No.

MrsSkylerWhite · 04/01/2026 23:17

No.
If it does exist, it’s inhumane.

PermanentTemporary · 04/01/2026 23:17

No, though I used to, and was open to the idea for a long time.

Seeing my husband suffer severe mental illness and dying by his own hand just made me unable to sustain the idea. There’s no peace in the concept that he suffered the way he did for so many years in a state where there was no question of choice or free will or anything like it. I fekt it would be inhuman to continue to think of the world as including any form of guiding or presiding presence.

No.

Unicorndreams24 · 04/01/2026 23:18

@OneMoreProfiterole Just out of interest why don’t you ? I’ve not been brought up with religion btw it’s jus something I’ve been reading into very recently x

Not at all.

Largestlegocollectionever · 04/01/2026 23:19

I’m not sure God…. But oneness, spirit, holy creator then yes - also angels, guides, spirits etc.

MJEBinAthens · 04/01/2026 23:19

Not God in the religious sense, but I think there’s some higher power even if it’s only nature… I can’t get my head around it just all being totally random.

Unicorndreams24 · 04/01/2026 23:19

@PermanentTemporary I am so sorry you’ve gone through that and that your husband suffered so much . 🩷. So this is also where I struggle when you’ve been through so much it’s hard to have faith in something that doesn’t feel close x

I am a practicing Buddhist since 2011.

I chant Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo to get protection from the Universe.

I read a book Buddha in Your Mirror, tried chanting for a month out of curiosity, quickly saw positive results and just carried on.

You can find more on pronunciation and meaning on SGI-UK website

Unicorndreams24 · 04/01/2026 23:21

@MJEBinAthens that’s how I also feel . I believe that there must be a creator because otherwise how did it all begin? Yeh very random!

One thing I don’t like is organised religion… All they are doing is playing with people’s fear of death! Be good…. Or rot in eternal hell!

walkingaroundsostrenegrene · 04/01/2026 23:25

I would love to believe in God again. This will probably sound bizarre, but I did something very unchristian ( I had an abortion - I was brought up as a Catholic and always believed it was a very grave sin). In order to live with what I'd done, I watched a lot of videos by atheists and managed to convince myself there wasn't a God. I'm not explaining myself very well, but I used to love the comfort believing in God gave me, but now - if I convince myself God exists again, I have to face the idea of being punished for what I did.

Unicorndreams24 · 04/01/2026 23:28

@MJEBinAthens yeh same . I don’t belong to any religion but as we’ve said I do believe in a creator . I see the books as a guide on how to live a good life .. oh I don’t know it’s so complex! I’ve also seen people devote their lives to a particular religion at the expense of their families etc . That I couldn’t do x

Whoa! I think you are being far too hard on yourself. Obviously you couldn’t go through with the pregnancy for whatever reason (not condoning or condemning your decision here)…. I think you should just have strength in your conviction and let it go. Stop beating yourself up about it. It happened….

ramonaquimby · 04/01/2026 23:40

I don't believe there are any gods
I believe in science!

How did it all begin?
Earth began about 4.6 billion years ago from a swirling cloud of dust and gas (the solar nebula) that collapsed under gravity, forming the Sun at its center and a flat, spinning disk of leftover material that clumped together, growing into the rocky Earth and other planets through collisions, eventually cooling enough for a crust to form, oceans to appear, and the Moon to form from a massive impact.

HTH.

Then, evolution.

Shitstix · 04/01/2026 23:41

Yes. But I don't think I'm very typical in that I believe in God, pray daily, but I've been to psyhics and believe people have had NDE.

It's organised religion that i think over time has turned people away.

ProblematicallyPorus · 04/01/2026 23:46

Yes, I believe in God.

ProblematicallyPorus · 04/01/2026 23:46

Yes, I believe in God.

Do you believe in Santa Claus?

CurlewKate · 04/01/2026 23:50

No.

Fibonacci2 · 04/01/2026 23:52

No, I can see why people do but judge them quietly. It’s all utter bollocks from a time before an understanding of science.

It’s caused nothing but hate and division.

Mrsnothingthanks · 04/01/2026 23:52

No. Hence why I didn't get married in a church as just one example. No way were we making promises to a God we don't believe in! Same for Christening our kids - hard no.

blankcanvas3 · 04/01/2026 23:53

No. I grew up catholic and am still ‘culturally catholic’ I would say but just as I got older I learnt more about science etc and it just doesn’t make sense to me anymore. To be fair to my priest at the time, he spent a lot of time with me trying to show me how science actually backs up the fact there is a god but my mind was made up. If there is a god of some sort, he’s evil, I truly believe that.

nowitsmetime · 04/01/2026 23:54

An energy yes as life comes from somewhere but a loving all powerful all knowing God no. There is a part of me that would love to as it must be a great comfort but when I see the cruelty and the suffering, I can't believe that the kind of God religion pushes can exist as surely they would intervene. Also a God with infinite power would have better things to do then make up petty rules and punishments, all that stuff is simply the creation of men.
