EU elections, Thursday 23 May: are you voting?

RowanMumsnet · 22/05/2019 16:09

Hello

As lots of you will know, eligible electors in the UK can head to the polls on Thursday 23 May to vote in the EU parliamentary elections.

We've put together a page with a few facts about this election in the UK (apologies for not covering other EU countries in any detail but you can find more info here).

Let us know on this thread when you've voted (you don't have to tell us how) and we will reward you with an emoticon of your choice*

Polls are open 7am to 10pm on Thursday and remember you DON'T need your polling card to vote.

*From the existing emoticons - we're not magic

Lib Dem voter - they’re the only party that’s always had a consistent anti Brexit position. Hoping for a huge Lib Dem surge. I like change too but the lib dems are getting my vote for their consistency.

MaMaMaMySharona · 23/05/2019 07:28

I’m voting on my way home from my holiday in Cornwall today - will be voting Lib Dem as I am a firm remainer and still holding out hope we can stop all this ridiculous “leaving” malarkey.

Paperdove87 · 23/05/2019 07:32

Agree with posters above. I always vote. Imagine if everyone had the 'fuck them all' attitude!

I'll be voting Lib Dem or green. I've never had to decide on the day before.

AlexaShutUp · 23/05/2019 07:37

Yes, I'll vote, always do. LibDem or Green, still deciding. Want to give the clearest possible indication of my wish to remain.

longwayoff · 23/05/2019 07:42

Lib dem by post

Sculpin · 23/05/2019 07:43

I'll be voting Lib Dem

bellinisurge · 23/05/2019 07:44

@AlexaShutUp Lib Dem gives the clearest possible indication. Why else would you vote for them?

MustardScreams · 23/05/2019 07:44

Lib Dem’s here.

The attitude of not voting is appalling and embarrassing. Women died for us to have the vote, and if you don’t vote you have no right to complain about anything politically related.

mizu · 23/05/2019 07:48

Yep. Will go after work. Lib Dem or green. Undecided but probably Lib Dem.

badlydrawnperson · 23/05/2019 07:53

Already cast my postal vote

whyayepetal · 23/05/2019 07:54

Whole family eligible to vote for the first time, and keen to have a voice. Both DDs ineligible to vote in the brexit referendum, but cannot wait to have their say now! DH already voted, and we all will have by the end of the day.

OublietteBravo · 23/05/2019 07:56

I’m going to vote with DH (once he gets back from the airport). I haven’t decided whether to vote LibDem or Green, but it will definitely be one of those options today.

BigSandyBalls2015 · 23/05/2019 07:59

Yep Lib Dem

WizzyBee · 23/05/2019 08:04

Got to work before polling stations opened but will tactically vote Green on my way home.

It is a hard won privilege to be able to vote in free and fair (as far as we know!) elections. Can't be doing with people who can't be bothered and then moan about politicians.

wonkylegs · 23/05/2019 08:12

I'm voting, I will always vote but I will admit in the past few years it's been much harder to find someone I actually want to vote for!

5foot5 · 23/05/2019 08:12

@MaMaMaMySharona. Yup LibDem here for the same reasons.
Everyone in our house (DH, DD and I) is eligible to vote and I am pretty sure we are all of the same opinion.

@whyayepetal DD was old enough to vote in the referendum but needed a postal vote and, despite applying as soon as it was possible, it didn't arrive in time. A remain vote lost. Sad

SherlockHolmesPipe · 23/05/2019 08:13

I voted for the Brexit Party Grin I voted to leave the EU. Tory and Labour are as bad/divided/shite as each other. Lib dems should remove Democrats from their name as they wish to ignore the referendum result.

Gigglinghysterically · 23/05/2019 08:15

I sent off my postal vote as soon as I received it. I usually vote but have not bothered with the European Elections. However, this time I considered it essential to vote in order to send the UK govt a message about Brexit.

RestingBitchFaced · 23/05/2019 08:27

Yes! Have always voted Labour but I'm giving my vote to Plaid Cymru after recent events

WeirdCatLady · 23/05/2019 08:31

Brexit Party vote from me.

ddl1 · 23/05/2019 08:32

Yes! Just off to do so!

thugmansion · 23/05/2019 08:32

Voted Labour for 40+ years but voting LD this time for same reasons as pp

LimitIsUp · 23/05/2019 08:36

Am voting Change UK. Off out in a minute

chalkyc2 · 23/05/2019 08:46

Sorry to be so uninformed - but I know which party I want to vote for but why are there so many candidates for each? And how do you choose? Or do you just vote for a party?

I'm voting later after work.

piglet81 · 23/05/2019 08:50

I've voted. I always do.
