Hi, everyone. We are pleased to introduce this new board dedicated specifically to discussions around the Christian faith. Many of you have expressed the desire for a space where you can talk about your beliefs in a more focused and mutually respectful environment. We want to honour that while maintaining the open, thoughtful discussions Mumsnet is known for!

To be clear, this board is not intended to be an echo chamber or to shut down critical discussions. Honest questions, debates, and differing perspectives are welcome, as long as they are respectful. However, what we aim to avoid is dismissiveness, mockery, or hostility toward others' beliefs. This is a board where Christian Mumsnetters should feel comfortable exploring and expressing their faith while engaging with others who may share different views.

We hope you enjoy your new board and do let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Does it not show in active? That's what gets all the vitriol.

Sample thread "I'm looking for ways to enrich my prayer life". Sample answer "you're stupid for praying to a god that doesn't exist. You should believe in science instead"

I like the philosophy and religion board. I don't mind that we are in with witches and woo. I will use the new board though. Thanks.

What a nice surprise!

Jabtastic · 17/10/2024 22:18

It popped up in Active but I hope it remains a respectful space for people 🙏 I'm somewhere between Unitarian and cautiously peeking at Christianity again after some very unhappy experiences when younger. Hopefully this board will be a welcoming place for those interested in faith!

I'd never heard of Unitarian. I flit between c of e Christian and agnostic so it's interesting to find something that describes the middle of the two of these! X

@onetwothreehello

Whilst I enjoy posting and reading a lot of the threads on this board it can be difficult to have discussions that are primarily about aspects of the Christian faith. Often we are left defending simply being a Christian and what it entails to believe (from a personal perspective) to unbelievers.

Good luck with this. I remain sceptical that it'll be free from offensive atheists informing us that we're all brainless dolts.

Hopefully, Christians will be free to talk about the faith without the usual tedious 'imaginary friend' and 'sky fairy' type comments. Christians deserve that right on a board created for them.

Some people think they're soooo original when they come out with these lines. The comments are right up there with 'is this the 1950s' when a woman takes her husband's surname, (or chooses to be a stay-at-home-mum,) and 'are you on glue,' did you mean to be so rude,' and 'you sound young OP.'

Proper patronising, mocking comments, but hilariously over-used. Often posted by the posters who are the most hard of thinking, narrow-minded, and not terribly bright.

Well said.

thank you for trying MNHQ.
Let's hope the Moderators still with what you have put in your opening post.

thank you @MNHQ 👍💕

It will be nice to (hopefully) be able to chat without the usual mockery / vitriol to which Christians are often subjected.

I was brought up a Catholic and actually enjoyed my religion... fun convent school and I loved the mysticism of it all. However my life is too busy for me to go to mass regularly and my one BIG regret is that I didn't bring up my children in the faith. ( they're baptised and one did their first Holy Communion but that's it. ) I really feel they are missing out on an extra dimension as it were, but feel it's too late now ( they are older teens)
Does anyone else feel this?

It’s never too late 😊

I was/am guilty of the same thing, allowing a busy life to get in the way. My teen is baptised Catholic and had his First Holy Communion.

I talk to him about God and religion, even when life has been too busy to attend Mass.

He still feels he is Catholic, even though we are not the most regular church-goers. I think keeping the conversation alive helps. Good luck 😊

‘I tell you, if anyone openly declares himself for me in the presence of men, the Son of Man will declare himself for him in the presence of the angels. But the man who disowns me in the presence of men will be disowned in the presence of God’s angels.’

Sausagenbacon · 24/10/2024 17:42

Thank you, that's a great idea

@101jobs
My daughter probably doesn't even know the Our Father and if she per chance does, it'll be the Anglican version with the bit at the end!!
