Fed up of the cuts? Fed up of the mislead bigotry? This is your sanctuary. Unwind. Vent. Pop over to the frothers thread if you feel like getting organised and doing some proactive stuff or just chill out with a cup of builders tea in a polystyrene cup.

Welcome.

And articles 6, 22, 25. I confess I don't know much about Human Rights law but surely by ignoring individuals needs in favour of looking at family units is to deny the rights of those individuals?

I hope you're wrong Pinko.

Does Wine clash with the donkey jacket.

I could probably find some John's Smiths at the back of the fridge. Grin

KatieMiddleton · 27/01/2012 19:13

I'll have a LARGE g&t please Smile

I don't think the UN Declaration is legally binding, Katie. But limiting DLA to one member of the household sounds like something which will be legally challengeable ( and challenged) for a whole host of reasons.

KatieMiddleton · 27/01/2012 19:27

You're probably right. But it's a pretty poor show if we can't as a civilised country uphold it.

I was looking for the European convention on Human Rights (or something like that??) but I'm a bit headachey and struggling a bit this evening. I think we have to abide by EU law because that can be challenged.

I am fine with UK law but a bit hazey on Europe other than directives. Will have to read a book or something Grin

I've just found this: www.europarl.europa.eu/charter/default_en.htm

I am devastated to open my fridge and find nowt but a bottle of champagne winking at me and twinkling its little foily top suggestively

TeWihara · 27/01/2012 19:36

We do have to uphold ECHR or be taken to court.

I know that fairly recently some public sector pensions in the UK weren't paid out to women who were married and this was ovveruled as against the human rights at the european court.

So there is definately a precedent for vaguely this kind of legal action.

BIWI · 27/01/2012 19:37

How traumatic Hully. I feel your pain.

Scarletbanner · 27/01/2012 19:38

Quick primer then:

The Eur Convention on HR, which is now part of UK law via the Human Rights Act, is here. It's not got anything to do with the EU. HR cases go to the Eur Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Breaches of EU law go to the Court of Justice of the EU in Luxembourg.

PinotMN · 27/01/2012 19:40

I love champagne. Makes me pregnant though.

KnottyLocks · 27/01/2012 19:41

Aha. The booze is flowing. Excellent. Grin

I'll have a gin and vodka cocktail. I thanks you.

MmeLindor. · 27/01/2012 19:41

Anyone want some Gigondas? Bought because we have been on holiday there and the bottle was pretty. #winesnob

sunshineandbooks · 27/01/2012 19:52

Grin at MmeLindor and the pretty bottle. I do the same thing in reverse - cannot buy that wine in a 'carafe' because it reminds me too much of the portable urinals used in hospitals.

KatieMiddleton · 27/01/2012 20:07

Ah goodo Scarlet. That sounds familiar. I've thought it had it's own court but thought I better look it up in case I was confused.

I'll have a proper look tomorrow when I'm a bit more on this planet.
