Sounds like a bizarre revolution to me.

claig · 25/11/2016 09:33

If Orwell was alive today, he would have joined the Deplorables in singing his lungs out to the Deplorables anthem for Donald J Trump who was kicking the elites up one side and down the other as the Deplorables laughed at their "teams" of spinners lying on TV.

Orwell was with the people, he would have been with Trump 100%

If anyone is reading this, who is unconvinced - Don't take my word for it, or Claig's. Read some of Orwell's novels, and his essays.
and just as an aside: the minitruth was not staffed by "teams straight outta Oxbridge who wear spads" They were the Outer party (middle class)and wore blue jumpsuits. it's almost like you haven't actually read the book you're quoting, Claig....

squishysquirmy · 25/11/2016 09:38

Hell, even a quick glance at a wikipedia page will make you better informed than Claig.

claig · 25/11/2016 09:39

Orwell, Victor Hugo, Trump and the people!

We won, folks. We did it. They are stunned and their teams are still spinning like crazy on the news channels. They are crying "foul", they are saying the Deplorables were conned by "fake news" and should have listened only to the Ministry of Truth who warned of Punishment Budgets, Plagues and Pestilence if the people didn't do as they were told.

But Trump and the Trump fans laughed in their face and went to the polling booths to show them that they were not done. Orwell got it wrong, the people won in the year of 2016, a year that will live on in history till the end of time.

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which."

Man would be the corrupt, deceitful "elites" in this analogy. Trump is a big fat pig.

squishysquirmy · 25/11/2016 09:42

Have you read any of his books yourself Claig?

claig · 25/11/2016 09:42

'They were the Outer party (middle class)and wore blue jumpsuits'

They sound like the Young Tories. All the ones they show us on TV seem to be straight outta Oxbridge, clueless, chinless and shameless.

OP posts:
squishysquirmy · 25/11/2016 09:44

So that's another no, then.

claig · 25/11/2016 09:44

'Have you read any of his books yourself Claig?'

To be honest, no. I have been too busy reading Trump's 100 Day Plan, but I will get round to Orwell eventually.

OP posts:
takesnoprisoners · 25/11/2016 09:45

"Trump still wealthy, Farage still wealthy, the people not so much. Sounds a biz"

So, only people with no wealth get to govern? Isn't that bizzare?

claig · 25/11/2016 09:45

"The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again: but already it was impossible to say which was which."

Is this a description of Blair's cabinet or something that Orwell wrote?

OP posts:
Kaija · 25/11/2016 09:48

Literature is not your strong point, Claig. I would stick to the straight propaganda.

takesnoprisoners · 25/11/2016 09:48

"They sound like the Young Tories. All the ones they show us on TV seem to be straight outta Oxbridge, clueless, chinless and shameless."
Claig, Grin so true.

squishysquirmy · 25/11/2016 09:50

"To be honest, no. I have been too busy reading Trump's 100 Day Plan, but I will get round to Orwell eventually."
But you still know more about what Orwell would think of Trump than those who have actually read a lot of his work? Post-Truth indeed.

claig · 25/11/2016 09:54

'But you still know more about what Orwell would think of Trump than those who have actually read a lot of his work? '

Yes because it is all about judgement and common sense.

George Osborne probably read Orwell but he probably didn't have a clue what it meant. How else can you explain his predictions of a "Punishment Budget" which the people read about and all knew was Orwellian spin and baloney to please the elites and the bankers.

Orwell would have laughed along with all of us at the desperation of the "teams" and their spin.

OP posts:
squishysquirmy · 25/11/2016 09:57

You'd hate him, Claig. He was a left wing journalist who studied at Eton.
[waits excitedly for Claig to find out the name Orwell was born with...)

takesnoprisoners · 25/11/2016 10:00

"Spinflight, if Orwell was alive today, I have no doubt that he would rip that little essay of yours to shreds, and you would be slurring him as "the liberal elite" He became quite disillusioned with popular uprisings, and was quite scathing of the blind trust people like you put in populist, nationalist, leaders."

Really? You need a dead man to come and shred to pieces a well laid out post? You can't do it yourself with your thoughts? Or is that an indication of the liberals today? The liberals who live in past glory and has been ideas? Why is it that they are always angry and never are able to post an article without resorting to emotional melt downs and insults?

claig · 25/11/2016 10:02

Eric Blair. Orwell was great and so is Jacob Rees-Mogg, from Eton.

It doesn't matter where you went and how rich you are, al that matters is what is in your heart. Are you with the people or with the elites?

Trump is a billionaire who is with the people and that is why Trump fans like him and wait for his latest tweets that mock the elites. Orwell would have loved twitter and Trump as they take down the elite's Ministry of Truth and all their "teams" in their blue jump suits and their Hillary pant suits.

