Do you believe in god?

i have recently been thinking a lot about religion and wondering how many believe in god and also what made you come to the decision of believing?

I started googling on lots of random sites. One was “what will god do on judgement day?”

Won’t apply to atheists (as we don’t believe in god) but what/how/when do Christians posters think?

I mean, I'm as open to the possibility that I'm wrong about there not being a God as I am open to things in general, but if I am and there is such a thing as a judgement day or an afterlife, at least I'll have my questions answered. Because if this hypothetical God sends me to hypothetical Hell for not believing in him, that proves that he's a monster. And if he doesn't and accepts that on the whole I've been a pretty decent if imperfect human being and that's good enough, I will graciously accept that I've been wrong (because hey, evidence!) and settle down in the hypothetical afterlife.

I would have thought the evidence would be available prior to the event?
When is it meant to be?

If you’re genuinely curious about what Christians believe, the Bible’s honestly a better starting point than random websites; you’ll get the actual source material rather than someone’s hot take. Hope that helps!

I believe in God. And my faith is very much a big part of my life.

I also believe in heaven and hell.

I believe in going to heaven by worshipping God only, not jesus. As God created Jesus. But I still believe and love jesus ❤️

I also believe in going to heaven by doing good deeds but doing them to be rewarded by God not by showing off to other people

When people say , how can there be a God and bad things happen.
Well, a man breaking into your house and stealing all your stuff is the man's fault. God has nothing to do with that. A woman screaming abuse and spitting at you in the street isnt anything to do with God. Thats her issue.
And with all the starvation going on, that's why in my religion it is a must for everyone who supports themselves through work to pay 2.5% of their annual salary on the poor.
And as for cancer and diseases, my youngest girl has a lifelong disease and its just one of those things that are part of life and we thank God for getting us through it.
Yes, it's painful and sad but its just these things happen.

That's for sure. No better way to get to know your God than to read his book of kindness. The ultimate moral guide. Take the book of numbers for example.

Num 31:14-18-" and Moses is angry against the inspectors of the force, chiefs of the thousands, and chiefs of the hundreds, who are coming in from the warfare of battle. And Moses says to them, "Have you kept every female alive? Behold , they have been to the sons of Israel, through the word of Balaam, to cause a trespass against YHWH in the matter of Peor, and the plague is in the congregation of YHWH. And now, slay every male among the infants, indeed, slay every woman knowing a man by the lying of a male; and all the infants among the women who have not known the lying of a male you have kept alive for yourselves." (LSV)

Nothing beats a slice of Genocide to go along with ones breakfast toast. And to set up the genocide, read this earlier bit, about mixed/mixed religion marriage .

Deu 7:3-4 " And you do not join in marriage with them; you do not give your daughter to his son, and you do not take his daughter to your son, for he turns aside your son from after Me, and they have served other gods; and the anger of YHWH has burned against you and has destroyed you quickly."

There is yet another reference to other Gods. This Bible god seems a bit paranoid or jealous. That can't be so though can it? Well he did say it himself.

Exo 34:14 "For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God:" (KJV).

Yes, I switched translations there.

Full of love.

So a challenge for Christians (again). Give a half dozen examples of good moral lessons given in the Bible.

Thank you 🌹
There's loads of similarities in islam and Christianity and its amazing. I was a Christian up until my mid 20s and then I reverted to islam after I met my husband.

He taught me so much about islam that in my mind it all clicked into place and I made my testimony (shahadah ) to become Muslim. Just to believe in One God only. Because the first commandment is of course, thou shall not have any other Gods than me

Before I had met him I had stopped attending church because I couldn't understand every single Sunday THANK YOU JESUS, WORSHIP JESUS, JESUS IS KING. And I used to feel like no its thank you holy father, worship only holy father and only holy father is King.
The bible indicates that jesus didnt want to to be worshipped. Jesus said: do not worship me revelation 22:9 as well as, do not put me higher than my father. And he says the father is greater than I, the father is greater than all. I used to start leaving church and thinking to myself how can JESUS be God and son of God. Like how! So, i left the church but still had the belief in my heart that there is God. One God.
And then when I met my husband he taught me Muslims also beleive in Jesus and that his mother the virgin Mary is very important in our faith, and Muslim women cover their hair like the virgin Mary and Muslims dont eat pork because its a dirty meat because pigs have diseases and eat their own poo. And the bible also says stay away pigs dont eat them and dont even go near them in the old Testament in leviticus.

