Just read an article saying that Italy has not just one Trump but two - Salvini and Grillo. How realistic is it for Salvini to win power? Is the Norther League still in favour of independence for Northern Italy or have they dropped that?

Donald Trump signifies he will end US support for Syrian rebels despite their pleas to him for help

"President-elect appears to reiterate his position that an alliance with Syrian and Russian governments to defeat Isis is his preferred way forward in the Syrian conflict "

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/us-president-elect-donald-trump-support-assad-putin-syria-remove-rebel-backing-a7413346.html

Jeremy Corbyn's brother, the esteemed climate change sceptic, Dr Piers Corbyn, congratulated Trump on his victory and wrote the following

Whatever you may have heard or feel about Donald Trump his election is an amazing revolution and vote of no-confidence against the corrupt self-serving political establishment bubble, mainstream media and opinion manipulators in the USA and the world. The result will lead to tremendous changes which will defy and out-date the norms of today’s tired and failing elites and methods.

This election is strangely reminiscent of my brother, Jeremy Corbyn’s, epic victories in Labour – on many different policies but nevertheless against the establishment bubble. Incidentally I predicted the victories for Brexit, Trump and my brother (both times) months ahead and won a bet with William Hill on Trump.

“The political implications of Trump’s election are tectonic and world-wide. There are TWO main changes coming:-

  1. FAIR TRADE NOT the “FREE TRADE” of corporate-plunder favouring bad Trade Deals and rules, and limiting casino banking. We will see the end of TPP, TTIP, EUETS etc and replacement by fairer agreements for Trade and regulating the role of banks (known as ‘Glass-Steigal’ approaches eg).
  1. AN END TO THE DELUSION OF MAN-MADE CLIMATE CHANGE AND DATA-FRAUD and the advance of CLEXIT (Climate-Agreements-EXIT) world-wide.
... AS with BREXIT none of the crazy establishment scare stories about a Trump victory will come true. I am sure President Trump – who thinks outside the box as a businessman rather than a politician -will be much easier and more flexible to deal with than the biased media have led us to believe especially for politicians who think positive about ways forward.”

weatheraction.wordpress.com/2016/11/11/piers-corbyn-on-donald-trumps-win/

He spelt Glass-Steagall wrong, but hey, who cares, when he got the rest right.

Some wits have suggested that Trump may put teh proverbial cat among the EU climate change mandarins' pigeons by giving Dr Piers Corbyn a senior role on climate policy, if Sarah Palin of "Drill, baby, drill" fame doesn't get it first.

Amazing times.

Renzi, of course, publicly went out on a limb and hoped that Hillary would win, as did the rest of the European clones who make up the political class, though some of ours threw in a few insults to Donald J Trump for good measure and doubtless to succour favour with some billionaire lobbyists and bankers.

Incredible times and Farage is in New York right now, cock-a-hoop, being wined and dined and asked for his advice on everything from climate change and Juncker to Merkel and the 2.30 at Kempton.

Farage, cigar in mouth, a pint in each hand, is telling the world leader's entourage what the best way forward is and the inside baseball on Brussels and the EU.

You couldn't make it up, unlike the "career politicians" always do.

OP posts:
claig · 12/11/2016 22:23

Trump defeated the entire world Establishment and all their cardboard cutout politcians whose mouths move and say what they are told to when their strings are pulled.

How could it possibly happen? The dinners in Brussels, the chefs, the chauffeurs, the ministers, the lecturing of the public at press conferences, the summits, the dumb nits, everything, everything defeated by Donald J Trump and the Deplorables.

They'll have to make a movie called

"Mr Trump and the Deplorables went to Washington"

As Spiked magazine says, it shows that the entire world establishment were "paper tigers"

"Revenge of the deplorables

Our US correspondent on Trump and the death of the establishment.
...
What’s crystal clear now is that the supposedly mighty US and Western establishments are paper tigers. They have become lazy and arrogant, and they are out of touch with the mass of people; they have lost all sense of purpose. Our political elites can’t even convince people that they have more to offer than a buffoon and two-bit conman with back-of-the-envelope policies. "

www.spiked-online.com/newsite/article/revenge-of-the-deplorables-donald-trump-president/18955#.WCeUIiRgRzI

How on earth can they hold press conferences and lecture us any more, use the time-tested, trained hand gestures and Blairite thumb manoeuvres any more, stand there with a straight face when the whole world knows they are puppets and paper tigers and that we the people have Donald J Trump on our side and he is, along with us, laughing at the whole lot of them?

