£22k is what it would cost us too if we had 2 DC in childcare (only have 1 DC at the mo). Nothing fancy about our nursery school either - and we are in Kent.

noodle69 - that's what we thought after paying out over 28K in the last 4 years (2DC 3 days/week), but now we have a pesky childcare bill of £300/month we just realise what we went without as now! We can afford now to buy the odd item of clothing and have the odd lunch out..but still we feel skint Sad as everything is so much more expensive. Losing our c/b too.

I would not like to be starting out having children in our shoes now, just relieved we've more or less done the worst of the childcare

Disappointed that NI and Income Tax haven't been merged - just a review

But wonderful, wonderful news on the fall in corporation tax!

When you've finished paying for childcare you can start saving for uni fees...

Osborne is so beautiful. Oh Gideon..

FANTASTIC news on corporation tax and new exemptions for small businesses.

I used to pay £4k a year in transport costs (season ticket to work) when I earned £16k, so you still have it better than a lot of people!

how do you work that out Rhian82? based on what? % of income?

I'm glad he's extending the mortgage help, that's a weight off my mind as I still havent found work yet and it was getting the help in the first place that saved the house from repossession.

What has happened to Mn I'm sure these threads used to garner more interest, have the Tory mouthpieces killed the politics section. You have to be some kind of tory bot happiestblonde.

Sorry I just think business taxes should be low to encourage the private sector...

(works for the Conservative party...)

there's just not much to it

it's all reviews (NI/PAYE and 50p rate) and all talk and no trousers

Tax and NI merger is definitely a long-term project. You can't just slap a 50% tax increase on pensioners! There's quite a lot that needs to be dealt with first.

Even when he makes proposals that I fully agree with George Osborne still makes my skin crawl. Especially with Nick & Dave like a pair of nodding dogs behind him.

Although I think Danny Alexander may have nodded off.

'all talk and no trousers'
that's disappointing, so it's a continuation of Labour's policies?

meditrina · 23/03/2011 13:13

Yes, I think he has!

Green investment bank - hadn't heard about that before. The 40,000 new apprenticeships sounds good (if it's a "real" figure).

Nick Clegg looks miserable

Is it weird that I would happily eat Osborne? He's gorgeous.

Shame about the green stuff.

I'd rather keep my child benefit next year than gain the £45 tax benefit this year- I'm still going to end up worse off :-(

foxinsocks · 23/03/2011 13:15

poor Liz Taylor has died

you couldn't just add NI to PAYE. NI works in such a different way with thresholds and all sorts and different percentages, they would have to totally simplify it. It won't happen for many many years.

Not sure I like the sound of the Green Investment Bank. But lots of good stuff about encouraging private enterprise.
