Cllr Mackenzie calls disabled people the "unwashed"

Quite frankly i think this disabilist bastard should resign. He put his comment on twitter. It was referring to the disability protesters at Oxford Circus and Regent Street.
He is a 25 year old councillor from Basildon in Essex.
The best tweet back to him was "if you think the disabled are unwashed now just wait until they take the care component of DLA away."
This sort of blatent discrimination makes me sick. Arsehole!

I agree he should resign though, he is trying to fob it off as aimed at UKuncut (who decided to tag along but were responsible non trouble makers, as they generally are!)

He said "I hear there are a bunch of unwashed people at Oxford and Regent Street, if you don't like capitalism move to North Korea #UKUNCUT" about 6 hours ago.

@CllrMackenzie

Def circulate that comment.offensive
He'll not doubt refute comment and offer an insincere apology

sodapops · 28/01/2012 19:14

I've just seen it.

I'd rather be "unwashed" than a cunt TBH!

Grumpla · 28/01/2012 19:16

What a fucking ignoramus.

NiceViper · 28/01/2012 19:17

Thanks for posting the actual tweet. On the Diana Abbott principle, he's off the hook. It's clear from what TeWihara posted that the comments were aimed at the anti-capitalist protesters who were hijacking the original protest.

edam · 28/01/2012 20:00

adding #ukuncut at the end doesn't get him off the hook - if he's too stupid to have checked what the protest was about before tweeting, then he's too stupid to make decisions on behalf of the electorate.

Write to both?

Him asking him to resign, and your MP to put pressure on him to resign?

Letter to MP is good but do write to your local paper as well. MP doesn't have any control over local councillors, though, you need to find out who is the leader of the Tories on our local council, and the leader of the opposition - contact the leader of the Tories to express your horror and insist on an apology, contact the opposition so they can press him in the council chamber.

"losing the care benefits and services like assistance with bathing that help them" etc.

Spelling it out means no one can fail to grasp the connection.

Mists · 28/01/2012 21:17

Yes, you're right. For some people it does need to be spelt out. I'd try to recruit via Facebook but it's the same old problem whenever I do that. Petitions and articles get ignored because disability isn't a problem for the not yet disabled general population and the friends I do have who have a disabled child are really apathetic Sad

CardyMow · 29/01/2012 09:33

Shock. What a complete disablist tosspot of the highest order!! Angry

Don't you find all the manufactured outrage rather wearing?

Quite obvious that 'unwashed' refers to UK Uncut; you have to really want to be offended to read it any other way.

Still, it's a hobby I suppose.

GenericFrother · 30/01/2012 15:41

Hello and welcome Cllr Mackenzie Grin

"adding #ukuncut at the end doesn't get him off the hook - if he's too stupid to have checked what the protest was about before tweeting, then he's too stupid to make decisions on behalf of the electorate"

GenericFrother · 30/01/2012 15:48

You are the counsellor for Vange are you not? The area which has a high proportion of socio-economically and educationally disadvantaged people. Soft targets aren't they? Do you tell hard-working families to move to Korea when they complain? Would you like to address your ACTUAL comments and twitter fuck-up?

GenericFrother · 30/01/2012 16:12

This thread is going to the opposition leader in its entirety. I may not have local connections now but I have plenty of family in the Lee Chapel South, Woodlands and Kingswood area. Hardly benefit-counting scumbags.

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 18:40

Certainly am happy to email his council leader and complain that a councillor has spread his odious views on twitter

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 18:47

list of basildon councillors and their contact details to submit complaint if wished

councillor ball, council leader I shall email this chap

edam · 30/01/2012 20:09

Evening Standard today says he's apologised and claimed he thought it was UK Uncut and not people with disabilities. So why was he shooting his mouth off before finding out what the demonstration was about? Is this the level of decision making elected representatives paid thousands of pounds in allowances should work at? And how come he doesn't understand that the right to protest is fundamental to democracy? A politician who fails to grasp that fairly basic fact isn't fit to ask for our votes. Why do UK politicians make approving comments about protesters in Arab countries, for example, but condemn them here - without even bothering to ask what they are protesting about?

scottishmummy · 30/01/2012 20:15

Naturally he backtracks and claims misrepresentation
well he would say that wouldn't he....

GenericFrother · 30/01/2012 20:21

Surprised he hasn't posed with a disabled relative yet...
