My point is - do I really have to spell it out

The distances this woman has to travel is the equivalent of perhaps going up to the north of Scotland. She might not have a friend she can leave her baby with for two or three days and perhaps have to do that two or three times.

Who knows on her childcare situation. Perhaps her salary would fund her childcare.

My point is I am likening it to me when I had my first baby. There was not a 'convenient' friend I could have left her with for days to go and seek help for an unplanned pregnancy
I'm not sure what you are unable to understand TBH.

Roussette · 10/12/2016 15:17

So the point is... there will be many women out there who don't necessarily have a friend they can leave a baby with for days. It's not that unusual

Roussette · 10/12/2016 15:18

What should women who have unplanned pregnancies do?"

Suck it up and not be so feckless next time I think is the answer. But obviously not my answer.

Lweji · 10/12/2016 15:22

Why would any woman need a friend to keep a child for a few days? FGS.

Any woman should either have access to abortion, or financial support to have the child.
And it seems this woman had neither. Sad Angry

Must be great to be a woman in that state.

SouthallGirl · 10/12/2016 15:24

"The distances this woman has to travel is the equivalent of perhaps going up to the north of Scotland. She might not have a friend she can leave her baby with for two or three days and perhaps have to do that two or three times

I understand completely, but Lweji and others don't want us to make any ASSUMPTONS about this Anna:

"Don't assume, because that makes an ASS of U and ME."

SouthallGirl · 10/12/2016 15:28

Suck it up and not be so feckless next time

It's not fecklessness, it's not appreciating consequences. And on top of that, the problem of living in a state where there is a 12 week rule.

Lweji · 10/12/2016 15:29

Nobody but you started making assumptions. We're just showing that they can be very wrong.
Sigh.

BertrandRussell · 10/12/2016 15:30

Southallgirl- what should women who have unplanned and unwanted pregnancies do?

Apart from working on a time machine, obviously.......

Roussette · 10/12/2016 15:32

You've made assumptions though southall.

Who'd live in Indiana, god only knows. Snake Pence is against broad sex educaton and for abstinence only sex education with no facility for referral for birth control. That's going back to the fifties AFAIC. There'll be a stigma for having a baby out of wedlock next.

Lweji · 10/12/2016 15:32

So, you agree it's a problem.
Do you think it will be a good thing if it's extended nationwide?
Because it could.

And then women in these positions would really be between a rock and a hard place.
A baby and no means to support him. It could mean keeping or taking any partner, even abusive ones. Or giving the baby for adoption. Or starving mother and children.
It sounds great.

Roussette · 10/12/2016 15:34

And on top of that, the problem of living in a state where there is a 12 week rule

Southall.
You said it!
All States will be like that under these two. There will be nowhere to go.

Yet according to you womens rights won't be jeopardised ho hum

Kaija · 10/12/2016 15:35

So here's that link again:

www.google.co.uk/amp/s/www.washingtonpost.com/amphtml/news/post-nation/wp/2016/12/07/empowered-by-trump-ohio-legislature-pass-heartbeat-bill-that-would-ban-most-abortions/?client=safari

"If Gov. John Kasich (R) signs the bill, it would pose a direct challenge to Supreme Court decisions that have found that women have a constitutional right to abortion until the point of viability, which is typically pegged around 24 weeks. Similar bills have been blocked by the courts. Because of this, even many antiabortion advocates have opposed such measures.

But some Ohio Republicans said they were empowered to support the bill because of President-elect Donald Trump’s pledge to appoint Supreme Court justices who would overturnn Roe v. Wadede^, the 1973 high court decision that legalized abortion nationally."

Southall in light of this do you really believe women's rights are not threatened by the Trump administration?

Kaija · 10/12/2016 15:37

To clarify, this bill would

"prohibit abortion as soon as a fetal heartbeat can be detected — at around six weeks, before many women realize they are pregnant"

Roussette · 10/12/2016 15:40

""I am all for women not having to have abortions, but people don't realize that most women don't want abortions like they want a nice shirt or a warm dinner. They want it like an animal wants to escape a trap"

That's a quote from someone at PlannedParenthood

SouthallGirl · 10/12/2016 15:50

All States will be like that under these two

Trump did say that he wants to push the decision back to each State. He's clearly not wanting to make a federal law. Apart from a few states, I doubt that any would implement a termination ban before 20 weeks because it's not practicable.

Roussette · 10/12/2016 16:00

Here

Trump took 5 different stances on abortion in 3 days. So who knows.

And

This

Empowered by Trump victory Ohio legislature passes 'heartbeat bill' that bans most abortions.

Who knows what States will follow suit.

BertrandRussell · 10/12/2016 16:01

The only conclusion to be drawn from your silence, southallgirl, is that you aren't quite callous enough (or, perhaps, brave enough) to say out loud that women should be forced to proceed with pregnancies and give birth to babies they do not want.

The only other possibility is that you are stupid enough to think that limiting access to abortion will stop women having unplanned pregnancies.nand I don't believe that to be the case.

SouthallGirl · 10/12/2016 16:08

Trump took 5 different stances on abortion in 3 days. So who knows

Exactly, and that's why few states will impose a 12 week rule imo.

Roussette · 10/12/2016 16:13

One already has southall . More will follow.

It says something when clinics were inundated after the election on consultations for the coil and the implant. Many many women in the US don't trust Trump to fight their corner understatement

“It’s a ‘fuck you’ to this president to get birth control that will outlast him,” says Margot Judge, a 25-year-old from New York who is considering getting an IUD this week.

DeepanKrispanEven · 10/12/2016 16:19

So do you believe that a president and vice president who want more states to impose restrictions on abortions are supporting the rights of women, Southall?

SouthallGirl · 10/12/2016 16:27

Trump said he does not like late terminations past 20 weeks if there are no medical reasons, no rape, no incest.

Who disagrees with this?

Roussette · 10/12/2016 16:38

Terminations after 20 weeks are for severe fetal abnormalities or because of the health of the mother (lupus, renal disease, heart disease) Trump may not like them but it is not commonplace and I believe accounts for a tiny proportion. It's what Pence and him want prior to 20 weeks that is worrying. Taking away choice.

Lweji · 10/12/2016 16:42

Exactly, and that's why few states will impose a 12 week rule imo.

Wouldn't you say if even one more does that women's rights have gone worse?

And 12 weeks is different from 20. You're changing the goal posts.

BertrandRussell · 10/12/2016 16:44

Southallgirl-why won't you answer my question?

Roussette · 10/12/2016 16:44

This from an obstetrician...

"Why do some women end up with these procedures later on in their pregnancy? Sometimes it can take weeks or even longer to fully understand what is going on with the fetus. Some patients might think they can make it to term and then at 34 weeks cave and ask to be delivered because they just can’t bear one more person asking them about their baby. Do they just smile and walk away or say, “Well, actually, my baby has no brain and will die at birth?” Some women go to term and others can’t. To judge these women for requesting an early delivery is cruel on so many levels"

Yeah but let's stop late abortions because the Donald doesn't like them...politicians aren't doctors.
