Since the Grenfell tower incident, how do you feel about the Conservatives?

Since the Grenfell tower incident, how do you feel about the Conservatives?

I ask as Theresa May is very unpopular especially from this incident, so is this bad blood felt for Theresa May herself, as Prime Minister do you think she should of have done more?
Or do you think it's the Conservatives as a whole to blame? and why
......let the discussion begin!

I actually don't believe they are to blame for the tragedy (unsure it would be avoided whichever government in power) but Theresa May has handled her response badly.

I didn't like the conservatives anyway but this hasn't helped.

My opinion of the Conservatives and Cruella, in particular couldn't have got much lower. So, my views are still exactly the same as if it hadn't happened.

She's not rsponsible for the tragedy but she is 100% responsible for the complete lack of leadership and compassion when it was needed most.

I voted Labour last week but I wasn't particularly a tory hater. But some of the things I have learnt in the aftermath of the fire, such as 312 tory mps voting against a law that would require homes to be fit for human habitation, and Boris Johnson telling people worried about fire cuts to 'get stuffed', are just so awful that I don't think my opinion of them could sink any lower right now.

The aftermath of the fire has been handled so badly and people have been left completely at the mercy of volunteers with no official support, it reminds me of Katrina. Whoever is ultimately to blame for the fire, things I have learned about the tories and their values have ensured I will never ever vote for them.

My view of the Tories hasn't changed.

Their contempt for the people at the bottom of the socio-economic heap has been evident for years. Grenfell has not exposed anything new. It has simply made it more tragic.

I've also been reminded of Katrina and how all those very poor people were treated.

We're one of the richest countries in the world yet there were people wandering the streets, traumatised and bereaved, at the mercy of volunteers. (Who did a fab job)

I think this has exposed the fact that the people at the bottom of the heap are ignored by those at the top. Strangely, it's TMs excuse that she couldn't meet survivors and families on her site visit due to 'security concerns' - as though they couldn't be trusted to not lamp her one - that speaks volumes to me. The whole thing is a catalogue of dreadfulness, but that little detail seemed very telling to me.

I don't believe that the Conservative Party is conspiring to kill over anyone who earns below a threshold wage - I just think they cared more about cutting costs than proactively safeguarding lives, and they seem to place far too much faith in the power of the market to sort things out. It's just that these poor people weren't in a position to fill in the gaps for themselves.

I'm no more a fan now than I was before, it's fair to say.

Sorry to say but my opinion on this will sound a little amalgamated with the others.
An alternative view is that I think a part of Theresa May was worried for her personal safety from the angry +100, yet she has body guards all over; so I think she needn't of been worried!

Nevertheless, I do agree that she should of showed humanity and support as a Prime Minister of this grieving city rather than just promising X amount of money to chuck at the victims.

I thought the Tories were complete tossers to begin with so the potential for them to lose my support was marginal at best.

I do feel confirmed in my stance once more, though.

Yes, but come on. It didn't need to be 100+ people all at once, it could have been 'community leaders' with their mp or whatever.... and a bit of flannel about 'not wanting to hinder any aid efforts', as opposed to a blunt 'security concerns' might have been preferable too.

It was needlessly rude to snub people in the way she did, and feeds into the image that they just don't care. 'If people show you who they are, believe them' springs to mind!

I have no love for the Tories anyway. But this...this is the net result of profit over people. They knew the risks and did nothing. Other countries have banned the use of these panels that allowed the fire the breath to spread so fast...but our regulations were not changed as Cameron decided it hampered the growth of home building by big corporations. £2 per panel. That's all it was..£2 extra for fire retardant panels that other countries have to use if on a high tower block. That's the price of safely to the tories..£2. Angry? Livid!! Now May wants no queens speech next year as they know how unpopular they are. NO! They must go.

If we are going to blame the tories for Grenfell, then we must also look back at Lakanal. In that case, Southwark Council was convicted of 4 charges relating to fire safety. There were many more charges, but the others were dropped when the Council plead guilty. Councils of all colours haven't given a flying fuck about the safety of high rise blocks for years.

I don't think May is a bad person (although I don't agree with her politics) but the aftermath of the Grenfell fire has just compounded the impression she gave during the election campaign, that she is severely lacking in people skills. After an incident like this a PM must be able to demonstrate empathy (as well as coordinate an adequate relief plan). Sadly May seems always utterly terrified of meeting the public in any way that isn't stage managed. During the Blitz the royals showed up in the East End to show solidarity and sympathy, they got badly heckled but ultimately people appreciated them showing up as that was part of their role. Tbh it's not as though we can even say 'well she's a skilled politician so this stuff doesn't matter', but her skills as a politician seem desperately stretched too.

Brexit negotiations start on Monday and the British govt seems woefully underprepared. Bloody disgrace.

I don't blame them for the tragedy, the roots of what happened in that tower block go back through multiple Governments.

However at the moment I see Theresa May and I think Marie Antoinette. She's out of her depth and has been since she became Prime Minister.

What's "Antifa"? It's a term I've only ever seen bandied around by right wing trolls in the US and I'm not clear what it means in the UK context..

It is the Anti-Fascist Network. If you don't believe they exist in the UK, a search of "UK Antifa" in Facebook or Twitter, or even google, will help.

I suppose some people will think they are beyond criticism as they call themselves "Anti-Fascists" Hmm