claig Salvini is a nasty piece of work. The Northern League still have a strong following in their northern heartlands but unlikely they would win big nationwide. Rather than pushing for separation they have reinvented themselves - I never hear them talk about anything other than immigration. And as well as in a "we want less" populist way they also make it clear they believe in a "they are less"way. The center and the south have long memories - it wasn't long ago that this hate and venom was being directed at them by the Lega. So as long as there is 5 then I can't see the majority of the populist vote going to the Lega. As much as I want the EU to continue in some form and would prefer Renzi I would still live in an Italy outside the EU and run by 5. If the Lega ever get in then you won't see me and my family for dust. And I don't mean that in a throw my toys out way. I have lived here under Berlusconi and tecnocrats who I disagreed with. I believe in a democratic vote and have backed the losers in most votes I have cast Smile so would live with it again. Including under Grillo. Hell I would even live in Italy under Trump and I am no fan to say the least. But Salvini would mean Italy had chosen a truly dark path and not one I would want to witness.

claig · 12/11/2016 22:37

And it all happened, the entire elite and all their walking, talking puppet politicians were defeated because they tried to take our freedoms, they tried to take our free speech, they tried to impose "political correctness" on the people.

They used their "best and brightest", their teenage whizzkids and, their "nudge units" to bully the people and tell them what to do. Have they never heard of the famous Lewes phrase

"Sussex will not be druv"

"Italy's prime minister could be next victim of populist backlash as Trump victory emboldens opponents
...
"The Northern League said Mr Trump’s surprise win was “a victory for the people” against the establishment, the intellectual elite, the mainstream media and political correctness."

Thanks, Bananagio. I don't know much about the Northern League. I remember Bossi many years ago, but I don't know what happened to him.

OP posts:
Bananagio · 12/11/2016 23:03

claig Bossi stepped down mired in allegations of appropriation of party funds amongst other things. Think he may still be president though? Another one who gained a lot of support by positioning himself as anti-corruption following mani pulite in the early 90's. He was convicted of some form of corruption not long after as well IIRC.

Shiningexample · 12/11/2016 23:06

And the nepotism of having half his family in official posts
all seems a bit primitive and tribal to me
what is this, the mafia??
cant trust people unless they're family Hmm

claig · 12/11/2016 23:13

Thanks, Bananagio. Corruption seems to go hand in hand with quite a few of the political class.

OP posts:
claig · 12/11/2016 23:23

'And the nepotism of having half his family in official posts'

Trump hasn't announced any official posts and his family won't be doing them because they are mainly business people, not "career politicians". Eric Trump is disgusted by a lot of the political class he had to meet along the way, but I think that Donald Trump Jr will be the next President of the United States after The Donald, because Don Jr is really good and has caught the political bug while on the campaign trail helping his father.

So even when The Donald stands down, the people will still have a champion to counter the political correctness of the elite. The elite won't be back in charge for many years to come.

In another parallel to Berlusconi, I think there will be some form of Trump TV coming with all the favourites - the Stump for Trump Sisters, Donald Jr and lots of non-politically correct pundits and commentators and of course, Farage, and in eight years time, Donald Jr will be the next President.

So the world can sleep safely. Trump beat the elites and they won't be back any time soon.

He's done it again. Farage.

Despised by the entire Britsish Establishment, detested by every one of the political class, disliked by even some of the politically correct UKIP hierarchy, loved only by the famous People's Army.

He is in the thick of it.

"Nigel Farage has become the first British politician to meet Donald Trump since election

Nigel Farage has become the first British politician to meet Donald Trump after discussing "freedom and winning" with him in New York."

Farage hasn't wasted any time in taking to twitter to inform the world of the historic meeting of Britain's most in demand politician, Farage, with the new world elite and the people's President, slayer of the elite dragon, Donald J Trump

"Nigel Farage ‏@Nigel_Farage 12m12 minutes ago

It was a great honour to spend time with @realDonaldTrump. He was relaxed and full of good ideas. I'm confident he will be a good President."

and he informs the entire UK (and the Estblishment) that Trump is partial to the following idea, no doubt suggested to him by Nigel the Great of the County of Kent, in Old Blighty.

Lord God Almighty, how the world has changed, how the people laugh as the Deplorables won.

Nigel Farage ‏@Nigel_Farage 6m6 minutes ago

Especially pleased at @realDonaldTrump's very positive reaction to idea that Sir Winston Churchill's bust should be put back in Oval Office.

So TV channel and reality show confirmed.

This is smart, very smart.

It shows openness and will make it very difficult for his opponents to oppose with the usual backroom deals and shady tactics. Also why wait to read something in the papers when you can watch it happening live?

claig · 13/11/2016 00:40

'So TV channel and reality show confirmed.'

Wow. It is brilliant. It cements Trump's position and opponents can be hammered on it and it will pave the way for Donald Jr to take over in 8 years' time.

