Thanks for proving my point.

Lweji · 15/10/2016 07:59

Can you honestly say that you'd vote for Hillary if she was like Trump and vice-versa?

Lweji · 15/10/2016 08:05

You can tell everyone why you prefer one to the other.
Others can also make their own conclusions about the real reasons behind the explicit reasons.

I doubt very much that a woman with vague and conflicting policies, no knowledge of any issues, hateful speech, allegations of sexual assault by her, inciting to violence, hiding her tax returns, having gone bankrupt 4 times, having racial lawsuits, not disavowing racist supporters, etc, etc, would have gone as far as the first nomination ballot.

claig · 15/10/2016 08:13

This is the reason people are voting for Trump. Never has a politician told the truth like this and never will they again. As one of the women interviewed in BBC ewsnight's film on Trump fans in Youngstown Ohio said
"this is our last chance. There will never be someone like him again".

This is why they are so desperate to stop him.

The real speech the other day at the West Palm Beach Florida rally was even more powerful, but this combines the words well. He even mentions the UK and Brexit and how we beat them here.

Never has a politician told the truth like this and never will they again.

Isn't that the truth. Wink
And I hope they don't.

I mean, most politicians aren't known for being very truthful, but Trump really pushes it to Guinness levels.

fourmummy · 15/10/2016 08:19

Can't join much in today either but...

WW A bit like Brexit, then?

Lweji "I doubt very much that a woman with vague and conflicting policies, no knowledge of any issues, hateful speech, allegations of sexual assault by her, inciting to violence, hiding her tax returns, having gone bankrupt 4 times, having racial lawsuits, not disavowing racist supporters..." At least some of this seems to apply right across the board. "Basket of deplorables", Libya, Clinton Foundation, "Am I invited? Can I go?" (with reference to Obama's meetings) spring to mind Wink Grin

Roussette · 15/10/2016 08:26

So if this mini conversation is played out big across the US, I can see how the people who don't want Hillary in office are not being persuaded at all by others who behave and talk in this lofty way
I could say the same but in reverse, Trump supporters on here WW and claig are very dismissive of anything that anyone else brings up.

Trump is now saying that it's all a smear and it's easy to dig up people to make up lies (not if there aren't any!) and and he wouldn't have gone for them anyway because they weren't attractive enough for him. Also threatening anyone else who might come forward in the future. Just keep diggin' Donald....

ZuleikaDobson · 15/10/2016 08:31

Never has a politician told the truth like this

But you keep telling us how it doesn't matter that he blatantly lies so much. You can't have it both ways.

claig · 15/10/2016 08:36

'But you keep telling us how it doesn't matter that he blatantly lies so much'

He doesn't lie, he reverses his positions, is inconsistent and bullshits because he hasn't thought lots of things through, but he knows why he entered the race, he knows what he is up against and he knows why he is taking them on and bringing them down.

OP posts:
Roussette · 15/10/2016 08:44

Come on claig that is just twisting of words/splitting hairs! He reverses his politics means he lies.

lljkk · 15/10/2016 08:50

I know why he entered the race too. Because DT is an attention seeker of highest order with ego the size of a small planet.

claig · 15/10/2016 08:51

'He reverses his politics means he lies.'

No, often he hasn't got a clue and says the total opposite to what he has said before because he hasn't thought about it and so says whatever comes to his head at the time. He is not a "politician" and therefore doesn't know half the arguments and hasn't thought about them, all he cares about is taking America back off the crooks. But he will have a team of wonks who draw up policy, it won't be him doing it.

lljkk · 15/10/2016 08:58

Maybe the guy who wants to have his finger on the big red button should have more of a habit of thinking before he speaks. Just a thought.

Roussette · 15/10/2016 09:08

'He doesn't have a clue. He thinks before he speaks. He says one thing whilst meaning another. He does and says the first thing that comes into his head. He's inconsistent. He bullshits'

Right.....

Breadandwine · 15/10/2016 09:31

...he hasn't thought lots of things through, but he knows why he entered the race, he knows what he is up against and he knows why he is taking them on and bringing them down.

Fascinating, claig. So you know what he's thought through and what he hasn't.

To sum up this thread (well, part of it, anyway): we have the supreme mysogynist being defended by the infinitely gullible.

(Look it up, claig, it really is in the dictionary.)

claig · 15/10/2016 09:39

'So you know what he's thought through and what he hasn't.'

Yes, because every inconsistency and reversal is something he has not thought through.

The bottom line is (just like with Brexit): Why are people prepared to support this? The answer will depend on where you look for it. You can either find the answer in the people themselves, who are labelled sexist, racist, etc., thereby shifting the spotlight from other issues (bad quality of life for many Americans) or you can focus on the bad quality of life for many Americans thereby shifting the spotlight from other issues. Personally, I don't believe that most people are racist, sexist and everything else that is nasty (what Hillary said, referring to at least half of them). Most people aren't nasty. They are just ordinary people, like me. We are pretty much all the same. Not naturally royal, or privileged, or better. The fact that they are prepared to put up with crappy shenanigans of their candidate speaks volumes to me. Absolute volumes. Hilary is dismissing ordinary people as deplorable thereby betraying her own elitist outlook on the world. Is it worse than what Trump says? Well, that's an argument all of its own.

claig · 15/10/2016 10:15

Apparently there is a Paxman show on BBC Panorama on Monday night about Trump and the US elections and they interview Farage and this is what he says

“You know, there are lots of things in this campaign that I couldn’t support in any way at all and nor do I … But I spoke to people who were, Trump voters – gonna vote Trump in this election, and do you know what – they couldn’t care less. They couldn’t give a damn what Trump says, who he offends because they see him as their weapon against the establishment and they see Hillary as being the epitome of that establishment.”

Farage, who has returned temporarily as Ukip leader after the shortlived tenure of Diane James, said people were voting for Trump because of the “little people saying: ‘We have had enough ... and we want a change and we don’t care if that change causes a rupture’”.

Maybe we need a new portmanteau for when fascists explain fascism to us. Fascplaining? Nice bit of fascplaining from Farage there.

claig · 15/10/2016 10:29

Diamond and Silk, the legendary Stump for Trump Sisters, were on stage last night at Trump's rally in North Carolina giving the Establishment hell.

finally someone with some sense and willing to describe the clinton campaign to a tee

ZuleikaDobson · 15/10/2016 10:52

Yes, because every inconsistency and reversal is something he has not thought through.

And you know this how?

Do you seriously feel safe at the prospect of someone who acts before thinking things through being President of one of the most powerful countries in the world?

claig · 15/10/2016 10:57

'Do you seriously feel safe at the prospect of someone who acts before thinking things through being President of one of the most powerful countries in the world?'

Yes, because he is surrounded by advisers. He won't be making the decisions on his own, he has top advice from top people.

OP posts:
Lweji · 15/10/2016 11:09

Yes, because he is surrounded by advisers. He won't be making the decisions on his own, he has top advice from top people.

But he'll need to decide between often conflicting advice. Do you trust his judgement?

And maybe people should vote for those top people. Not him.Grin

merrymouse · 15/10/2016 11:10

Yes, because he is surrounded by advisers. He won't be making the decisions on his own, he has top advice from top people.

And your evidence to show that Trump listens to other people is....?

Do you think he was advised to send random deranged tweets in the middle of the night?
