Has God ever just answered a prayer that you needed so badly?

Dh a do have been going through a terrible time with an incident that happened in work 5 years ago. It was a horrendous, difficult time. My husband was basically suicidal. Although this was such a time of trial, Gods hand was always upon us, guiding us even tho we didn't see it, and to us the days still seemed dark. After lots of prayer and years worth of worry we got a solicitor letter (out if the blue) basically withdrawing any wrong doing ir any allegations , on the same day that DH received a job offer from a dream job opportunity. We have received multiple, countless blessing that have come at EXACTLY the right time. It has been incredibly difficult yet incredibly comforting that God has always guided us through our trials and made things possible that just wouldn't have been so without intervention. Today we have received another wonderful blessing.

@AnorLondo Do you know why? Have you looked into the possible reasons? I'm not part of the CofE btw.

MooseAndSquirrelLoveFlannel · 18/01/2023 19:52

Well, he let my sister die and my nephews be orphaned but yeah, glad he sorted out your husbands employment.

Glad to see he is really concentrating on the important stuff.

IIRC It's basic argument was that it was the state religion so "changing" marriage to something it didn't like undermined it as the state religion. And all thr usual homophobic arguments. Thankfully it passed anyway.

Bruuuuhhhh · 18/01/2023 20:15

I meant more about SS marriage in church than opposing a change in law @AnorLondo .

Church of England ministers can not carry out or bless same-sex marriages, but your local church is still there for you. At any time you are welcome to come and pray with us, or ask us to pray for you. You might just need space for yourself to pray – some churches or cathedrals are left open at certain times so anyone can go in.
If you need a place to connect with God, worship, give thanks and join others in learning about the Christian faith, you will be very welcome at your local church.

From the CofE's website. The church does support and respect same sex marriage and the door doesn't shut on anyone.

But it won’t marry them.

Bruuuuhhhh · 18/01/2023 21:10

@Parker231 Correct, for valid reasons within the Christian community. I'm surprised you friends didn't understand this.

They hoped after a five year consultation period that the CoE would have done the right thing.

Rockingcloggs · 18/01/2023 21:17

No, but Dr Shakur and his team of nurses and embryologists at Care Fertility used science to do what God couldn't be arsed to do ie stop killing my babies in the womb!

The "right thing" is quite subjective in this case.
It looks like the OP isn't coming back to their thread but at any rate I don't think this is particularly helpful dialogue.

@Parker231 @AnorLondo @faretheewell

Some of the reasons I was talking about -

Bruuuuhhhh · 19/01/2023 12:31

Are you the poster who keeps coming back to push that horrible homophobic organisation?

Bruuuuhhhh · 19/01/2023 14:08

@AnorLondo Nope, not guilty, and if you actually read the articles you'll see they're not homophobic - some are written by gay or lesbian Christians.

@AnorLondo Nope, not guilty, and if you actually read the articles you'll see they're not homophobic - some are written by gay or lesbian Christians.

You can be homophobic and gay. They promote the idea that homosexuality is wrong and that gay people should either be celibate and single their whole lives or marry someone of the opposite sex. It's disgusting.

Bruuuuhhhh · 19/01/2023 14:17

@AnorLondo I'm bisexual and disagree.

AnorLondo · 19/01/2023 14:36

Bruuuuhhhh · 19/01/2023 14:17

@AnorLondo I'm bisexual and disagree.

Your sexuality is irrelevant. They are a homophobic organization.

Bruuuuhhhh · 19/01/2023 14:42

It's hugely relevant, I am not homophobic towards myself.

Again, you can be gay or bisexual and homophobic. If you believe homosexuality is wrong and that gay people should be celibate or marry the opposite sex, that is homophobic.

saraclara · 19/01/2023 14:59

So god gave a 91 yr old lady a few more weeks to live and a man a good job whilst deciding my friend’s much loved baby should die.

I love my very religious in law relatives dearly. But this is where I find their belief in prayer and in God being responsible for anything good happening to them, quite difficult to respond to.

I want to ask them why God considers their prayers more worthy of answering than someone else's. I simply can't picture a God sifting through the prayers sent to him and deciding who's worthy. And I certainly can't conceive of a God who would put a few weeks of life for a 91 year old ahead of saving a baby.

I do find myself praying under stress. But I recognise that it's more of a talking therapy than me thinking that I'm more worthy than someone else of His intervention.

Oh. I see the thread has moved on to a different subject.

No, again, I do not have an irrational fear or hatred of homosexual people.
As I said before, this is unhelpful and you've predictably resorted to name calling.

Emmamoo89 · 19/01/2023 15:09

Nope because he's not real

Well done for responding to what the thread was originally all about! 😆The usual anti-christians have come out in force I'm afraid.

I never said you do. I haven't called you any names.

TheaBrandt · 19/01/2023 15:20

Must be amazing to have faith but no I don’t. When I worked in the City there were many greedy selfish bastard lawyers but my lovely friend walked away from the big money (despite being excellent at her job) to retrain to as human rights lawyer to help the most desperate refugees - yet she was the one who died in agony from cancer at 43. Not sure what the plan there was.

Sweetnsourtoday · 19/01/2023 16:37

My little boy said yesterday when I was driving, God picks the most beautiful flowers for himself, that's why he took grandad. It came from nowhere and I didn't know how to respond.

I must admit I do pray despite having a science degree and that's because I need to, it's something I always did and will do. I never expect prayers to be answered and I suppose as someone else said it's like a talking therapy.

I also find the "miracles" that are documented, intriguing and I do think there are things we can't fully explain.

When it comes to people dying, especially children, I find that very hard to understand and process.

OP it's nice you had that experience and I'm happy for you.