It means that Trump is here to stay, he means business and all the pompous politically correct political classes won't be back for at least 16 years.

OP posts:
Spinflight · 13/11/2016 00:47

Simple fact is he has a mandate and by far the biggest threat to his plans comes from the house.

Now those reps, and an awful lot of them didn't and won't back Trump were probably planning on showing Trump that the party was stronger than one man.

They won't however do it on TV. You need shadowy corners to get someone in the back with a stilletto :D

Chris1234567890 · 13/11/2016 01:24

Bananagio I have a tendancy to over simplify. A lot. But ive enjoyed reading your insights and appreciate the complexities are far wider and far reaching than we'd ever get a handle on here in the UK. Thank you. I certainly didnt intend to put Berlusconi up as an anti-eu poster boy, but simply to say that he and indeed Italian politics today, have to be viewed on the EU stage. The comparisons to Trump indeed media wide today too, still miss what I feel is a critical element. The EU. Trump in comparison is dancing on his own stage.

I also believe their motivations are different. Trump, for possibly the first time in his life, can afford to be principled. Hes 70. He has absolutely nothing to lose. (Im sure he will have secured his wealth before embarking on this perilous voyage, hes not a stupid man) The election campaign was indeed gameplay, thats all, he plays to win. But he has now won. He has the top job.

I think we will indeed see a different Trump, and I think his supporters are right to have belief in what he may achieve. There would have been no point whatsoever, sending the Dalai Lama into the foxes den.

To fix Americas issues, you need an American solution. And Trump, in so many spheres, is it.

Chris1234567890 · 13/11/2016 01:33

I dont often say this, but Fuck me. Both the Farage tweets and the tv channel. You have to be impressed.

Chris1234567890 · 13/11/2016 01:39

Ive reported my last post. Grin Apols for the f word. But really, the guys a genius using Farage as probably the most trusted source for info (if only because its off establishment message) and the tv channel. Didnt see that one coming. Game on!

Spinflight · 13/11/2016 01:46

Farage has a very high profile in the states. The right wing media laud him as the saviour of the western world, sometimes literally. Certainly on TV over there far more often than over here.

On another note I'm hearing that Kennedy is going to retire from the Supreme court too.

Lots of permutations but Trump could even end up with a 7-2 conservative split as one of the sitting judges ( who is even older) has been somewhat undiplomatic about him.

Chris1234567890 · 13/11/2016 01:51

Spin, steady..... I was enjoying it up till then. We nearly managed to retire Farage off.....until those meddling remainers refused to let the issue lie. Hope Nigel doesnt get sucked in too much, Im sure all the glitz and glitter is tempting though! What a week and it just keeps going!

Spinflight · 13/11/2016 02:09

twitter.com/Nigel_Farage/status/797584449047265281

Lots of glitz...

claig · 13/11/2016 07:47

The fact that the world has been shown the picture of the people's President, Trump, and the former leader of the People's Army, Farage, (the first British politician invited by Trump and his team to meet Trump) in among the glitter and the gold, laughing their heads off and Trump doing a thumbs-up sign, is a message to the entire world and the UK Establishment and EU Brussels Establishment, Merkel, Juncker etc that Trump and his team consider Farage a top guy and Brexit a good thing.

For a good laugh, here is a Rod Liddle article on Trump's victory

"The deplorables are rather wonderful people, aren’t they? Both here and in the United States. The people’s revolution continues apace, defying the odds each time, defying the pollsters, defying the elite. I cannot tell you how pleasurable it was to scamper downstairs on Wednesday morning to check out the reaction on the Guardian’s website. It kept me cackling for hours. The previous morning the paper had concluded its fatuous leader column with the words: ‘Americans should summon a special level of seriousness and display a profound responsibility when they go to the polls.’ That alone had made me yearn for a Trump victory — the arrogant, chastising tone which liberals, especially European liberals, always adopt when dealing with commoners and plebs, the people who do not buy into their palpably failing and idiotic worldview.

That unintentionally hilarious sentence about a ‘special level of seriousness’ followed paragraph after paragraph of hyperbolic stupidity: Trump is a fascist racist who will devour your first-born and lead us all to Armageddon. This is the voice of that horrible tranche of self-righteous and authoritarian leftist opinion which petitioned to have Trump banned from entering the UK because he said things with which these imbeciles disagreed.

Climate change -this is the only thing that makes me uneasy. Even if we get past the lies, clean living and alternative forms of energy remain enormously important. Sometimes, forcing companies to invest in these may be the only way to get behaviour change. I hope that the pendulum doesn't swing back too far the other way on these things. I look forward to majority-electric cars!
