if you tell people something enough they start to believe it.

Precisely.

Say I Am Strong And Stable fifty billion times and the half wits believe it.

Starlighter · 08/05/2017 12:56

The arrogance and self-righteousness of this post is something to be ashamed of, OP. We live in a democracy and we all vote for reasons we want to. It's about choice, not shooting down anyone who disagrees with you.

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 08/05/2017 14:38

Well ICM poll has Tories with a 22 point lead....

PigletWasPoohsFriend · 08/05/2017 14:38

Say I Am Strong And Stable fifty billion times and the half wits believe it.

Well insulting people is really going to persuade them to vote 'your way' isn't it.

Ridiculous

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 14:51

Say I Am Strong And Stable fifty billion times and the half wits believe it

Is that sensible, rational, intelligent, thoughtful political discussion?

What has gone so wrong with this country that people think that insulting people is a replacement for rational debate? Why do so many people think that talking rubbish makes them look intelligent, as long as they just throw in a bit of name-calling? It really doesn't.

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 14:57

butterfly I've been a big J Pie fan up to now but I'm disappointed to see he's joining in with the misogynist insults against Theresa May in his latest video (can't remember exactly and not minded to watch again but some crude sexual innuendo about May and Trump). Saddened by that - it is possible to be satirical, witty, biting etc without joining in with nasty misogyny.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:08

90% of this thread is sneering at Labour voters and calling them stupid

But oh the outrage..

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 15:27

Can you give an example Monkey ?

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 15:36

I've reread pages 1,2,3 and 8,9,10. Haven't found one comment sneering at Labour voters. A few criticisms of the Labour party and Labour politicians. Please do point out these sneery comments.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:47

Actually there are so many threads. This is one of the tamer ones. But sneering at Labour voters..not very gracious from the party leading in the polls..is totally rife here on MN

Radishal · 08/05/2017 15:51

Monkey. That's nonsense. I have a look at, and contribute to, most of the GE threads. There is no Tory sneering at Labour to really speak of. Unless you are one of these idiots who think Labour voters who criticise Corbyn are actually Tories.
Please grow up. Vote how you like but I cannot vote Labour while Corbyn is leader. And I have always voted Labour. Since the 80s.

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 15:51

Okay, so other posters on other threads have sneered at Labour voters, so people on this thread shouldn't point out that sneering at Tory voters or indeed any voters, is unhelpful and politically counterproductive? Hmm

Not quite following your logic there but never mind.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:52

Wrong i agree.

I wasnt actually originally addressing you.

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 15:53

And to go from "90% of posts" to "oh, different threads actually" Confused

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:54

See i just got called an idiot just in case i think that Labour voters who object to Corbyn are Tories. And told to grow up.

Not because i think it, but just In CASE.

I never said that.

I find it appalling people vote Tory because they object to Corbyn, if they claim to be left wing, though.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:55

So i got my threads mixed up.

I am on another thread which is chock full of people sneering at Labour voters.

I held my hands up to getting threads confused..

So sue me. Busy day here

Radishal · 08/05/2017 15:55

And so I am voting Tory because I won't vote for Corbyn? More idiotic nonsense.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 15:57

I said people who SAY they are voting Tory because they dont like Corbyn, but claim to be Labour supporters, are appalling.

If that is not you, then i didnt mean you.

Wrong. I wont bring other threads up here but there is another ine where i have about 5 Tories laying into me. It gets confusing

Especially when people lay into me for things i havent even said but MIGHT think.

Radishal · 08/05/2017 15:59

The number of people who have said they always vote Labour but are voting Tory this time is pretty small as fad as MN posts are concerned.
You know they have a right to, don't you?

EngTech · 08/05/2017 16:00

Come the GE result, people can raise concerns that it was the wrong result and like the result for Brexit complain loudly about it plus try to get the result overturned.

Democracy is a right pain at times, should not be allowed Biscuit

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 16:01

My last post was a x post with you Monkey, I wasn't meaning to be arsy.

I think we agree - name-calling and insulting on all sides is not good. It does all get a bit heated at times which is really not good.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 16:01

So why are YOU taking offence at my view on them if it isnt you? I am aware its their right and i have my right to have my opinion on them.

You're sounding a wee bit deranged for laying into me about something i have never said and dont even think.

Please.go away and direct your anger at someone who has actually said the thing that has enraged you, not someone who MAY think it in your mind.

TheMonkeyandthePlywoodViolin · 08/05/2017 16:02

Wrong..thanks. that was also a x post. I was addressing radishul.

I agree with you. I'm even being attacked for views i dont hold .

WrongTrouser · 08/05/2017 16:05

Radishal Latest ICM poll is showing 12% of those who voted Labour in 2015 are planning to vote Tory. I have no idea how this compares to a usual election though - there are always floating voters. Seems high though.

Radishal · 08/05/2017 16:21

Monkey, how do you think Thatcher got elected? She was more convincing than Labour after the winter of discontent. I suspect some of those voters might have been (whisper it) traditional Labour voters.
Being dismissive of people because they vote Tory (even if I am not one of them) misses the point.
Labour should be asking itself why it isn't convincing enough people.
