I'm not troll hunting.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 19:39

I can assure you I am not interested in your motivations. I am very interested in it as a phenomenon though.

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 19:41

You are insinuating that certain posters are trolls

Roussette · 16/12/2016 19:48

This is a very strange conversation. I follow it, yet I don't. How the sobbing liberals are turning away which means allowing FGM god alone knows. Sounds to me southall ... as if you'd blame these pesky liberals for everything. I would love to know what you would do.

Ontopofthesunset · 16/12/2016 19:49

Thank you for that article, Kaija. Very interesting.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 19:56

Well missswatch it's not quite that actually. It seems to me that the odd style of posting pioneered by trolls is seeping into usage all over the place.

I have long ago given up speculating on who might or might not be a troll in the sense of either of being paid or acting in a voluntary but coordinated capacity within a political organisation. I have no idea how one would tell. Nor indeed what one could usefully do with the information if it were possible. But the fact that it happens is interesting, and generally to be borne in mind.

It is a pretty interesting article, which I would highly recommend, and although focused on btl comments on a Brexit related article is equally applicable to Trump.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:00

"The suffragettes would laugh at how much of a soft bunch you are"

This is quite a strange comment.

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 20:07

Not really. The suffragettes were badass. The feminists of today are weak

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:09

So what do you think the suffragettes would do right now?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 20:14

Maybe Misss expects feminists to torch mosques or something.
Or maybe post the addresses of families where FGM is practiced.

Or spend the next 10 years screaming outside mosques and accomplish exactly zero.

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 20:16

A lot more than crying on a forum that's for sure

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:18

Such as?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 20:18

It might be worth pointing out that South was the one crying about FGM on a forum.
I still don't know why it was even mentioned in a Trump thread.

squishysquirmy · 16/12/2016 20:24

The suffragettes didn't agree with each other about everything.
Much like feminists now do not have a hive mind.
It is a bit weird to blame liberals for not dealing adequately with FGM, and then later say that nothing can be done to stop FGM occurring.
I think that further alienating Muslim women will have the opposite effect we would want - girls are even less likely to come forward about abuse if they see the authorities as openly hostile towards them.

Misss, are you suggesting we should spend less time on mumsnet and more time bombing the summer residences of politicians?

Roussette · 16/12/2016 20:26

I still don't know why it was even mentioned in a Trump thread

Nor me.

I've entered the twilight zone

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/12/2016 20:27

Right back to trump!!!!

He's a git isnt he

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 20:29

You suggesting nothing gets done squishy?

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:38

Well there was a suggestion in this thread or the last one that Trump would bring peace to Israel. This isn't looking very promising:

www.vox.com/world/2016/12/16/13980806/david-friedman-trump-israel-ambassador-pick

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 20:40

By the seems of things you want to blow stuff up. Not very nice

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:41

Who wants to blow stuff up?

Roussette · 16/12/2016 20:46

Not very nice

Because we don't agree with all you say?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/12/2016 20:48

Thanks for the article kaiji

A lot is concerning me at the moment not necessarily trump

Recently read a book which sort of showed how close we always are to countries falling out and everytime i turn on the telly a conflict in the book seems to be flaring up

I am almost positive Israel was mentioned as well

I think it may be safer if i just stop reading...anything

Kaija · 16/12/2016 20:51

Missswatch it was you that suggested we should be more like the suffragettes, who blew stuff up.

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/12/2016 20:52

Oh my goodness

This thread has become very boring...

Lweji · 16/12/2016 22:08

Rufus, for your entertainment:

And the new Secretary of the Department of Energy?
Rick Perry.
The guy who couldn't remember the third of the three departments he wanted to get rid of in his 2012 attempt. EPA? Something else? Who knows.
