Multiculturalism has failed, says Angela Merkel. Has it failed in Britain?

"The Approach to build a multicultural society and live side by side has failed, utterly failed". Says Ms. Merkel. Has it failed in Britain? Particularly when we remember that all of the 7/7 bombers were British born? It appears the bombers had no allegiance to this country.
I think it has failed, just as it has in Germany.

Well, at least the council grants for the one legged black lesbian single mother support groups will all be cut now.

Ok, firstly, I didn't know you were on this thread. If I'd known I wouldn't have said it because the last thing I want to do is offend you. I thought this thread was over/dead/no one taking any notice of it/ etc.

Secondly, I was talking to complimentary about jobs (look back, what I said follows on)
and yes, the guardian have, in the past advertised jobs like that. What do you think the statement;
" we particularly welcome applicants from minority and ethnic communities" means?
Positive discrimination is wrong and is not creating an equal society imo.
I was highlighting the absurdity of the guardian jobs section.
Nothing personal.

Yes, and you'd get the job before me because you're a lesbian and I'm not. They could tick a box with you.
That's not fair is it.

My sense of humour is not as sophisticated as yours obviously.
I've said I'm sorry.

Leninghoul. I don't think DP was laughing at anyone., I shared the joke cos it is such a stupid ad to put in a newspaper! My sense of humour is highly sophisticated that's why I don't take offence at things that could be aimed at me or mine, I have more confidence than that.I don't suffer insecurities.

Years ago people were always telling Irish jockes (I'm half Irish) I couldn't give a monkeys and neither did my Irish father! Tell as many jokes as you like!

Back to the issues, I think Switzerland sounds like a great place to live and does not seem to have all of our problems. Who else would like to to live in Switzerland or am I the only one? Grin
Dp. I'm surprised your still on here girl!

complimentary · 20/10/2010 22:45

'Irish Jokes' spelling....

daftpunk · 20/10/2010 22:52

I love England. I'm loyal.

& tbh, I think I'd die of boredom in Switzerland.

I agree about the Irish jokes, you could tell me a 1000 Irish jokes a day and I wouldn't give a toss. ( Irish parents too )

I have seen positive discrimination on grounds of colour. The positive discrimination was not in the advert but exercised in assigning the job.

complimentary · 20/10/2010 23:02

DP. I must visit Switzerland. I wonder what there turn is on multiculturalism? By what I read on this thread it doesn't exist!

I think the Swiss immigration policy is "don't come!"

Must say if I went to live in Switzerland I'd miss the network banter! but you could always log on from there!
I love England as well, in a minute before I go to bed I shall sing Jerusalem..... I love that song don't you? That and reading the Daily Mail!
Goodnight. Smile

daftpunk · 20/10/2010 23:05

of course positive discrimination goes on, 1000's of examples. It should be best person for the job regardless of any race/gender issues.

complimentary · 20/10/2010 23:07

Leninghoul. The Irish have been maligned for years. I dont take cracks about them or me seriously. That's why I'm such a happy soul!
I always say "you can call me what you like, as long as you call me!"
Goodnight. Smile

complimentary · 20/10/2010 23:12

DP. A thought for the night. The anti-discrimination bill is seriously flawed and discriminates against people on grounds of colour. If you have the 'perceived characteristics' you get the job, as stated that is why Harriet Harman set aside 2 million to fight court cases and tribunals that will ensue when it is properly up and running. That's for another thread. Night Night.Smile

daftpunk · 20/10/2010 23:14

You must watch the top 20 Asian names on YouTube, it's ok because it's two Asians taking the piss out of themselves..... The best name is; " catchit ". (as in cricket)

daftpunk · 20/10/2010 23:17

HH is mental.

G'night Smile

Leninghoul. I can understand you may see it as sneering, but I think it was the stupidty of the job advert. I say if you have seen things which my father saw (age 18, in Belsen) a few laughs at Irish jokes at his expense are piffling. Actually he had quite a few good ones about the English! That's why I try to get life into perspective and not take things to seriously. Smile
