I wasn't aware George Bush was on the ticket on the eighth.

Lweji · 30/10/2016 08:31

why exaggerate to 22 million - thanks for the heads up I needn't wait for the substantiation.

A quick google that shows the 22 million figure, though:
www.google.pt/amp/www.newsweek.com/2016/09/23/george-w-bush-white-house-lost-22-million-emails-497373.html

Lweji · 30/10/2016 08:36

The mention of Bush here is that the private server issue goes back a long way,and Hillary claims she was given the idea that it was ok by previous secretaries, who did seem to not use the official channels then too.

W is not on the ticket here, but it does show that Hillary is not unique in these practices and prosecuting may have a further reach in the end.

On the subject of dealings with dodgy foreign governments, anything on Russia?
Or all the countries Trump actually has business deals with, not just foundation donations?

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:41

The questions that swirl around the Abedin/security/clinton foundation/state department role/Saudi Arabia are very worrying.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:44

Oh my god I just read that Abedin's mother is an outspoken advocate of FGM and Clinton visited her three years ago and said her daughter had a very 'sensitive' role.

Lweji · 30/10/2016 08:45

So are those, perhaps more, in relation to Russia.
Who was it again that called for foreign hacking?

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:45

This kind of cultural relativism speaks to four mummy's post yesterday about the enabling of Islamist extremism in foreign policy.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:49

So back in 96 as First Lady she hosted a fundraiser for a man who later served a terror sentence. Clinton that is. What was the guys name hang on.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2016 08:50

So getting back to Russia and Trumps love in with them ... .Is that not an issue, or do is your position that together they will wipe out Islamist extremeism WW?

OP posts:
Lweji · 30/10/2016 08:51

OMG, my sister believes in homeopathy and a cousin sells herself as a medium.
I may have visited them a few times.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:51

Abdurrahman Alamoudi and yes he's still in jail. It was actually for an organisation he founded, and she and Bill hosted. Unbelievably ignorant or badly advised?

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:54

Hi kitten am just reading about the current scandal right now. With Russia, Clinton is more of a hawk and more of a danger. Current policy trajectory is heading toward a Cuban crisis style stand off.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:56

I've just read that Abedin is acknowledged by Clinton as the source of much of her understanding of Islam.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 08:59

Until 2008 Huma was an assistant editor at the Journal of Muslim Minority Affairs which published fundamentalist articles eg on single mums and gay people.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 30/10/2016 09:01

My fear with Trump is that he's going to give a green light to Russia invading more countries. It seems clear that Russia are meddling i need the election and that is deeply troubling. If Putin is in favour of one particular candidate to the point of interference that is a worrying sign.

My main news reading today though is on the earthquake in Italy.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 09:01

It was apparently a Saudi funded journal that published radical anti feminist views. Defence is that 'it was just a name on the masthead'.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 09:05

I think the US has invaded more countries than Russia so far this century. In Ukraine that followed a western sponsored coup. I'm concerned about what the US will do next. I don't understand why leftists who have always complained about US military colonialism are now in favour because of Clinton.

fourmummy · 30/10/2016 10:07

Abedin was an active contributor to that Saudi magazine. Look at what she wrote. Dear, oh dear, oh dear:

Headlined “Women’s Rights Are Islamic Rights,” a 1996 article argues that single moms, working moms and gay couples with children should not be recognized as families. It also states that more revealing dress ushered in by women’s liberation “directly translates into unwanted results of sexual promiscuity and irresponsibility and indirectly promote violence against women.” In other words, sexually liberated women are just asking to be raped"

Lweji · 30/10/2016 11:32

I think the US has invaded more countries than Russia so far this century.
The cold war wasn't about invading countries. It still isnt. The role Russia is playing in Syria is beyond invading/not invading, for example.

And this century includes 8 years of Bush.

I don't understand why leftists who have always complained about US military colonialism are now in favour because of Clinton.
I don't think anyone is in favour, as such, just don't think that what happened in the last 8 years is that bad. For a Democrat, Hillary is a hawk, but still not as much as the average Republican. Not as much as Trump, who's spoken about bombing the hell out of ISIS, the possibility of using nuclear weapons, and has said he'd invade to profit from oil (!).

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 11:34

The US has invaded more countries than Russia.

The US is the aggressor in Syria.

OlennasWimple · 30/10/2016 11:40

I think the US understanding of Islamism is a few years behind the UK's - it's not that long ago that the UK government were getting advice on issues like managing Ramadan fasting and changing facilities in schools from outfits like the MCB...

Lweji · 30/10/2016 11:48

The Snopes article on the magazine and Abedin.
www.snopes.com/2016/08/22/huma-abedin-muslim-journal/

It seems misleading to say she wrote those articles.
She was listed as assistant editor, reportedly in name only, as it's a family owned publication.
It seems, indeed, at her mother has very conservative ideas, but that is probably true of most Muslim women of her generation.

Now, there was a recent photo of Ivanka and Putin's most recent girlfriend, whatever that means.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 11:48

It's no excuse oleanna. It's a hot issue. Clinton should not be indulging relativism, would you agree.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 11:51

Personally I find relativism and excuses for it the last resort of an unprincipled, western-hating, enlightenment-hating knee jerk leftist philosophy that cannot deal with intersectional rights.

WinchesterWoman · 30/10/2016 11:52

Oleanna I don't mean to be rude that's my view in general. For all I know you may share it.
