Has God ever just answered a prayer that you needed so badly?

Dh a do have been going through a terrible time with an incident that happened in work 5 years ago. It was a horrendous, difficult time. My husband was basically suicidal. Although this was such a time of trial, Gods hand was always upon us, guiding us even tho we didn't see it, and to us the days still seemed dark. After lots of prayer and years worth of worry we got a solicitor letter (out if the blue) basically withdrawing any wrong doing ir any allegations , on the same day that DH received a job offer from a dream job opportunity. We have received multiple, countless blessing that have come at EXACTLY the right time. It has been incredibly difficult yet incredibly comforting that God has always guided us through our trials and made things possible that just wouldn't have been so without intervention. Today we have received another wonderful blessing.

If God exits he’s a fucking nasty bastard. The so called Christian’s I’ve known have also been nasty bastards. Count me out.

Why have you come onto a thread on the religion branch then?

Shitfather · 05/02/2023 01:05

Apologies if my post came across as critical. I was just sharing my experience of prayer.

Yes, numerous times. Mainly through me rattling through decades of the rosary though.

So you are more powerful than God then?

As a psychologist and ex-spiritual seeker myself, and more significantly as an experienced life coach for almost 20 years now, I have witnessed how contemplating life in terms of God can turn into one of the most damaging thought patterns an individual can engage in.

I have sadly seen countless times now the damage that this pattern does to a person’s psyche, to a person's ability to genuinely overcome the problems and limitations in their life, and ultimately to their entire existence, as the pattern unwittingly grows and consumes them over time.

Now when confronted with people displaying this pattern, I strongly urge them to start detaching from these kind of thoughts, and to stop framing life in terms of “God” and “God’s will”, and whether they can have some sort of relationship with him or not, etc. The only thing that they should be cultivating faith in is their ability and commitment to never stop looking for the answer to whatever problem or limitation they are experiencing in their life, that has led them to turn to the notion of "God" in the first place.

Yes, the Fucker died!

Yes absolutely many times in my life I've had prayers answered. The main one was at 39 I was diagnosed with ms with no differential diagnosis, roaring and crying in that hospital bed I realised I had nothing to cling into except God. I begged to be upheld by his right hand and spoke to the chaplain. It brought me back to faith. It took a year to lose the diagnosis and instead be diagnosed with complex neuro problems including hemiplegic migraines.

God has never ever let me down x

Can I ask why God answered your prayer, and not those of thousands of other equally deserving people who prayed that day, in equally or even more distressing circumstances?

It's something that I just can't get my head round. Why you and not the mother whose child died that day despite her prayers? Why not the prayers of all those people whose loved ones died of cancer that day? Why you?

I married into a wonderful family. They're all Christians, and they frequently come out with this kind of thing. How God answered their most recent prayers. They are so confident in that.
I daren't ask them that question. They're very respectful of my lack of faith, and I respect theirs. I don't really want to rock the boat in that regard, as I love them, and they love me.

So yes, if you don't mind, could you answer it for me?

So why has god let so many others down?

Deaths, child sexual assault, childhood cancer, infertility, and everything else. Not being goady, just wondering why he picks and chooses and why he's absolutely answered you many a time but let so many helpless children die slow and painful deaths or suffered.

If he does exist I don't really like the bloke if he's going to help one person out many times and leave others to fend for themselves in utter desperation.

I’m in another very difficult situation. I’ve asked God for clarity through my tears. None has been forthcoming. When I tell this people, they say but God carried you. I feel utterly alone and helpless. I can no longer bring myself to beg through prayer as I think a just God doesn’t require us to beg. He’d just know we were in pain.

Are you giving no credit to the doctors and medical professionals who cared for you?

SarahC50 · 13/05/2023 16:51

@Parker231 no I'm certainly not giving credit to the doctor who misdiagnosed me with ms and had me nearly leaving my family as I didn't want to be a burden

But surely God also made this happen?
