Cllr Mackenzie calls disabled people the "unwashed"

Quite frankly i think this disabilist bastard should resign. He put his comment on twitter. It was referring to the disability protesters at Oxford Circus and Regent Street.
He is a 25 year old councillor from Basildon in Essex.
The best tweet back to him was "if you think the disabled are unwashed now just wait until they take the care component of DLA away."
This sort of blatent discrimination makes me sick. Arsehole!

Unbelievable! Surely he won't be allowed to get away with it?

He should RESIGN NOW.

Bastard twat. Resign you prick

DilysPrice · 28/01/2012 16:30

Whilst he is presumably a nasty Tory bastard, I strongly suspect he would also have referred to anti-student loan/anti-cuts/anti-war protesters as "the unwashed" - it's a standard rightwing put down of any protesters they disagree with. It's insulting (and intentionally so), and witty comebacks are entirely justified, but it is not a disablist comment.

TheFallenMadonna · 28/01/2012 16:35

He was referring only to the protestors rather than disabled people generally? If so, I agree with Dilys.

FizzyLaces · 28/01/2012 16:36

I care deeply about disability issues, but, like Dilys, he would have responded to any protersters this way.

I expect he is offensive to all, not just disabled people.

FizzyLaces · 28/01/2012 16:37

*protesters

ShagOBite · 28/01/2012 16:41

What exactly did he say, and who exactly is he?

edam · 28/01/2012 16:50

Yeah but 'unwashed' in relation to disabled people who are losing the care services and benefits that help them to maintain a basic level of human dignity carries an extra element of cruelty.

Nasty fucker. Clearly a bit too thick to realise he's only one chance away from acquiring a disability himself. Hope he's extremely careful when crossing the road...

carernotasaint · 28/01/2012 16:56

exactly edam. Thats what i was saying but you"ve said it better.

One of our local councillors (another tory shockingly) Hmm did something very similar recently on twitter, referring to people protesting against cuts to disabled people as retards. He appealed against his suspension and went back to work.

Oh and I can hang those little tree air freshener things you have in cars on the handles too

StealthPolarBear · 28/01/2012 17:31

Agree with exam

NiceViper · 28/01/2012 17:32

"unwashed" usually refers to protesters, especially those who attend other protests to make trouble. Were there any at this protest who were hijacking it? (It has, after all, happened to a greater or lesser extent at so many protests recently).

edam · 28/01/2012 17:33

Thanks carer - wonder how you can complain about him? (i.e. what's the method?)

carernotasaint · 28/01/2012 17:35

I suspect it would have to be through the media who dont care about disability issues sadly.

I don't do twitter, and (somewhat surprisingly) there is nothing relating to this that I can find on google. I can quite see why one would not want to give hi comments additional publicity, but could someone link to a site where they can be found? Thank you.

OpinionatedMum · 28/01/2012 17:40

Are you sure he is for real? I saw that and thought he was a troll. Is he a real councillor?!Shock

Pressure on him is only going to work at the local level. Might you want to cop this to the relevant MN local board?

I've tried googling again, but can still find nothing about this; and I would rather have expected comments about it to be discoverable on blog or local newspaper sites. Could someone be kind and signpost? Thanks.

TeWihara · 28/01/2012 19:02

It's on his twitter I saw it earlier, give me 2 minutes
