The problem with Trump's attempt to dismiss the tape recordings as just "locker room talk" is that we know perfectly well that in his case it is not just talk: he behaves in exactly the way he describes. Further, what is important about them is what they reveal about his attitude towards women as nothing more than sexual objects.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 07:23

Four mummy: claig is right, there is way worse to come than this video.

Claig have you seen what LM says is in the apprentice rushes.

TheForeignOffice · 10/10/2016 07:27

fourmummy I think his odds probably are up a bit. It will be interesting to see how the markets react today - they were certainly responsive to the first debate.

For now, there seems to have been quite some volatility but with the net outcome that Trump edged a very small victory (gold in USD up, Mexican peso down).

Don't bet the house quite yet though Wink, that could change in the blink of an eye, any any case I think it only represents slight increase in risk, not his winning.

If actual betting odds increase, I'd love to know so do post if you find out!

LineyReborn · 10/10/2016 07:38

How could Trump possibly know the outcome in advance of any investigation and potential prosecution of HC? ('You'd be in jail')

It makes him sound arrogant, presumptuous and as corrupt as he claims she is.

He's coming across as bad as he claims she is, but stupider.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 07:42

Y the markets in Asia had an immediate reaction to a Trump win.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 07:45

He's not going to get any blowback on the jail comment. His supporters love it, and even most normal people think she did some pretty bad stuff that merited at least a tougher investigation.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 07:48

I'm so annoyed by Poooot'n. All the time Pooot'n. IT'S PEWTIN ALREADY.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 08:17

Hillary was certainly as anxious to gloss over the sex abuse issues as Trump.
He lost in a way because he had been hearing to hit the Clinton hard, but had to start from a defensive position. They are at least on a level field.

Hillary suggested he was hiding his taxes to hide his debt to corporations. She may be right.
They are both seen as hiding something and it's odd that Trump doesn't want hid taxes public. Is it just that he hasn't paid tax? It has already come out, what else is there?

Trump did get rattled, although it went a lot better for him than he antecipated.

I think Hillary did well in not letting it get too dirty and personal, whereas Trump was ready for the mud.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 08:17

...gearing to hit...

Threesoundslikealot · 10/10/2016 08:41

WinchesterWoman, call Trump's Prosector threat nothing if you will, but it's headlines across the world for a reason. It terrifies people. It has historical resonance beyond anything that the unhinged orange one could imagine.

Look outside the Trump bubble of lies and long-debunked conspiracy theories and you'll find an awful lot of people disgusted by the whole package who won't vote for The Donald. Unless he can win some of them over, he's not going to win. Threatening to lock up your political opponent isn't the way to reassure anyone.

LineyReborn · 10/10/2016 08:43

Exactly. The justice system locks people up in a democracy, not a president.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 08:44

There should be separation of powers.
For the President to be seen instructing the justice system is very worrying.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 08:50

People are not terrified. It's like the faux misogyny outrage - apparent nowhere except for trump.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 08:52

The people that I know are.

Threesoundslikealot · 10/10/2016 08:54

I am too. And the reek of misogyny coming off Trump is overwhelming. Kid yourself that it's not real but then wonder why so few women are going to vote for him.

LineyReborn · 10/10/2016 09:07

Apparently there's an Apprentice 'N-word' leak yet to happen? My sources are rubbish tabloids, though. But it's already out there, online, being touted as a possibility.

I'm just not seeing this allegedly racist, misogynistic, tax-avoiding, 'locker room bantering' privileged white man as particularly 'anti-establishment'. Rather the opposite, in fact. Even his business dealings are at least as shady as the Clintons'.

He's just a crappier personification of the Establishment, not its antithesis.

claig · 10/10/2016 09:12

"New poll reveals huge support for Donald Trump despite video of obscene sexual comments about women"

www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/donald-trump-latest-poll-figures-hillary-clinton-second-tv-presidential-debate-a7352971.html

It is still close. In a recent poll of all women, Hillary was on 50% and Trump was on 38%, and among white women it was 50-50

Haven't checked LM out yet, Winchester. But if there is far worse to come, Lord only knows what will happen.

OP posts:
WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 09:13

I'm not kidding myself it's not real. It's real alright. What's not real is the outrage from Clinton supporters. They've conveniently ignored all sorts of misogyny that doesn't suit their agenda. I suspect you do too.

Threesoundslikealot · 10/10/2016 09:15

Me? No. Sorry.

NightWanderer · 10/10/2016 09:15

Trump makes a lot of digs to Hilary about money. My guess is that he's flat broke. I think that's also part of why he doesn't want the tax returns to come out. Just a guess though.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 09:24

Really? So you condemn Hillary for smearing the women her husband victimised? You deplore the guardian headline accusing trump of 'parading' women he victimised some of whom accuse him of rape? You deplore the cries of racism around the cologne assaults and you deplore the cover up? Because 'the meeja' has and had a very different stance then. But Suddenly misogyny is the new black.

Lweji · 10/10/2016 09:24

He's just a crappier personification of the Establishment, not its antithesis.

So much this!

It's interesting that Trump does have many women working for him and promotes them up the rankings.
The reasons given are interesting, though. It seems they are better workers, i.e. more likely to do overtime without being asked and get things done. I'd like to see how many have young families, even though Ivanka says they have decent maternity provision. Their proposal is still not on a par with Hillary's.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 09:27

Again a failure of understanding, calling trump the establishment. He's privileged, wealthy, probably corrupt, a tax avoider, entitled and noxious in the extreme. But if he was in any way establishment he would not have had to fight his party and the media to get the nomination.

fourmummy · 10/10/2016 09:29

He's the third column in the troika of GE and Brexit (being very UK/US-centrist about it). The structures are in place for him to slot in - many voters are ready to go, the will is there, the mood is right. No sexism, racism, taxes, will destabilise this. It's all about the pieces in a jigsaw, the bigger picture, and not about his persona at all. Something can but I can't think at the moment what it could be. We'll know it if and when it happens. Until then, I'd say it's looking like the bastard might actually do it.

WinchesterWoman · 10/10/2016 09:32

It's not about him though. For example I can't stand him. It's about (and you do say this) the movement and the instinct behind him. I CAN stand the movement, in fact I quite like it. Whereas Hillary, can't stand her, can't stand what she stands for.
