claig · 16/10/2016 13:57

Oct 20th 2 am UK time.

Last chance for the Establishment to stop the Trump surge in the polls.
World leaders will be watching, Establishments will be tuning in on the edge of their seats in trepidation.

People will be laughing, diving into the popcorn and knocking back the alcohol.

Round 3. Rock'n'roll.

As far as I am aware, Trump Tower is 6 floors.

Sure. Grin

But that would be in keeping with a secret government meeting on a secret non-existent floor.

(sadly, Trump tower has 58 floors)

I'm interested in Trump interests on the 45th floor, though, that might pose a conflict of interest if he becomes President.

Lweji · 18/10/2016 21:57

Absolutely, he is far more popular than Hillary.

No, he's not. He's far more unpopular.

His tweets, OTOH, are popular.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:04

There's multiple Trump Towers in US Cities, the one in Chicago, for instance is 98 floors.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:07

That should read there are various Trump Towers in the US.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:14

This is good. Will Self on Trump as a giant fatberg.

Claig, I think you will actually quite like this, notwithstanding your tireless promotion of the inevitable shit explosion as a desirable end point.

You can't dismiss the polls by reference to Brexit, primarily because this is an electoral college system, and Trump is struggling in the areas where he ought to do well. It doesn't help Trump if he gets thousands of people to his rallies if most of those people either live in a small state with few votes, or live in a state which would support him anyway.

Breadandwine · 18/10/2016 22:16

Great Presidential Apprentice Challenge, Lweji! Grin

claig · 18/10/2016 22:16

I like Will Self. He is very clever and funny even though he was anti Brexit and pro Establishment on that one. I like him because he has the courage to say things others won't say, even though he gets his pro Establishment stuff wrong.

'and Trump is struggling in the areas where he ought to do well.'

It probably comes down to Florida, Ohio, Pennsylvania and North Carolina. Don't believe the Establishment media, they are all bricking it and lying like there is no tomorrow for the lot of them. Remember what the Stump for Trump Sisters said about the media

"they tell lies, they fan flies and they are full of alibis"

I think the "alibis" part was a euphemism as the Stump for Trump Sisters always retain their decorum.

A poor article by Will Self. It is the type of scatolohgica invective that you would expect to hear from BBC Establishment promoted Oxbridge comedians. Very poor for him. He is usually better than that. The Establishment has probably put the screws on him or something.

OP posts:
Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:43

Shame. Is it just the scatology you object to? Seems like a wholly appropriate metaphor to me, unfortunately.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:45

Your review is a rather nonsensical though. He is by no means uncritical of the establishment in that article. That's why I (genuinely) thought you would like it.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:46

Which makes me wonder once more how committed an anti-establishmentarian you really are.

claig · 18/10/2016 22:50

'He is by no means uncritical of the establishment in that article'

I didn't read it because there was so much about toilets and flushing etc that I thought I was watching a BBC2 comedian and I skipped the rest because that is just lazy BBC type writing, which is probably why it is in the New Statesman.

I will struggle to read it again to look for the good antiestablisment bits, if there are any among the toilet stuff etc

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 22:52

Ha, good article Kaija.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 22:58

Haha, that's the way: write the review first, read (or not) after.

claig · 18/10/2016 23:07

I have read it. It is a very poor article. He plays with language and tries to show off with his metaphors, but it is the type of thing a teenage whizzkid from Oxbridge working for the Orifice of Tony Blair might find amusing.

He overeggs the pudding, overdoes the metaphors

"It is often said of the Titanic that it was the world’s biggest metaphor. The Titanic set sail from Southampton, its intended destination New York. The fatberg that is called Donald Trump is a very big metaphor indeed"

All his verbal play and pompous language "the vast carceral latifundia" just emphasise the emptiness and banality of what he has to say.

He clearly likes toilet humour and although he says this about Farage

"a wave of shitty resentment"

that really sums up his article.

I prefer the Stump for Trump Sisters "don't get it twisted". I don't like the elites showing off and using condescending and pompous language to make no point at all.

Kaija · 18/10/2016 23:23

Strange, he speaks very highly of you.

It's a great article. A perfect assessment of where we find ourselves at this moment.

claig · 18/10/2016 23:31

'Strange, he speaks very highly of you.'

And so he should. I like him, when he is on Radio 4 with Points of View, it is fascinating. He is clever, he is a thinker, he thinks outside the box and he is funny. But this was poor, this was cliched, lazy toilet humour with no real insight imparted. It was empty, cliched BBC2 adolescent male teenage whizzkid humour, the type of thing the BBC and Channel 4 are full of. I prefer the Stump for Trump Sisters. They are a riot.

'A perfect assessment of where we find ourselves at this moment.'

It is a perfect assessment of where an anti Brexit Establishment suporting metropolitan elite Remoaner like him is at - up shit's creek without a paddle.

OP posts:
Kaija · 18/10/2016 23:51

I think you should stick to writing reviews of things you haven't read. You're actually better at it.

ToujeoQueen · 18/10/2016 23:52

Kaja what I meant was I read it and got the gist of it. I'm agreeing with you Smile

claig · 18/10/2016 23:52

Here are the Stump for Trump Sisters putting the lying "mainstream media" right as only they can. "Don't get it twisted".

Kaija · 18/10/2016 23:54

Yes, sorry Toujeo, it was Claig I meant.

Unfortunately, Will Self is an elitist who looks down on ordinary people, in my opinion. I thought he might be Oxbridge, and it looks like he is. He is similar to the Oxbridge New Labour crew who think they know better than the people. They are miffed that the people disagree with them on Brexit and lots of other things. No wonder the elitist doesn't like Trump. This shows what he thinks of people he calls the "underclass".

"Looked at in this way, the ten-tonne fatberg that almost completely blocked the sewer in Chelsea, west London, last year was a true representation of the British underclass: out of sight is out of mind, until it bungs up the entire political process and the constitutional drains start to back up.

Nigel Farage is a fatberg politician. His physical manifestation may be a mucilage of sanitised patriotism and fatty Brit bigotry, but what has put him centre stage is a wave of shitty resentment."

The "underclass" are shitty, dirty, fatty bigots because they don't agree with him and his Oxbridge metropolitan mates.

You can see what a rude, desperately scared Oxbridge elitist who realises that the people disagree with him, he is when he rudely dismisses the excellent Dreda Say Mitchell who supported Brexit and is polite in the face of his arrogant, entitled elitism.