So when he taught me about the oneness of God and believing in the prophets and angels, it was like a puzzle coming together. Plus all the scientific facts wirtten in the Quran blew my mind because 1400s ago there were no science labs and equipment to doscuss the planets, the earth shape, the water cycle, the formation of mountains, how a baby forms in the womb, the sun and the moon moving. I was like woahhhhh this has to come from a higher power, a man like Prophet Muhammed would not know this when it was relayed to him by the angel Jibreel.

And we beleive in all jesus miracles and he said himself in the bible I can do nothing of my own, only through him who sent me.
Jesus also prayed to the ground bowing like Muslims do.
Jesus was circumcised.
Jesus never touched alcohol or pork. Like Muslims. We beleive the water turned to wine was indeed a fruit wine. My beloved jesus would never touch booze.

He was a good man and a good prophet and we also beleive in his return on the end of days where he will kill the false messiah/the antichrist/ the dajjal and live his life on earth some time before returning back to God.

You cannot be a Muslim if you do not believe in Jesus, Adam, Noah, moses and the 10 commandments, Abraham etc all the way right down to prophet Muhammed. Peace be with them all.

The main difference in Christianity is that they say Jesus is God/son of God. But thr bible also says he is a prophet

But the bible clearly states something.
God cannot be a man. Numbers 23.19
Jesus is lesser than the angels hebrews 22.9. So he cant be God. Because God created the angels.
When jesus prayed he prayed to God, he didnt pray to himself.
Jesus clearly states I am returning back to my God and your God.
And lastly God cannot die on a cross. Naked and beaten and bleeding and going toilet down himself.
We believe that before they could put him on the cross, God lifted him to heaven to be with him until the end of days when he will return and he will descend down onto earth and pray to God after killing the antichrist.

So it is very interesting. I study religion comparison and find that there are so many amazing verses that mirror in both islam and Christianity than any other religion.
All my love to you ❤️

Thank you for sharing your framework and views. Obviously we have different scriptures to rely on (eg my Bible doesn’t have 22 chapters of Hebrews!), and reading verses in isolation can have its dangers, but I appreciate your views. It is great to see more diversity of view on this thread! I’m sure you’ll get lots of questions from others and it has been so Christian-centric that it is very welcomed to have representation from a different religion. Thank you!

Those verses seem to say anyone who worships can be saved - no reference to the day of judgement.

What will happen to Christians then, how, when is it happening to you?

Parker231 · 19/01/2026 08:04

Those verses seem to say anyone who worships can be saved - no reference to the day of judgement.

What will happen to Christians then, how, when is it happening to you?

Thanks for your question, and apologies for not answering before. I’m commuting to work so losing signal, but will try to set out as much as I can as quickly as possible.

Paul writes: “For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each of us may receive what is due us for the things done while in the body, whether good or bad” (2 Corinthians 5:10). He includes himself; all believers stand before Christ.

But this isn’t about whether we’re saved. Romans 8:1 is definitive: “There is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” Our salvation is settled by Christ’s finished work at the cross.

So what’s the judgment for - vindication and revelation. The judgment publicly reveals that our faith was genuine and we truly belonged to Him. First Corinthians 3:15 captures this: even when tested by fire, the believer “will be saved - even though only as one escaping through the flames.”

We stand before Christ not to determine our destiny (He secured that), but to have our lives laid bare - revealing the authenticity of our profession and vindicating God’s gracious choice of us.

When does this happen? After Christ’s return. The timing depends on whether a Christian is alive when He comes: If you die first: Philippians 1:23 - to be “absent from the body” is to be “present with the Lord.” This is viewed that your soul immediately goes to Christ, but your body awaits resurrection. When Christ returns, “the dead in Christ will rise first” (1 Thessalonians 4:16), you’re raised bodily, and then appear before His judgment seat. If you’re alive when He returns: “We who are still alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord” (1 Thessalonians 4:17). You’re instantly transformed (1 Corinthians 15:51-52) and appear before Him.

