Bertrand - We are on MN so best not to.

BertrandRussell · 16/12/2016 18:16

Why not?

SouthallGirl · 16/12/2016 18:18

Have to finish my letter to RAC and then I'm going over to another thread that has just opened. Cheerio.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 18:27

Perhaps you're right, uncontrolled.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 18:32

"Bertrand - We are on MN so best not to"

What does this mean? That you have a solution to the horrific problem of fgm that is itself so awful it cannot be discussed on here? And yet will stop it happening?

Kaija · 16/12/2016 18:38

Anyway. On Trump, a rallying cry for the resistance from Paul Krugman here:

Lweji · 16/12/2016 18:40

Feminists will say it is a patriarchal practice but they wouldn't dare protest outside a Muslim community

What do you think a protest by women that are not even part of the community accomplish?

RufusTheSpartacusReindeer · 16/12/2016 18:42

inkata

I have reported on threads and not always said that i have

Its in case it doesnt get deleted and i look like a right twat going

"I am telling mumsnet off you!!!"

I do usually say i have reported...its just occasionally, like on this thread Smile

Not going to say if it was deleted or not...the whole looking like a twat thing

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 18:45

What do you think a protest by women that are not even part of the community accomplish?

That you are women and you don't tolerate such a practice? Maybe you can hand out literature by Germaine Greer or something?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 18:45

Nothing can actually be done - that's the point

So, you have no solutions and no real justification of how liberals encourage FGM to flourish.
Not even that FGM is indeed flourishing.

But you have time to post that you are doing something else.

Lweji · 16/12/2016 18:50

That you are women and you don't tolerate such a practice?

And that accomplishes what?

What are the consequences of that lack of tolerance?

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 19:01

And that accomplishes what?
What are the consequences of that lack of tolerance?

You tell me. You know what feminism wants to achieve better than what I do. Clearly they don't want to stop FGM

Kaija · 16/12/2016 19:02

Good grief.

SouthallGirl · 16/12/2016 19:02

So, you have no solutions and no real justification of how liberals encourage FGM to flourish

Well-meaning liberals set up great checklists, and teachers improve their observational skills to FBI standard, but the point is no one can act on suspicion. Only if a girl collapses at school and the school nurse sees blood and then on further investigation ........

But a girl will not put her parents into trouble with the authorities, and she's also been told that she will not make a good marriage if she is not cut. What can she do, what can anyone do? She's living in Europe but still has to submit to her parents will.

FGM is bad enough, but there is also total infibulation which I believe is still popular in some parts of the world. Before the woman gives birth, she has to be opened up with scalpel otherwise she cannot deliver.

I've been trying to find out what happens afterwards, because the husband becomes anxious and demanding that after delivery his wife is sewn up again. As it's illegal to do that in any UK hospital, I dont know what happens.

Lweji · 16/12/2016 19:06

""The challenge is that you need to work on many levels. You need to work on people's convictions, that this practice does not do what they think it does," says Germaine Haddad, program officer at the UNFPA Egypt office.

Changing deep-seated cultural customs and behaviors will be tough where pressure from society and family members to continue tradition is intense."

Misss, you're missing it again.

You're the one saying feminists should protest. So, you tell me what that would accomplish. How would protesting by white women change a whole set of cultural values?

Feminists have been working to develop laws about it and working with the communities. But you think protesting outside mosques is more effective. Why?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 19:08

South, we are aware of what the problem is and how difficult to improve.
But you blamed liberals. Yet, you've not shown how liberals are at fault.
What more do you want liberals to do?

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 19:11

Again, you tell me. You have the divine knowledge or Greer, Dwakin, Steinem etc

The suffragettes would laugh at how much of a soft bunch you are

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 19:19

South, we are aware of what the problem is and how difficult to improve

Instead you attack straight white men and talk about this supernatural force you call 'patriarchy'

Lweji · 16/12/2016 19:22

Misss, I know it's Friday, but stay off the wine.

"Talk sense to a fool and he calls you foolish."
Euripides, The Bacchae

Kaija · 16/12/2016 19:24

"Instead you attack straight white men and talk about this supernatural force you call 'patriarchy"

Well this is a Trump thread. What's supernatural about the patriarchy?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 19:27

Do I talk about patriarchy?
I've done a search and I used that word twice on MN.

BertrandRussell · 16/12/2016 19:27

Does anyone else feel as if they've stepped through the looking glass?

Missswatch · 16/12/2016 19:30

Misss, I know it's Friday, but stay off the wine.

I prefer my Polish vodka if anything

Kaija · 16/12/2016 19:30

A little, Bertrand, but it's becoming quite a familiar feeling lately.

Put me in mind a bit of this quite interesting article which I posted yesterday on another thread.

Kaija you are aware troll-hunting is against the site rules right?
