One Child a Day: Remembering Gaza’s Children

I’ll be using this thread to remember one child each day who has been killed in Gaza.

This isn’t for political debate, just a space to honour the names, faces, and stories that risk being lost in the noise. I’m here as I see this as a matter of human dignity and ethics, not just politics or conflict.

I kindly ask all political debate be kept to the many threads on the ‘conflict in the middle east’ board.

I’ll post one child per day, with whatever information is available- name, age, photo if possible, a sentence about who they were. Please feel free to follow quietly or respond with a candle 🕯️ or heart 💔.

If anyone else would like to post a child a day to remember, please feel free. I ask that posts stick to verified information, keep the tone respectful, and focus on remembrance rather than politics.

🕯️ Nasser, Jumana, Ibrahim, and Muhammad Ihab Abu Shaaban (ages 5,6,10 and 13)

Location: Al Zeitoun, Gaza City
Date: October 17, 2025
Cause of death: Killed along with their parents when a tank shelled a minibus carrying two families who were trying to return home.

🕯️ Yasra Montasir (age 12)

Location: Gaza Strip
Date: October 14, 2023
Cause of death: Killed during attacks.

Yasra was a bright and kind 12-year-old whose biggest dream was to become a doctor helping the people of Gaza. On the morning of October 14, she told her father that she would quite like to be a bird in paradise. Just hours later, she was killed.

🕯️ Ahmed Ibrahim Washah

Location: Nuseirat refugee camp, Gaza Strip
Date: October 19, 2025
Cause of death: Killed alongside all of his family members.

Cause of death: Killed while playing with their cousins in their grandfather’s yard during airstrikes on Rafah.

Cause of death: Killed alongside his father when a tent sheltering displaced families in Deir al-Balah was struck by an airstrike.

Cause of death: Killed during attacks on Nuseirat refugee camp. Around 80-90 children from Nuseirat refugee camp were killed in various attacks, airstrikes, and bombardments that month.

Cause of death: Killed in an airstrike on their family home in Rafah, along with their parents, Hadeel Abu Alroos and Basil Al-Khayyat, and their siblings Muhammad and Mahmoud.

🕯️Olina Batroun
Age: 9 years old

Cause of death: Killed in a massacre in displaced persons’ tents.

Date: May 17, 2025
Cause of death: Burned alive along with his parents in a bombing of a displaced persons’ tent. He was named after his older brother who was killed in November 2023.

🕯️The Children of the Abu Amona Family

Location: Abasan Al Kabira, Khan Yunis
Date: May 14, 2025
Cause of death: Killed in an aerial bombardment that struck their home in Abasan Al Kabira. Multiple members of the Abu Amona family, including several children, were killed instantly.

🕯️Adam Ashour (less than 1)

Age: less than 1 years
Location: Al-Bureij Refugee Camp, Central Gaza

Date: May 2, 2025
Cause of death: Died from severe malnutrition and dehydration amid the siege-induced famine in Gaza. Reports indicate Janan was a previously healthy infant who succumbed after prolonged starvation conditions due to the blockade on food and medical aid.

🕯️Ayman Nassar Al-Haymouni (age 12)

Location: Al-Kasara, Hebron
Date: February 21, 2025
Cause of death: Shot by Israeli forces while standing near a family member’s house in Al-Kasara. The bullet struck him in the back, passed through his body, and lodged in his lungs. He died shortly after reaching the hospital.

Location: Jenin Refugee Camp, West Bank
Date: February 21, 2025
Cause of death: Shot by Israeli forces while standing in front of her home; the Palestinian Health Ministry and witnesses confirm she was killed by army gunfire.
