Of course it's a win and an endorsement. You say Trump is sexist yet women voted for him. You say he is racist but non-whites voted for him

Missswatch · 15/12/2016 23:40

Yes lweji. The same ones MNers use

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:41

In this is self-evidently not an echo-chamber. But if someone says something so obviously untrue you've got to expect there might be some unanimity of response.

SouthallGirl · 15/12/2016 23:41

Well yes that would make you a homophobe

You have revealed your own misunderstanding, Kaija. This is not what Tatchell means. You are not homophobe if you do not approve of or agree that being gay is normal. Liberal means you can hold whatever view you wish, BUT you do not "discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation."

Liberal means holding whatever view you want but NOT necessarily acting upon them if in conflict with the country's laws.

Lweji · 15/12/2016 23:43

But if someone says something so obviously untrue you've got to expect there might be some unanimity of response.

And then you resort to actual silencing tactics.

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:44

Yes but you see you can hold whatever view you want, even if it is homophobic. That's the point. You're entitled to your opinion, and I am entitled to call you a homophobe.

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:44

How much of this meeting do you think they spent talking about windfarms Claig?

claig · 15/12/2016 23:46

OMG. Trump's team is rubbing it in. They know that Farage is loved by the People's Army and hated by the BBC and the elites and they are winding the elites up.

"Steve Bannon, a key Trump aide, told Bloomberg: “His ideas will always be listened to seriously in a Trump White House.”

A spokesman for US senator Rand Paul added that “Nigel Farage will be an essential part in implementing a new treaty” between the UK and US.

"Look away, Boris - Farage is back at Trump Tower! But he says Donald may be too 'busy with other stuff' to see him"

Nigel Farage was spotted going into Trump Tower Thursday afternoon

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4037822/No-Trump-meeting-planned-Farage.html

At this rate, Farage is going into Trump Tower more than the pizza delivery man.

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:50

Do you think he got a signed photo like Kanye?

SouthallGirl · 15/12/2016 23:51

You are still missing the point. No one is any type of "phobe" if not in agreement with a prevailing view. To call someone a phobe is actually illiberal and aggressive.

As Tatchell says "I do not, for example, insist that people of faith approve of homosexuality", or scientists working in evolutionary medicine for example. But he does expect not to be discriminated against, which is absolutely correct.

claig · 15/12/2016 23:53

He {Farage] added: 'If the Queen asks me for tea I'll go, but I'm not expecting an invite.'

He'll probably get an invite soon because the Queen wants to know what Trump is thinking and no one else has got a clue apart from Farage and the members of the People's Army who bought him a pint.

OP posts:
Lweji · 15/12/2016 23:59

Those news were curious. It seemed more to me like Farage was trying it on with Trump. He said he didn't have a meeting schedule, he didn't expect an invitation and that he was meeting "friends" in Trump's team.

I can imagine what went on behind the scenes:
Oh, that annoying Brit is around again.
He's downstairs. What will we do?
Let's call him in and keep him smiling.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 00:01

"To call someone a phobe is actually illiberal and aggressive"

It isn't. It just acknowledges that they fear or dislike something. You might be an arachnophobic, or agoraphobic, or anything -phobic.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 00:05

Everyone knows what trump is thinking because he blurts out whatever comes into his head like a spoilt 4 year old child with a Twitter account. It's just that there's no consistency to it.

squishysquirmy · 16/12/2016 00:10

It is not illegal to be homophobic.
It is illegal to discriminate against someone for being homosexual.

People are free to dislike gay people.
I am also free to dislike people who hold those views.
Clear yet?

squishysquirmy · 16/12/2016 00:11

Farage is like a creepy obsessed fanboy around Trump. You can practically see his tongue hanging out. Embarrassing.

Kaija · 16/12/2016 00:12

And in turn, Trump's like a creepy obsessed fanboy around Putin.

Here's a nice statistic for you:

qz.com/862412/trumps-16-cabinet-level-picks-have-more-money-than-a-third-of-american-households-combined/

DeepanKrispanEven · 16/12/2016 00:23

If you do not nominally support the new president or want to give him a chance, then you are a hater of the Western world as far as I'm concerned.

Strange, I never noticed you supporting Obama, Southall. You hater of the Western world, you.

DeepanKrispanEven · 16/12/2016 00:33

Southall, contrary to your claim, no-one laughed about MMR. On the contrary, I expressed genuine horror at the likely effects of Trump's stated intention to stop children from receiving vaccinations and the fact that that would inevitably lead to child deaths and disability.

It's a well known fact that autism frequently starts manifesting itself in children at around the same age they usually have their MMR injections. It's inevitably therefore that sometimes they will coincide, and parents will see a connection in something that is purely coincidental. But the plain fact is that many reputable scientists tried long and hard to verify Wakefield's research and it just couldn't be done, because if was based on bad and totally unethical science.

DeepanKrispanEven · 16/12/2016 00:39

If you cannot identify a serious problem because it would breach PC rules, then you cannot begin to solve the problem.

But you could identify it perfectly easily if you wanted, Southall. If you're dying to have the freedom to say the N word, you could use precisely that phraseology. If you want to be racist, say so, you don't actually have to quote the words you want to use to make yourself clear. Equally, if you don't want to be racist, explain why.

DeepanKrispanEven · 16/12/2016 00:47

Today, liberal values in the UK ultimately preach tolerance of illiberal values and beliefs because they believe that all cultural values are equal and commendable.

Utter nonsense. You won't find liberals upholding the cultural values that lead to FGM, to pick just one example.

claig · 16/12/2016 08:01

Good Farage interview on Fox last night. He mentioned that he was debating with Juncker and the EU is going to try and grant visa free access to 50 million Ukrainians and Georgians. Fortunately, we are out of it.

"EU reaches deal to grant visa-free travel to 50 million people"

OP posts:
BertrandRussell · 16/12/2016 08:07

How do you think Trump would have reacted to winning the popular vote by 2.5 million and losing the election?

Lweji · 16/12/2016 08:12

So, you're worried about displacement of all those Ukrainians and Georgians, but think doing fuck all to help them in relation to Putin is the best? Let's be friends with Putin and let him walk over a neighboring country. (It didn't go well last time Europe did this, btw)
So hypocritical of you.
