Anti-Catholic feelings

StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 19:25

I'm pretty exhuasted right now with all the Anti-Catholic feeling on MN

A week never seems to go by without a thread about how Catholics should all feels ashamed about abuse (which we all do!) and how the Catholic Church should disband, that all Priests are kiddy fiddlers etc

Then, which really drives me mad, people with their threads about how to fake religion to get into Catholic school

There is now a thread about how frigging funny it is to see the Pope on a condom. I do wonder how funny people would find Mohammad on a sauasge... not very is my bet! Why can't respect for peoples religion be extended to Catholics?

I just wish people would understand that while noone feels that the RC church doesn't have a lot to apologise for it is not 100% rotten, the Pope isn't a Nazi and not every Priest signed up to spend time alone with little boys

DH thinks I should rise above it, but it hurts me! It has just made me cry seeing all the horrible things people have said about the church today.
Am I alone

I think you are confusing not using condoms, with not having sex, TwatthewWright
You can't catch aids or sexually transmitted infections if you only have sex with one partner (ie your spouse).

at last LynetteScavo.
why is that so difficult for people to grasp?

if you don't want to listen to the church on monogamy, sex outside marriage, one partner for life etc... then why listen on no condoms issue?

Bravo Lynnette!

The man is opposed to condoms for gods sake, he is a fool. How can anyone be opposed to condoms, they save lives.

And for the record, I don't believe that anyone is going to put his image onto a condom. I think one poster on the other thread said this. The memo said that the pope would launch branded condoms.

whydobirdssuddenlyappear · 25/04/2010 19:59

Oh Riven that's just awful . What's wrong with people?

LynetteScavo · 25/04/2010 20:03

Riven...really sorry to hear that.

StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:05

twatthew did you just follow me from your Pope bashing thread so you could continue on here?

OP posts:
TwatthewWright · 25/04/2010 20:06

Don't flatter yourself, this thread came up near the top on active convos.

onagar · 25/04/2010 20:07

StrictlyKatty, if it makes you feel it's any fairer I feel just the same about the religions followed, by Jews, Muslims, Baptists etc as I do about Catholics.

All are equally false and all the mainstream ones that I know of are a bad influence on people and society.

amidaiwish you said

Not bothered that children were and ARE being abused? Don't judge us by your own standards or lack of them.

And you just couldn't resist the urge to stick the boot in... again and again and again.

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:14

onagar I don't mind defending the Church and I really can take a joke about it. It's just when the same people just keep going on and on with their Catholic bashing without ever listening to any replies that it gets a bit much.

Even my FIL said to me the other day how the Pope 'must be a Nazi as he is German'. Yes, and 12 in 1940! I don't believe all Austrians keep their children in their basements, I don't believe all Japanese ran WW2 POW camps so why do all Germans have to be Nazi's?

LynetteScavo · 25/04/2010 20:14

Now this thread has turned quite horrid.

It's made me wonder if we need separate Catholic/CofE/Muslim/Jewish/Baptist/Methodist/Buddhist/Atheist,etc sections on Mumsnet.

which, of course, would just be quite wrong.

I am expressing my opinion as I have every right to do so. I have not been abusive, I have called anyone names and I have not told anyone to f** off.

I am pretty much a lone voice on hear but and you are quick to hone in on me and imply that I am doing something to you. I am doing nothing to you. I have strong views that differ from yours and I am expressing them.

I have repeatidly said that no-one is going to put the popes face on a condom, this idea came from one poster on another thread and yet people on hear are getting their knickers in a twist about it.

TwatthewWright · 25/04/2010 20:17

That should have said I have NOT called anyone names.

StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:18

This is the RELIGION section. I came on here to ask if I was the only person who DIDN'T want to take the p**s out the church.

Yet, here you are twattew...

OP posts:
onagar · 25/04/2010 20:20

The reason people think it's just their religion that gets criticised is that they don't notice or care when others are. That makes whining about "oh it's always ours!" very unattractive.

TwatthewWright · 25/04/2010 20:22

no it isn't - it's the Philosophy/Religion/Spirituality section

StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:23

I don't think we are the only ones, but I do feel that there has been a lot of Anti Catholic thread recently that have decended to a nasty level.

Can we not have some mutual respect?

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 25/04/2010 20:25

TwatthewWright, StricktyKatty stated in her OP she is exhausted with the anti-Catholic feeling on MN.

It's one of those threads where the OP is looking for support.

I don't see much point in any one posting if they aren't going to be supportive.

StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:28

Yes it is Twatthew, but that hardly makes in AIBU does it?

If I could find a place where I could put it where Catholicism could be talked about without the need for nasty comments then I would.

I attempt to defend my religion on every AIBU thread I see and also in Chat and In the News, however this one time I would like to relax a little bit and be told I am not the only one on here who feels like that I hoped this would be a section where people who actively disagree with the Catholic church might decide to show a little bit of respect for the views of those who do.

Alas I was wrong, Twatthew seems to feel no such respect.

OP posts:
StrictlyKatty · 25/04/2010 20:32

Thanks Lynette. I feel really needy I am happy to defend the church 99.9% of the time in all the threads I read. However, sometimes it does get a bit much and I was hoping for a tiny bit of support just to fel that I wasn't the only one on here!
