RowanMumsnet · 22/05/2019 16:09

Hello

As lots of you will know, eligible electors in the UK can head to the polls on Thursday 23 May to vote in the EU parliamentary elections.

We've put together a page with a few facts about this election in the UK (apologies for not covering other EU countries in any detail but you can find more info here).

Let us know on this thread when you've voted (you don't have to tell us how) and we will reward you with an emoticon of your choice*

Polls are open 7am to 10pm on Thursday and remember you DON'T need your polling card to vote.

*From the existing emoticons - we're not magic

Labour Party member - just voted Green.

YessicaHaircut · 23/05/2019 08:55

I’ll be going after work. Another vote for Lib Dem here.

BlueCherries · 23/05/2019 09:04

Lib Dem or Green here.

happymummy12345 · 23/05/2019 09:09

I've never voted for anything to do with politics and never will. I have no interest and anything to do with politics at all. And I have better things to do. I really just don't care at all. And I won't apologise for it.

InMySpareTime · 23/05/2019 09:16

I've voted this morning, because I'm proud to live in a country and continent where I have the freedom to exercise my democratic rights without fear.
I feel sorry for people who neglect to vote, they are deliberately disenfranchising themselves when so many people around the world worked so hard to achieve the rights they discard so carelessly.

calpop · 23/05/2019 09:20

just voted Liberal Democrat here - tactical voting as I like being part of Europe.

noodlenosefraggle · 23/05/2019 09:27

In this election probably more than b any n other, surely its the easiest decision ever? Want Brexit, vote Brexit party/want remain vote Lib Dem, not sure what I want/vote Labour. It's irresponsible and lazy not voting. Just as it is irresponsible and lazy not to vote in elections in general (particularly those who didn't vote in 2016)

safariboot · 23/05/2019 09:30

chalkyc2 in Great Britain you vote for a party. The country is split into a few large regions and each gets a few seats which are assigned to parties in proportion to votes. The parties in turn have lists of candidates in each region to take the seats assigned.

I'll be voting later. I'll also be giving a family member a lift to the polling station even though I wholly disagree with who they plan to vote for, because it's democracy and I still support their right to vote.

RowanMumsnet · 23/05/2019 09:32

Hello - if you're in England, Wales or Scotland, you're just voting for one party (OR one candidate, if there's someone you want to vote for who's the only representative of their party).

If you're in Northern Ireland, you vote by ranking in order of preference.

@chalkyc2

Sorry to be so uninformed - but I know which party I want to vote for but why are there so many candidates for each? And how do you choose? Or do you just vote for a party?

I'm voting later after work.

If you care about Democracy at all then you should be voting for the Brexit Party. Whether you personally like Mr Garage or not - I don't particularly. These elitist buffoons living in their London bubble don't represent me or anyone I know.

MrsCasares · 23/05/2019 09:38

Voted via dog walk. Have voted Green Party. If reasonable people don’t vote, Brexit parties will walk it.

OhHolyJesus · 23/05/2019 09:41

Women suffered and died so I could vote. I would never not vote.

Firecarrier · 23/05/2019 09:42

Reasonable people!

Hah

I am a very reasonable person. Law abiding citizen, good parent, involved in local community, foster carer, volunteer etc and I am 100% voting for the Brexit Party.

There are many, many people like me, however you won't necessarily find us commenting on these sort of sites as the mouthy bombastic remainers generally hold sway here.

Can't wait to get in that booth.

This is why I won't vote for the Brexit party, although it's looking like they will come out on top. Let's face it, these people are self interested and lied through their teeth, and pedalled lots of untruths (like more money for the NHS) during the referendum to get votes. I think most people would regard that as something we would not expect from a democratic voting system.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 23/05/2019 09:51

I'm a whinging, middle-class remoaner, so I'll be voting Lib Dem in another (probably vain) attempt to stop Brexit.

PlumCakeChica · 23/05/2019 09:53

School run voting 🙌. Kids were fascinated.
Voted Lib Dem’s.

Langrish · 23/05/2019 09:54

Tidydancer

I'm working at a polling station tomorrow but have a proxy vote. 'Fuck em all haha' is a terrible attitude to have regarding voting imo.”

This. You should always vote or, frankly, f**k you if you don’t like what you end up with.
I’m voting tactically for our area, not a candidate I’d probably support in a GE but best chance of achieving what I hope for.

darkriver19886 · 23/05/2019 09:56

Will be voting for Lib dem for the first time ever. Proud big mouth remainer here.

Langrish · 23/05/2019 09:56

Yeah, Firecarrier, Mr. “Garage” that well known, bona fide man of the people. Not an elitist buffoon living in a London bubble at all. 🤯🤯🤯

MsMarvellous · 23/05/2019 10:03

Yep. All done.

AnnPerkins · 23/05/2019 10:07

I will walk to the village hall at lunchtime and vote.

I want my vote against any Brexit-supporting party to have the maximum effect but I'm getting contradictory advice whether to choose LD or Greens.

I'm sick of politicians saying 80% of voters chose Brexit-supporting parties in 2017. It wasn't as simple as that Angry. So I want the message to be completely unambiguous this time.

llangennith · 23/05/2019 10:07

Usually Conservative. This time The Brexit Party.

Langrish · 23/05/2019 10:10

LibDem this time to try to bring an end to this collective lunacy.

Tiscold · 23/05/2019 10:14

@chalkyc2. You vote for the party in the election. They've so many candidates as there's multiple seats within a region to be won

Acis · 23/05/2019 10:14

Have voted. Our polling station was very quiet, whereas for the referendum people were queuing down the road at roughly the same time of day. Not sure if that's a good or bad sign.
