According to the Mail, everyone (well, everyone who earns) is going to get a nice income tax cut! £320 for basic-rate taxpayers, £45 for higher-rate.

Marking my spot :)

MarioandLuigi · 23/03/2011 10:33

If you are a higher rate tax payer, £45 isnt exactly a deal breaker is it, so why bother.

longfingernails · 23/03/2011 10:38

Politics is about symbols and emotion as much as facts (often, I really hate this) - but the idea that the assault on people on very decent but by no means outrageous incomes (like £40k) won't go any further is rather appealing.

I agree with that, but it just seems like a hollow gesture - £3.75 a month is not going to excite anyone is it?

Chil1234 · 23/03/2011 10:46

I'll have anyone's that doesn't want their £3.75.... :)

longfingernails · 23/03/2011 11:10

Also, the fuel duty increase will be scrapped, apparently.

I am looking forward to the income tax cut. I would say higher rate tax payers are on a pretty large income anyway so they arent going to get a big rise. I think its a good idea though

BoffinMum · 23/03/2011 11:30

Noodle, I have just been swept into the higher rate band. My childcare costs are £22k, my commuting costs are £4k and rising, I have about £75 a week left after all that, and I'm about to see child benefit disappear. Not exactly riches.

noodle69 · 23/03/2011 11:33

Surely you can get childcare cheaper than that?

MarioandLuigi · 23/03/2011 11:35

So how will you spend your extra £3.75 a week then BoffinMum?

noodle69 · 23/03/2011 11:37

Yeah but childcare is only for a few years and then you will be rich. People in poor areas though will be poor for life with no way they could dream of becoming higher rate tax payers. Thats the way to look at it I think.

meditrina · 23/03/2011 11:38

Just seen the "Red Box" moment.

It seems the users of private jets might be getting a new tax.

Full time childcare here is £7500 but it isnt fancy like you get in London or here about on here!

redrobin · 23/03/2011 12:04

we dont know how many children boffinmum has, to be fair.

jugglingjo · 23/03/2011 12:17

I heard that those earning under £8000 won't be taxed at all ?

As that's me (working PT) I'm rather hopeful !

When's it being brought in ?

LargeGlassOfRedPlease · 23/03/2011 12:29

Boffin - 22K/year? Two children under 3yrs old in nursey FT?

jilly5 · 23/03/2011 12:31

Looks like Boffinmum has 4 kids, thats a brave woman!

amidaiwish · 23/03/2011 12:32

i paid £1900/mth for 2 kids in nursery 4 days week - london suburbs. nothing fancy at all (teddies chain) so £22k isn't that unusual ime.

meditrina · 23/03/2011 12:33

Off we go! He's on his feet now.

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 23/03/2011 12:34

Chrononaut · 23/03/2011 12:34

MarioandLuigi · 23/03/2011 12:34

Here we go!

thaigreencurry · 23/03/2011 12:36

£22k is the norm if BoffinMum has two kids.
