One Child a Day: Remembering Gaza’s Children

I’ll be using this thread to remember one child each day who has been killed in Gaza.

This isn’t for political debate, just a space to honour the names, faces, and stories that risk being lost in the noise. I’m here as I see this as a matter of human dignity and ethics, not just politics or conflict.

I kindly ask all political debate be kept to the many threads on the ‘conflict in the middle east’ board.

I’ll post one child per day, with whatever information is available- name, age, photo if possible, a sentence about who they were. Please feel free to follow quietly or respond with a candle 🕯️ or heart 💔.

If anyone else would like to post a child a day to remember, please feel free. I ask that posts stick to verified information, keep the tone respectful, and focus on remembrance rather than politics.

If this is too heavy, that’s entirely understandable. Please just scroll past.

I am finding this thread really distressing. All these beautiful children…… so much potential, so much joy in their smiles when they were alive.

🕯️ Sham Saeed Qudeih (17 months old)

Name: Sham Saeed Qudeih
Age: 17 months
Location: Deir al-Balah, Gaza Strip
Date of death: 6 May 2025
Cause of death: Killed in an airstrike on a school shelter, alongside her mother Aya and sister Jury

Born during the genocide in November 2023, Sham survived two brushes with death before her life was ultimately stolen. At just 10 days old, she was hospitalized with severe lung inflammation from smoke inhalation in a crowded school shelter. After 45 days in intensive care, she recovered- only to face a second life-threatening challenge: severe acute malnutrition caused by the blockade and starvation in Gaza.

Through months of care, nutritional support, and her mother’s determination, Sham regained her health. She was a playful, joyful toddler, filling her family’s days with hugs and laughter. But on 6 May 2025, airstrikes hit the very shelter she had once called home. Sham suffered catastrophic injuries and died after surgery. Her surviving sister, Judy, was left injured and without her mother or two siblings.
