I'm not quite a frothing berserker but I am getting rather cross with our government messing with the good stuff.

Just off the top of my head:

  • Student fees
  • Public sector workers terms and conditions (otherwise known as moving the goal posts after the match has started)
  • Women (Report on Fawcett legal challenge result here)
  • Sure Start
  • NHS
  • Erosion of employment rights
  • Removal of EMA
  • Removal of universal child benefit
  • Unfair changes to DLA
  • Unfair changes to ESA assessment

I am getting more and more fed up that these decisions are being made to take away some of the things we should be most proud of and that took years to be achieved.

This thread is a safe haven for some ranting as I know some of us are feeling sick and tired of it all.

These threads are making me come out of my usual lurking. Having become a bit boring and middle of the road, I'm now finding myself furious and leftwing again. (Not frothing yet.)

I am usually optimistic, but feel quite numb with worry about everything. I have been unemployed since April (had fixed term public sector job), am beginning to feel unemployable and am consumed by rage and hatred for Cameron and his gang. Ed Miliband is a disgrace - show some support for the people who made you leader. Bastards.

Also have a son who is doing 'voluntary' work experience in large supermarket. Now that does make me froth.

claig · 30/11/2011 16:43

Of course. No hard feelings. I understand that you are very angry at the government as are millions of other people. But, it's always worth remembering that neighbours who vote Tory and think differently aren't wankers. They may be wrong, but they are not to blame for austerity.

I think austerity is what has been planned by teh elite to reduce living standards and pensions of our ageing population, and when the Tories are voted out, teh austeity will still go on, just as Labour never repealed Thatcher's union laws.

claig · 30/11/2011 16:48

'Also have a son who is doing 'voluntary' work experience in large supermarket.'

TheCrone, does that mean he isn't being paid?

KateMiddIeton · 30/11/2011 16:51

Phew glad you all kissed and made up. It was getting a bit PMQs for a minute there and it's not about the blame. It's not even about the past. It is very much about the future.

It is much harder to reinstate something than it is to lose it. What they are doing to the welfare state will be so, so hard to get back. That's why we need to stand up now.

True - a couple of my family vote tory and I still love 'em!
I simply can't understand why anyone other than the stupidly rich vote tory.
I am also not blind to the fact that Labour would do exactly the same - I just think they might have done it over a longer period and probably wouldn't have meddled with DLA the way D and G have.
I am beyond livid with the way the divide and rule game has been orchestrated by this government. As I said above, I am a public sector worker and I work hard. I am totally fed up with the ignorant claims in some of the press that we are all lazy and bloated with gold plated pensions. We are all, private and public, interdependent on each other. It is never as black and white as private vs public.
I agree with you that this is all planned by the elite - they are waiting in the wings to pick over the carcasses. And I, sadly, agree that Labour are unlikely to revert the cuts.
Glad we've made up!

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 16:57

claig have you seen the "WorkFare" thread ?

it's all on there

People working for their JSA. But not on community projects, nor for charity etc

But for large, profit-making institutions such as Asda, Boots, Tesco

So, they get a steady, constantly-replaced stream of free labour at tax payers expense and hey presto soaring profits

claig · 30/11/2011 17:00

We're all the people. We're all the 99% and it is all of us who get stuffed, and some much more than others. We don't agree on everything, but we are all getting stuffed together.

Millionaire ministers call millions of low paid workers "irresponsible" and somehow think that that will cause divide and rule among the people. Don't they have any better PR than that? Don't they realise that the public supports teh strike. The cars that hoot, the people that clap. Private sector workers leaning out of windows and cheering teh strikers on.

The private sector pensions are much worse and millions have no pension whatsoever, but they don't begrudge public sector workers, they are just happy that finally someone is making a stand.

Fingers crossed that it will get better.

claig · 30/11/2011 17:01

No, I haven't seen that AnyFucker.
I didn't realise how bad it was. I will look for that thread.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 17:04

I will link it for you

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 17:06

here

claig · 30/11/2011 17:07

Thanks, AnyFucker

HarrietJones · 30/11/2011 17:09

Been to a local rally. Quite a lot there but was very short. Was surprised how many ambulance staff were there. We passed the station. & they had a good picket going too. From overheard convo they seemed to be doing it between calls.

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 17:11

As the parent of a yr 11 child, that WorkFare thread makes me want to throw myself under a bus

AnyFucker · 30/11/2011 17:12

Harriet,,,did you get any support from bystanders/members of the public ?

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 17:20

well done to those who've been out in the cold on rallies Smile

can't be doing with the attack a party that's not in anymore whilst we're discussing teh shit going on under this government stuff so will stay well out of that.

claig · 30/11/2011 17:24

'can't be doing with the attack a party that's not in anymore whilst we're discussing teh shit going on under this government stuff so will stay well out of that.'

I think it's worth seeing the bigger picture and realising that they are essentially two sides of teh same coin. who pass the baton over to each other to continue teh same trend. I think that gives a better understanding of what is happening right now. The present is justa continuation of teh past and if we don't realise that, it will be our perpetual future.

JuliaScurr · 30/11/2011 17:25

Me & DP were on hospital picket/rally - bloody freezing but we had the warm glow of solidarity - great response from public. Likewise at local council offices. Take that, Cameron! We've got a vuvuzela - and we're not afraid to use it!

claig · 30/11/2011 17:26

Maybe new parties will arise that are not part of the cosy consensus

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 17:30

i just think there is a bit more going on here than an opportunity for you to peddle the same old theory you peddle out claig whilst still being a tory voter. i'm not going to tone down my frothing against this government because a tory has decided to join the thread. the freedom to froth is kind of the point.

you are a tory voter and will vote for them again? if yes i don't get the point of your presence in all honesty and find it intrusive

claig · 30/11/2011 17:31

It's so obvious, it is staring us in the face and all this LabConDem is just divide and rule

heir to blair

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 17:31

if we wanted a oh but look labour are shit too thread we could have picked from zillions on the search engines. this was a thread starting from a point of consensus that the tory party and what they are doing and their basic ideology is shite! i don't think that fits well with a tory voter.

swallowedAfly · 30/11/2011 17:32

i really don't want to see this thread turn into a polite shuffling around increasingly bizarre conspiracy theories that profit nothing other mental masturbation.

HarrietJones · 30/11/2011 17:33

Only anti stuff I saw were the people who wanted to use the toilets that were shut!

claig · 30/11/2011 17:36

I didn't ask you to tone anything down.

'i just think there is a bit more going on here'
What's that?

'you are a tory voter and will vote for them again?'
Yes and I may do, but I voted Labour in 1997 and may do again if I think they are the best option.

'you are a tory voter and will vote for them again? if yes i don't get the point of your presence in all honesty and find it intrusive'

I was just contributing to a thread on politics, because I support the strikers too.

But as you find my "presence intrusive", I will leave.

claig · 30/11/2011 17:38

'i really don't want to see this thread turn into a polite shuffling around increasingly bizarre conspiracy theories that profit nothing other mental masturbation.'

then why are you continuing to post on it?