Either way, all believers stand before Christ’s judgment seat: when He returns in glory. Revelation 20:4-6 calls this the “first resurrection” of believers. I hope this helps provide a bit more colour on your query — and also the benefit of how the Bible is the source of answers for Christians on these points, which was why I referenced this.

Parker231 · 19/01/2026 08:53

So all Christians will disappear to heaven or hell regardless of whether they are alive or dead.

Am very pleased I’ll be left behind to continue with my life.

This has post has got another 100+ posts since I looked at it last and people were in discussion with others and it seemed well responded that I could offer no further input .

I mentioned this briefly earlier, but didn’t put my personal opinions.

For me Christianity is very real. Jesus before he departed he said that he would send his believers the promised comforter to help support them in their lives (John 14:26). This comforter can do many roles and they are the Holy Spirit and you receive this by being baptised of water and the spirit.

To help support you in your journey God can give you a spiritual gift and it is Jesus who manages his church and appoints the roles. I don’t know another faith where you are given spiritual gifts to help in your journey.

The Holy Spirit has many roles- helper, healer, protector, motivation, confidence, intercessor, advocate, strengthener, standby, comforter, counsellor, baptiser and a sanctifier. The Holy Spirit can also help you learn to care for yourself spiritually and also holistically.

They have helped me through this with gift and confirmed their presence by this and existence to me.

In this world I think most could do with a comforter to get through life. There is so much afflictions that people need support and not evil in behaviour is important like using evil to put spells on people etc . The Holy Spirit is a very real thing and it is God’s presence in the world in the spirit. People have their human spirit which can speak to God as we are made in his image, but the spirit can be blessed additionally with God’s Holy Spirit to allow communication with your spirit to the Holy Spirit which supports Jesus ministry.

I don’t think another faith has spiritual gifts or the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that resides within? They are in the Spiritual gifts are found in 1 Corinthians 12 and Romans 12 in the New Testament If this works they are clearly real then.
This video which is not too long 10 minutes about explains more about spiritual gifts.

So you beleive on judgement day, we will stand before Jesus and not the father?

All NRSVA translation

Matthew 25
',...for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, 36 I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.” 37 Then the righteous will answer him, “Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink? 38 And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing? 39 And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?” 40 And the king will answer them, “Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family,g] you did it to me.”

John 13

  • I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. 35 *By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.’

Deutoronomy 24:19
When you reap your harvest in your field and forget a sheaf in the field, you shall not go back to get it; it shall be left for the alien, the orphan, and the widow, so that the Lord your God may bless you in all your undertakings.

Micah 6
8 He has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

Colossians 3
12 As God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience. 13 Bear with one another and, if anyone has a complaint against another, forgive each other; just as the Lordf] has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. 14 Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. 15 And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.

I have no idea what that post is about. I post verses about " Go forth and genocide", and instead of replying to that, you post that ?

Or is that an attempt at my name 6 good morals in the Bible challenge ? If so, nah.

Thank you for your post. Christians believe in the Trinity, so there isn’t a contradiction. I’d love to know what your church’s teaching on the Trinity was when you were attending?

Christians believe in one God eternally existing as three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Not three gods, but one God in three persons. This, Christians believe, is clearly revealed in Scripture.

Jesus Himself declares His unity with the Father: “I and the Father are one” (John 10:30). He possesses all divine attributes - He’s called God (John 1:1, John 20:28), forgives sins (Mark 2:5-7), receives worship (Matthew 28:9, Philippians 2:10-11), and claims equality with God (John 5:18).

Jesus says: “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son, that all may honour the Son just as they honour the Father” (John 5:22-23). Why? Because Jesus became human. He lived among us, died for us, and rose again. He understands our humanity perfectly, yet remains fully God. Acts 17:31 says God “will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed” and then referring to Jesus’ resurrection as proof.

So when we stand before Jesus, we stand before God. To see Jesus is to see the Father (John 14:9). To be judged by Jesus is to be judged by God, because they share one divine essence. The Trinity means judgment by Christ is judgment by God - they are distinct persons but one in being, will, and purpose. I hope that explains a little of what Christians believe on this point; thank you so much for your question!

Doesn’t sound a good outcome for Christians. You’d be better staying behind with us atheists!
