Which Gods do you have/are interesting in having a relationship with?

Obviously one for the theists here...which Gods/Goddesses do you have a current relationship with? Or want to get to know/develop a relationship?

Hekate is currently the sole deity that I am meditating upon and conversing with on a semi-regular basis (generally once a week.)

However, my prime interest is deities from Irish and Welsh pantheons, with a particular focus on certain Gods and Goddesses with particular skills and correspondences.

Manannan Mac Lir of the Irish pantheon has grabbed my interest (appears to be more or less the same deity as Manawydan in the Welsh pantheon.) I haven't yet done anything to develop a practice with him, but I'm hoping to as time goes on. There are other deities that catch my interest too.

An interesting thread.

As a hard polytheist of many years I’ve been working mainly with the Welsh pantheon along with one or two of the Irish.

Over the last couple of years, I’ve had some definite overtures from Hekate which I’ve been doing my best to ignore as I suspect she’ll want more than I’m prepared to offer at the moment. Maybe that will change in the future.

Has anyone else turned down an approach from a deity?

I’ve not yet turned down an approach from a deity myself; however there are some that I’m fairly confident I would say “no” to if they wanted a significant or ongoing relationship.

The Morrigan is a Goddess with whom I do not feel a desire to work or develop a close relationship. I’m not sure I would want to give commitment or effort towards her goals.

Loki is probably another one that I’d say “No thank you” to.

Yes I would probably swerve Loki as well. One Trickster in my life ( Gwydion) is quite enough.

I’ve had some dealings with The Morriigan but she is not part of my regular practice.

How have you found Gwydion and The Morrigan in your interactions?

Gwydion has the ability to be very helpful but in a totally unhelpful way!!

Nothing he gets involved in seems to be straightforward, and grumbling is likely to get the response of "Yes and?"or "well I never said it would be easy did I?"

I am currently undertaking a complex project with him involving Celtic Astronomy, the Mabignoni and the landscape with a bit of Coelbren thrown in for the fun of it!

The Mórrígan seems much more straightforward and she doesn't seem to employ the subtlety that Gwydion delights in.

How do you find Hekate? I find her sneaking into my life rather stealthily!

My experience of Hekate so far is that she seems down-to-earth and more or less a "straight-talker". She more or less communicated to me that as a deity of the dead, she couldn't exactly be uptight or necessarily easily offended.

I get the sense from her that she doesn't desire downright grovelling or "excessive" worship from people; I got what seemed to be a rather straightforward "Don't bow" from her. She's not the sort, in my experience to enjoy lording it over people.

I have the same sort of experience of Hekate. Down to earth, no messing.

However, I do find that she requires certain standards of behaviour and character of her devotees. She really put me through the mill before I ritually devoted myself to her, with weeks of introspection and meditation beforehand, reviewing every aspect of my life and misdeeds, even ones I'd forgotten about or minimised. It was brutal.
But then came the message “Go, and do better.”

Interesting to read - glad that you have some similar experience. Makes it that more likely that it's not all just a product of my imagination - which I don't believe it is, but there's often a bit of self-questioning/doubt about some of my experiences.

With Hekate, I don't have the intention to become an official devotee, so perhaps she's less concerned with requesting particular standards. I do think that the Gods can also adapt and change their requirements/behaviour, etc, according to who they are interacting with. Much as people show different faces or sides to themselves depending on the environment (we'd show a different side in a casual setting around friends to a professional work environment) I think it's plausible that deities might do the same.

I think they definitely do. They adapt as necessary.

I work with one who was known to have a child sacrifice practice associated with him. He is now happy to settle for steak and Guinness ( or resigned to it more likely!).

I’m still very much on the fence with Hekate. Maybe an acquaintanceship but I really can’t commit to anything like the relationship I suspect she wants. At least not yet.
