these days.

Maybe 'services to the industry'?

AutumnRose1 · 26/01/2020 23:02

walking one of those told everyone where we’d gone, so, no.

Miljea · 26/01/2020 23:13

Autumn you're on MUMSNET not some bloody safehouse.

'Told them where we'd gone'?

It doesn't take a massive leap of deduction, if you care about the bleak state of British politics, to also look on Politics as a talk subject, does it?

Personally, I find the cowardice of this astounding; but in the interests of not getting reported, I wish to state that I completely support your retreat onto another board in order to avoid the conflict that would have righteously been directed your way, had you not hidden. Not everyone has that courage in their convictions.

All I ask, as all Remainers ask, is to not keep dodging your culpability.

AutumnRose1 · 26/01/2020 23:16

Miljea

You’re right. Why on earth should I expect a safe house.

I’ve popped over to the other thread now. Although I will go to bed after a nightcap... last time I said that, I was still here 2 hours later...😳

Miljea · 26/01/2020 23:18

Hint and Tip. The Western People worked our a while ago where this had retreated.

Few, unlike me, now and then, 😉 bothered to 'trouble' you here.

I only did because of the goady 'awards' thing you directed towards a couple of posters who bothered to engage with you.

AutumnRose1 · 26/01/2020 23:23

mil no you’re right, it’s good to potter around threads a bit and talk about politics.

After all, politics turns out to be much less bleak than I thought.

Miljea · 26/01/2020 23:24

Why did you expect a safe house? Why would a Brexit supporter feel the need for that?

C'mon! Where's your bright, shining, economically forward thrusting, world beating Brexit?

Easy goadery aside....You won! Boris has told you how it's going to be! It's what you voted for! You got it!

Why the need for a safe space?

Miljea · 26/01/2020 23:27

Anyway, have to leave it there. NHS worker here. Who laments the loss of our brilliant Portuguese and Polish (all now in Germany...). And now must forensically watch our 'newer staff'. Though they are paid the same as me. Unless they're agency. On way more than me.

This is what you voted for.

Goodnight.

AutumnRose1 · 26/01/2020 23:28

You’ve talked me round Miljea, calm down dear. I agree with you.

Coppersulphate · 26/01/2020 23:29

I have just thanked #bear in another place.
I think it is hard to take the flack from all sides and stay civil. But they have somehow managed it.
Neither have been goady and yes, I have argued with them both.

ommmward · 26/01/2020 23:33

I finally got round to watching Lisa Nandy and Andrew Neill. He really is irritating, the way he asks people for detailed answers and then interrupts them half a sentence in.

I was expecting to be really disappointed, because I'd kind of built her up in my mind as being much less ghastly than all the other candidates. But she seemed to me measured, and saying the right things about building a strong team to prepare for government (which, let's face it, has not been what it has looked like since 2015...)

She's still slightly facing both ways on free movement; not sure if she's going to convince on that. But otherwise yes, I was pretty happy with it.

Walkingdeadfangirl · 26/01/2020 23:34

Autumn your right they did.

I am trying to reflect on what I did right and wrong and its not that easy to answer. I certainly haven't got it right. Brexit is now happening and am trying maybe failing to see how we move forward.

Those 2 posters are not my idols but they are people who have tried with lots of abuse to straddle the divide. I hope we can go forward now as a country.

ommmward · 26/01/2020 23:40

And oh dear me, please not Richard B as deputy. He always says such nonsensical things when he pops up on telly every five minutes

NiceGuyNeddie · 26/01/2020 23:58

walking one of those told everyone where we’d gone, so, no.

I think a period of reflection on your reaction to that would be a very good idea.

AutumnRose1 · 27/01/2020 00:15

Walking “Those 2 posters are not my idols but they are people who have tried with lots of abuse to straddle the divide.”

I’ve only been on for a very short period of time so I’ll take your word for it. Fair enough.

I think I might head into town Friday night after all, though I’m not sure exactly where to head, I don’t know Westminster very well.

scaryteacher · 27/01/2020 00:31

I think a period of reflection on your reaction to that would be a very good idea Should Autumn go to confession and say several mea culpas and a couple of Hail Mary's as well for good measure?

I hope you aren't male niceguy as that might just be a condescending comment.

scaryteacher · 27/01/2020 00:44

News from France: Yesterday's manifs. ended in scuffled violence yesterday in Lyon, Toulouse, Narbonne, Lille and Strasbourg. This was reported in local press but not in the national press.

Italy:It looks as if Salvini has won in Calabria; the results are due in later today.

On the subject of Deutsche bank: Deutsche closing everywhere, as London, NYork and Singapore stop quoting on their exchanges. Selling out in Portugal, India and Poland. Severely trimming in Eire, 7th world bank in 2009 is now 17th and tumbling.
Merkel of course does nothing.

AutumnRose1 · 27/01/2020 00:45

scary I’m actually going back to the men for a bit.

I used to belong to a male dominated board, well, I’m still registered, just dont post after I found MN.

But the mods there are hot on people having a peaceful Brexit thread - they’re good at moderating generally, no flashers on any topic - and you can ignore posters and can’t name change, so at the moment, I think I better head there. No such thing as a Brexit Arms here.

I think I have MN derangement syndrome. What set me off before Walking post was a post by another poster (Different thread) who’d just arrived to piss on everyone’s chips.

I don’t know any Brexiteers in real life, unless you count mum and lord knows I struggle to care for her anyway, I don’t want more chat in that part of my life. So I really enjoyed having a place on MN to chat about it, thanks to all the landladies and regulars.

Logging out now for a while.

NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 00:48

I hope you aren't male niceguy as that might just be a condescending comment.

If you think it's a condescending comment what difference does it make if i'm male or female?

DustyDiamond · 27/01/2020 00:52

Autumn 🍷

It's rubbish that some posters seem hell bent on shutting down these threads 😟

It's relentless.

Come back soon ❤️

NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 01:30

In any case, it certainly wasn't intended as condescending as it followed on from a post by walkingdeadfangirl talking about reflection

scaryteacher · 27/01/2020 01:31

It smacks a bit of patting a little woman on the head neddie, and sounds like just the sort of shite my Dad used to come out with. Alternatively, you could be a Mother Superior type, and that's just as annoying (as is the tone of your comments).

In best MN parlance - did you mean to be so rude, (head tilt, tinkly little laugh).

NiceGuyNeddie · 27/01/2020 01:39

That's the interpretation you put on it, nothing to do with me. The poster it was aimed at has said they think mn might be having a bad effect on them so sounds like I was right
