The resolution 12 ad

The old Liberal Party liberal views are different to the term used nowadays.

Today, liberal values in the UK ultimately preach tolerance of illiberal values and beliefs because they believe that all cultural values are equal and commendable. And that is simply not true because all cultural practices are not of equal value.

Even Tatchell doesnt believe it anymore. He has said for example:

"I do not, for example, insist that people of faith approve of homosexuality, but I do expect them to not discriminate on the grounds of sexual orientation."

The expectation is correct. Whereas too many of the Borg mentality believe that if you dont hold that homosexuality is on the spectrum of normality, then you are homophobe, racist, bigot, etc. That is the intolerance of today's liberalism.

If liberals were so tolerant and good, why the uproar about DT?

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:27

"you dont hold that homosexuality is on the spectrum of normality, then you are homophobe, racist, bigot, etc."

Well yes that would make you a homophobe. (Not sure why racist was in there...) That's pretty much the definition of homophobe. Doesn't stop you holding those views though.

Lweji · 15/12/2016 23:28

If liberals were so tolerant and good, why the uproar about DT?

Because he's neither tolerant nor good.

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:29

I would agree South that different liberal values can sometimes conflict with each other, and the right balance has not always been achieved. Also us liberals frequently disagree with each other - quite the reverse of the borg mentality!
This quote from the link stood out to me:
Scientific knowledge is better than superstition
Completely, 100% agree with that statement.

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:30

"If liberals were so tolerant and good, why the uproar about DT?"

I know right. It's like those bastards moaning about Hitler in the thirties when he hadn't even done anything and yet calling themselves liberal. Should've just given him a chance.

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:30

You are confusing "tolerant" with shutting the fuck up and never objecting to anything, that's your problem.

Missswatch · 15/12/2016 23:31

Because he's neither tolerant nor good.

Can he be worse than any other president? Come on, liberal tolerance and all. He won by the very fair process you agree with :)

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:31

Almost like you want us to be quiet about DT because we don't agree with you!

SouthallGirl · 15/12/2016 23:32

Ontop - I dont yet know that he is a liar. I do believe he can improve life for blue collar workers esp., but he will have to move mountains and parlez with the big USA manufacturers to convince them to relocate at least some of their productions back to America.

Missswatch · 15/12/2016 23:32

Here we go. Another Hitler comparison. Change the record

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:33

"Can he be worse than any other president?"
Yup.
And it has always been OK to criticise democratically elected leaders.

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:33

"Can he be worse than any other president?"

The signs are pretty positive so far.

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:34

We do know that he is a liar South.
He even lies about things he said, when there is a clear record of him saying them. Repeatedly.

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:34

"Here we go. Another Hitler comparison. Change the record"

First one I've seen. What do you object to?

squishysquirmy · 15/12/2016 23:35

"Here we go. Another Hitler comparison. Change the record"

Oh, are we not allowed to say that? Is it not politically correct?

Kaija · 15/12/2016 23:35

"We do know that he is a liar South.
He even lies about things he said, when there is a clear record of him saying them. Repeatedly."

Yes. This is not hard to find out.

Ontopofthesunset · 15/12/2016 23:36

But you do know he is a liar because he is on record having lied. He lied about the unemployment rate. He lied about Obama's birth certificate. He lied when he said no one has more respect for women than he has - that is an obvious, if hyperbolic, lie. He has lied only recently about Carrier. And you can see he is lying about draining the swamp.

As you and claig are always saying RTFT and you will see lots more examples. The Late Show clip posted a few pages back showed him admitting many of his lies.

Lweji · 15/12/2016 23:36

Can he be worse than any other president?

Of course he can.

Come on, liberal tolerance and all.

What does tolerance have to do with expectations of Trump?
My expectations of him are based on what I have observed of him.

He won by the very fair process you agree with

I don't actually agree with electoral colleges.
I agree with democracy. I accept that the US Presidential election uses an electoral college. I don't think it's democratic, but it's what they have. I accept that Trump won the election with the system that is in place.
That is where tolerance comes in.
It doesn't make it a huge win or even an endorsement by the nation, because the actual majority of the nation's voters voted for the other candidate. That's an observation, not an opinion.

Ontopofthesunset · 15/12/2016 23:36

Cross posted with squishy there.

Silencing tactics. Rather than engaging in the debate. Again. And again.

claig · 15/12/2016 23:39

Bloody hell. He's done it again. Farage. He is flying the UK flag more than the Ambassadors.

"Nigel Farage meets Donald Trump for a third time amid speculation of new role advising on UK/US trade deal

Nigel Farage visited Donald Trump's New York headquarters on Thursday night raising further speculation that he could be offered a job by the President-elect."

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/15/nigel-farage-meets-donald-trump-third-time-amid-speculation/

Farage should be given the Legion D'Honneur, the Knight of the Garter, the Lordship of the Manor and the Freedom of the City of London for what he is doing for the UK. This is incredible stuff. Trump values a good man when he sees one.
