But as you're such a smartypants, let's hear it.

That's the second time you've done that in this thread alone, Southall - put forward some proposition then demanded that other posters produce the evidence to justify your proposition. It doesn't work like that.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:19

How would profiling and questionnaires work and how would they be applied.
You have a Conservative government who could apply that strategy to see if it would work. They are most cerainly not liberals, so, how do liberals allow FGM to flourish?

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:21

Lweji - I told you myself that profiling & questionnaires would not work. Do you not fully read posts?

Kaija · 17/12/2016 10:22

"But as you're such a smartypants, let's hear it."

I never once suggested I had a solution, and I wasn't the one rubbishing all current attempts to address this issue fgs.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:24

I thought you meant dead end as in it wouldn't be implemented.
If you think it wouldn't work, why mention it, then?

Will you admit at any point that you shouldn't have said that liberals allow FGM to flourish?

Missswatch · 17/12/2016 10:29

Have seen Rogue One. There is no hidden political agenda. If you reeeallyyy want to look that far into it however the Empire, like Episodes 4, 5, 6, and 7 (except Finn) are all white and the rebels tend to be diverse. I'd rather just enjoy the film tbh. No need to find political agendas where there are none

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:29

Deepan What is unlawful in this country is made clear to newcomers. They know the score, but they ignore it because they want to.

Bigamous marriage is not allowed, but a man can marry several women in a faith ceremony which is binding (and this is done), one is the legal "Mrs" and the others are not but live in the same house as wives. They are allowed to claim basic welfare, such as JSA.

DeepanKrispanEven · 17/12/2016 10:31

Yet again, how does any of that amount to liberals allowing FGM to flourish.

And yes, the law is regularly ignored, both by immigrants and non-immigrants. What is the relevance of that? It doesn't meant that, as a country, we close our eyes to any of it - if that were the case, we wouldn't have the relevant laws and government guidance in place at all.

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:35

Current attempts to addess FGM are done by groups usually set up in response to something. I was a volunteer at Southall Black Sisters for example, but there are many such organisations.

The girls who presented all said their parents knew XX was illegal but they still wanted it for them anyway. Customs based on faith trump manmade law.

DeepanKrispanEven · 17/12/2016 10:36

So how does that amount to liberals allowing FGM to flourish?

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:37

I have not heard of a single prosecution or fine of a parent re FGM. Have you?

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:39

Too many teenagers on here today ......... comprehension problem. Going to mow the grass.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:40

I have not heard of a single prosecution or fine of a parent re FGM. Have you?

Assuming that's true. How is it the fault of liberals?
Conservative government for the last 6 years.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:43

Missswatch

We were mocking the idea of Rogue One having a hidden political agenda.
It's Pro-Trump people who are saying it does and are boycotting it. Which is ridiculous.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:44

I was a volunteer at Southall Black Sisters
The girls who presented all said their parents knew XX was illegal but they still wanted it for them anyway.

What did you do about it?

Missswatch · 17/12/2016 10:49

They are wrong. Unless there really is a hidden message. I was more interested in cameos, easter eggs, politics between Tarkin and Krennic, the space battles and Darth Vader kicking ass

BertrandRussell · 17/12/2016 10:50

southallgirl, yesterday you said that you had a solution to FGM but you coildn't say what it was because "this is Mumsnet"

Have you reconsidered that?

You also told me that there were things I wanted to say and do that I was prevented from saying and doing because of political correctness. I am still waiting to hear what they are.

DeepanKrispanEven · 17/12/2016 10:50

Teenagers - oh, my aching sides. Just for the record, I'm a fully fledged adult, and as a matter of fact I have worked in two organisations which regularly work with Southall Black Sisters in helping women.

If you think we haven't understood when you've explained how you claim that liberals allow FGM to flourish, please point us to the post where you did that.

Lweji · 17/12/2016 10:53

"MPs have said it is "unforgivable" that there have been no UK prosecutions since laws against FGM were introduced nearly 30 years ago."

So, 30 years of Labour and Tory governments. Judges and police come from all political sides, but "liberals" are to blame. Why?

If anything, it's shameful for the UK as a nation. Not something to criticise liberals about.

SouthallGirl · 17/12/2016 10:58

I dont know if some of you live in a fairyland, but nothing can proceed without the girl's statement on paper. They would not even allow one of our seniors to call on the parents. SBS advised each and every one of them what they could do, the law was behind them, but they were too afraid because it would probably mean either living in a hostile atmosphere at home, or the family disowning them.

After I left, I was told about one girl who gave permission for SBS to call on her mother, which SBS did. The mother gave assurances that she would not go ahead, but went ahead some months later and took her daughter back to her own country and she was cut. SBS did not hear that from the girl herself, but one of their sources.

Do you understand?

Missswatch · 17/12/2016 11:01

Don't forget Rotherham either. Untold stuff going on and it couldn't be investigated because racism

Lweji · 17/12/2016 11:04

We understand all that.

What we don't understand is how you can blame liberals specifically.
But we are patient.
All the time in the world we have.

DeepanKrispanEven · 17/12/2016 11:06

Yes, as repeatedly acknowledged, we know that evidence is needed for a successful prosecution or action to stop a child leaving the country for FGM. It's perfectly obvious that we understand. So what? How does that amount to liberals allowing it to flourish?

Kaija · 17/12/2016 11:16

David Remnick here on Trump:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-38344175

DeepanKrispanEven · 17/12/2016 11:23

Interesting example of the actions of dreadful liberals in relation to FGM: Afusat Saliu, 31 is a Nigerian national who was subjected to FGM herself and fled to this country to escape threats from her family to make sure that her daughters were subjected to his, and also to escape threats from Boko Haram. Her Labour MP, George Mudie, had to write to the then Immigration Minister James Brokenshire on two occasions before he could be persuaded to intervene and stop the deportation. But then he deported her anyway. But obviously all of that is the fault of liberals.
