Multiculturalism has failed, says Angela Merkel. Has it failed in Britain?

"The Approach to build a multicultural society and live side by side has failed, utterly failed". Says Ms. Merkel. Has it failed in Britain? Particularly when we remember that all of the 7/7 bombers were British born? It appears the bombers had no allegiance to this country.
I think it has failed, just as it has in Germany.

oooh, look, I Googled and it turns out complimentary is wrong. In fact 84% are EAL, not all Bengali, and large numbers (a fifth) are refugees.

And note EAL does not mean 'does not speak English', it means English is not their first language. I'd wager a large proportion of Kosovan and Somalian refugees speak better English than many, um, 'indigenous' speakers.

And, oooh, guess what again: the school is working to integrate and, yup, assimilate migrants so they can get more involved by working with parents - improving attendance at parents' evenings to 100%.

Oh yeah. That's a multicultural failure that is.

GoreRenewed · 17/10/2010 22:16

quattro a socialist? Well good for you Grin I knoew I always liked you!

GoreRenewed · 17/10/2010 22:18

DD just spent a few hours doing her history hw. Please don't tell me she's been wasting her time! Bugger! Maybe she got it wrong.

TethHearseEnd · 17/10/2010 22:18

"I don't think you ever worked there."

You don't think I ever worked there because I told you I didn't.

You brought up Argyle school, I would like to know how you know the school, which I think is a pretty reasonable request.

I'm sure they'd be interested to know that you are using their ethnic make up data to make a point on the internet.

Unless you just googled it?

TethHearseEnd · 17/10/2010 22:20

xpost WS. I guess the socialists banned google too.

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:23

Oh give it a rest, info is out there! "You got me banged to rights teacher" I don't know it, it's not on OFSTED reports OK. I don't the school, I never lived there, went there, worked there!
It's not true, but if you want me to say it I will!

Quattrocento · 17/10/2010 22:24

I've been drawn into this Argyle School diversion, and checked out their ofsted report. It sounds fine. Ofsted rating is good.

In terms of ethnicity, what the ofsted report says is as follows

"Pupils in this large school are drawn from a wide range of ethnic backgrounds. The largest groups are Bangladeshi, Black African and Somali. A very high proportion are from homes where English is not the first language. The proportion of pupils with special educational needs and with statements of special educational needs is higher than the national average. Pupils' needs include learning difficulties, speech, language and communication difficulties, behavioural, emotional and social difficulties, autism and visual impairment. Pupil mobility is higher than the national average."

So, not 95% Bengali. A good thing about this school (IMO) is that despite a significant number of children not having English as a first language, the attainment scores are average by the end of year 6.

Oh by the way scarey teacher do report me for doing my maths!

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:28

QC. I have been to the school, with a freind and I know th make-up, of the school. It is right this school is a good school, and children very polite.

WilfShelf · 17/10/2010 22:28

Ah complimentary, the usual tactic: tell us something is fact, and you happen to know this, and when challenged with real evidence, try and wriggle out of it, demurring, and throwing round sly digs about how others need to get over it, calm down (another strategy, funnily enough, that DP likes to use) and 'ho ho, you got me bang to rights'.

And, usually, moving on to another choice 'fact' about how you know what immigrants are up to etc..

It doesn't wash. We're ahead of you.

TethHearseEnd · 17/10/2010 22:30

complimentary, I think you may be my new favourite poster Smile

usualsuspect · 17/10/2010 22:31

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:31

Not if I can help it!

Quattrocento · 17/10/2010 22:33

Thanks Gore :)

I really must be a socialist because I hit Google at the same time as my Red friends

BTW complimentary, you were talking about a cheshnut. So I thought you were slurring your words.

daftpunk · 17/10/2010 22:34

I don't usually deal in facts, I deal in feelings and emotions, and while I fully support your right to send your child to a school like the one described, I would hope you'd support my right to not touch it with a barge pole.

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:35

Wilself 'We're ahead of you' scarey, scarey, Ja mein oberlaunent! ( shites herself in corner).

Quattrocento · 17/10/2010 22:37

Facts are so tiresome, aren't they? I often find that in my work. Unfortunately I'd get sacked if I just decided to ignore them and go with my feelings. Now that I've abolished both maths and history I feel sure I could wave my magic socialist wand and do away with facts too.

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:40

Daftpunk. I had to LOL at your reponse, but in all seriousness this school, although not acheiving highly academically (only average by year 6) are some of the nicest children I've met, although my freind did not send her kids there.

daftpunk · 17/10/2010 22:40

I'm not stopping you sending your children to these schools, I wouldn't even comment on it, it's your life, but what I don't want is you calling me a racist just because I don't want my Children going there.

TethHearseEnd · 17/10/2010 22:44

You might want to sort that out.

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:46

Must retire to bed now, and read the brochure for the two public schools I've visited. Also must look at my copy of the Daily Mail, I find it such a spiffing read.
Goodnight all, particularly Daftpunk, without people like you, the world would not just go around, would it?...........Smile

daftpunk · 17/10/2010 22:47

Ahh, I'm sure they are complimentary Smile

Y 'know I was brought up in the London borough of Lambeth, and trust me, it's more red than Camden, I know what some of the schools are like..... And No Way..... etc

Just my opinion.

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:50

Daftpunk. It's up to you where you send your children. After all you have their best interests at heart, good luck to you. Name calling is the lowest form IMO, and shows a lack of vocabulary and breeding!

complimentary · 17/10/2010 22:53

DAFTPUNK Before I go to bed we are going to have playground spat! I say Camdens more Red than your rotten Lambeth OK!Grin

TethHearseEnd · 17/10/2010 22:55

"Oh by the way scarey teacher do report me for doing my maths!"

Couldn't agree more, complimentary. But don't let me keep you from your bed. Night night Smile