It's a bizarre revolution if the farages of this world remain wealthy and the people who propel them to power remain poor. When the people in Sunderland reap the rewards from Brexit then you can declare peoples revolution, same with Trump. Can't say I am holding my breath.

fourmummy · 25/11/2016 10:19

Orwell was writing about relativism. The reason why relativism is a perpetual problem for humans is because there is no mechanism to determine absolute truth. The reason for that is because we can't remove the human angle, or, human interpretation, from our perception of the world, to reach a point of universal 'truth' that applies to everyone at all times. In other words, our world needs humans to interpret it.

So, how do we live? Well, societies live according to their truth - not a problem until one invades another or tries to instantiate their truth in place of the previous, and this may come about through several reasons such as politicians' greed, or mistake. Globalisation created a perpetual tussle between 'truths' (ways of life). More importantly, this was created because of politicians' greed (can anyone here even say why there's a war in Syria?).

Trump speaks his truth and others speak theirs. There is not a single truth out there that will unite everyone around the globe. The only way to get everyone to agree with one thing is to force them through totalitarianism. Otherwise, it's through smaller nation states or communities, which follow their own way. With Trump and Brexit, we are seeing a shift away from the multi to the uni - from the multi-truth, post-truth, fact-destabilisation era of multiculturalism, which does not work, to a unitary, singular, 'what's right for us' society, which does. We may settle on several multiple small-ish community pockets united by an overarching 'truth' that everyone subscribes to - it depends how this pans out.

It doesn't matter if Trump speaks the truth or not because what he say can never possibly apply to everyone. What he says is right for a specific society at a specific time, which will enable its people to live the best life that they can under a certain set of rules, while others, in other parts of the world, or in other communities, live by their rules. As long as our politicians don't interfere in their rules and they don't interfere in ours, there should be no problem. The important point is that the rules are constructed by a group of people to suit them - they are not universal. One of the first things Trump said was 'Stay out of Syria' (paraphrased) and that alone is enough to show that he is heading in the right direction.

"They are stunned and their teams are still spinning like crazy on the news channels. "

Claig, I have to hand it to you. Today, the Guardian, Telegraph are flogging John Major who they gleefully quote as saying;

"I find that very difficult to accept. The tyranny of the majority has never applied in a democracy and it should not apply in this particular democracy."

'Desperate' is an understatement as to what is happening in the media. The majority are now the tyrannicals. John Major, former Prime Minister.

And STILL the ignorant nod in agreement.........

(apols if this multi posts.....bitty connection)

birdsdestiny, people will never all have the same money. We will hopefully never live in a communist society where the elite will regulate all our wages and stipulate the maximum that we are allowed to earn. Farage is richer than us. Who cares a long as he carries out our wishes and works for us?

The people of Sunderland voted by an overwhelming majority to leave the EU against the advice of all the elites, George Osborne, Eton Cameron, the Oxbridge teams, the BBC, Channel 4 News, the Ministry of Truth, the IMF, the Bank of England, the OECD, Donald Tusk of the FU who warned that it would be "the end of Western Civilization", world bleeders apart from Trump who stood with the British people.

All of the great and the bad were ranged against the people of Sunderland and they still refused to bow their heads and accept that voting the way they wanted to would mean an immediate Punishment Budget from the servants of the elites. The people of Sunderland called their bluff and helped free us all from the cronies. It was a revolution and it shook the world. Elites were dumbfounded, their "teams" had failed in their spin, their threats fell on deaf ears.

Then the elites gathered all their worldwide forces to stop it happening again in America with one Donald J Trump who was tearing up their politically correct dictats on live TV at Trump rallies in front of thousands. The elites were gobsmacked at the audacity of the man. Oxbridge teams were activated and told to do their damndest to stop Trump at all costs or the barons' castles would be breached by the people, the Deplorables who were openly singing Victor Hugo inspired revolutionary songs as they revelled at Trump rallies on nothing stronger than ginger beer and Trump's wisecracks. The world bleeders panicked, they lectured the people that Trump was "unfit" because the Ministry said so. But Trump was a force of nature, he took them down and took them out, it was a complete and utter rout.

We will never all earn the same money, but at least we will all be free - free of the elites, their scams, spin, Punishment Budget threats and lies. And that is a great way to live.

2016, the year that free people stood up to the bullying of the elites who tried to hold us down.

Stock markets are booming, people are beaming, elites are screaming.

Trump 2016

"I find that very difficult to accept. The tyranny of the majority has never applied in a democracy and it should not apply in this particular democracy."

How desperate they are. all their servants and Sirs are paraded before us on TV. Soon they will have to get Blair on TV to help them. The people will not be put back in their box.

"Sussex will not be druv"

"You ain't no public servant, bruv"

I now have a vivid mental image of Claig's voice intoning from a telescreen.
