You know what, Corbyn could actually win this election.

He really could, the polls are looking good for labour.
TM might regret her decision to call this snap election.

Tories have no mention of costing their policies

MinkowskisButterfly · 22/05/2017 19:25

I hope so, I really do but in the back of my mind is I thought this about brexit and look what happened there. I sound so defeatist, I wish I didn't.

Merry, my facebook is the same however, we tend to align ourselves with people with the same values as ourselves and our feeds show this.

GrangeMill · 22/05/2017 19:25

I don't think he'll win but it will be a lot closer than originally predicted. The care bill thing will really shoot the tories in the foot. We know most voters vote for their own self interest and this will hit 2 of their core target groups hard. The reasonably well off elderly and the middle aged people expecting to inherit from them. It's a perfectly reasonable plan imo but I don't think it's reasonable to expect people to vote for it!

ILoveDolly · 22/05/2017 19:27

Nah. Not where I love. It's the safest safe seat for Tories and if they lose to anyone it might be Lib Dem. Labour have 4% of the vote!!!

ILoveDolly · 22/05/2017 19:28

Gah! Live

Violetcharlotte · 22/05/2017 19:28

I'm really pleased to see the gap is closing between the Conservatives and Labour. I would love to see Labour win, but sadly I think it's unlikely. What an amazing feat that would be for Corbyn though if he did manage to pull it off!

sarahloupowell · 22/05/2017 19:30

I question why Tory voters don't want to make their support known. I get criticised on a daily basis for my leftist views but that wouldn't stop me from vocalising my opinion. I don't preach and will happily discuss why I hold the views I do. Surely if you are happy to vote Tory you shouldn't be ashamed. People say it's because they will be Abused but I have seen more negativity aimed towards the left than the other way round!

SoulLove · 22/05/2017 19:32

I feel the same butterfly. To be honest Brexit and Trump have both had me beyond rattled, so I am seriously not holding out any hope at all. If I am wrong I will be UTTERLY delighted but I can't cope with false hope

SoulLove · 22/05/2017 19:33

I do, however, think it will be a lot closer than first thought

Willdoublecheck · 22/05/2017 19:35

I actually think that he WILL win it

CaptainBrickbeard · 22/05/2017 19:35

WellErrr, where will the Tories get the money for Brexit? There is a lot of talk about Labour's sums not adding up but if anyone is relying on a magic money tree, it's the Conservatives who intend to produce billions of pounds to pay the bill for leaving the EU. And we know they won't be taking it from the rich, so...austerity to the extreme beckons. My question would be, how could anyone vote for that? Labour have costed their manifesto, the Tories haven't. Why is that?

I don't think Labour will win but they have rallied more than anyone expected so I hope we will at least have a robust opposition to hold the government to account. That's the best thing for democracy. I'd love a galvanising of the young to vote and really change the political landscape. I would love to give Labour's promises a go - their manifesto offers the opportunity for real progress. But I know better than to hope, after the disappointments of the recent elections. The control of the media by Tory-backing billionaires who want to protect their tax status will no doubt hand May the victory she has banked on - but I desperately hope it won't be as decisive as she envisaged.

Kursk · 22/05/2017 19:35

I am not sure how this one was going to go, I successfully predicted the EU referendum, and the Trump election. For both of those there was a noticeable undercurrent of discontent that was the opposet of the polls

This election isn't so easy. I think that there is the potential for the conservatives to loose. There is enough of a opposition. However the opposition is fractured between Lib/Lab. So TM will win.

The only way for lab to win would be for every Lib voter to vice lLab tactically

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2017 19:44

I hope to fuck not.

Social media beens nothing, my FB feed was full of remainers, it is now full of anti-Tory hyperbole.

Same with MN, the left wing are always more vocal because they believe the right-wing are evil rhetoric, hence anyone who is right-wing for perfectly sensible reasons can't be arsed with the ballache of actually engaging.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2017 19:45

'Means' nothing, not beens, obviously.

SenseiWoo · 22/05/2017 19:50

It occurs to me that if you are young, hard up and fed up with the status quo, voting for Corbyn could seem like an appealing, rebellious, 'fuck the elite' kind of gesture. If you had that mindset then the more the papers decry him as useless and a Labour government as disastrous, the more attractive voting Labour could seem.

I've no idea if this is what anyone actually thinks, but I am wondering if JC (said to be a surprisingly effective campaigner in person) has steathily positioned himself as a kind of Trump of the left, to young voters at least-the more the vested interests tell you not to vote for me, the more you should kind of thing.

ILikeyourHairyHands · 22/05/2017 19:52

I'm not so sure about 'echochambers', it's just another chuffing buzzword that everyone's picked up and likes to chuck around.

I use plenty of social-media, and believe me, it's generally the left-wing who enjoy a bit of vocal shoutyness.

I just roll my eyes and hold my whisht, largely because it's pointless trying to engage someone who's ranting, and let's face it, political discussions on social media are not exactly measured affairs.

fuzzylogic72 · 22/05/2017 19:53

Well after that car crash interview May just did. Anything is possible. How we're supposed to trust her with the EU lot when she crumbles and resorts to rhetoric after some very plain questions.

She had an easy time and she fell apart.

GrangeMill · 22/05/2017 19:54

I think that's exactly why FB etcakes him appear more popular than he will actually be on the day Sense. Unfortunately, those groups express views (or more likely, like others' views) on social media but few of them vote.

PortiaCastis · 22/05/2017 19:54

Agreed fuzzy talk about um and erm those are her favourite utterances
What a car crash but it made me laugh

TheSultanofPingu · 22/05/2017 19:55

The Tories will win. The best we can ask for is that it isn't the landslide victory that was originally predicted.

SenseiWoo · 22/05/2017 19:57

Good point Grange. I hate it when people opine at length and then you find out they aren't even planning to vote.

LittleBearPad · 22/05/2017 21:22

Captain

WellErrr, where will the Tories get the money for Brexit? There is a lot of talk about Labour's sums not adding up but if anyone is relying on a magic money tree, it's the Conservatives who intend to produce billions of pounds to pay the bill for leaving the EU.

Labour would have to pay the same bill. That hasn't been costed, along with their nationalisation plans.

TeddyIsaHe · 22/05/2017 21:28

As much as I would love it, I don't hold any hope in polls anymore after the last election, Brexit and Trump fiascos! We can hope for less of a landslide victory but I'm convinced it'll be Tory for another five years.

Parrcful · 22/05/2017 21:29

smeating I really want to vote Labour, but I'm also torn over tactical voting as I'm in a LD area.. What do i do....??

TheBenignSorceress · 22/05/2017 21:56

I will vote Lib Dem because in my area the Lib Dems came a very close second to the Tories in 2015 with Labour at about a third of the Tory / Lib Dem vote.

I am à Labour supporter but will do whatever it takes to remove May.
