Has God ever just answered a prayer that you needed so badly?

Dh a do have been going through a terrible time with an incident that happened in work 5 years ago. It was a horrendous, difficult time. My husband was basically suicidal. Although this was such a time of trial, Gods hand was always upon us, guiding us even tho we didn't see it, and to us the days still seemed dark. After lots of prayer and years worth of worry we got a solicitor letter (out if the blue) basically withdrawing any wrong doing ir any allegations , on the same day that DH received a job offer from a dream job opportunity. We have received multiple, countless blessing that have come at EXACTLY the right time. It has been incredibly difficult yet incredibly comforting that God has always guided us through our trials and made things possible that just wouldn't have been so without intervention. Today we have received another wonderful blessing.

Ah, cheers God for giving a kid a friend on the bus. Did the one from the 29yo mum of three I looked after in hospital last year as she was dying from stage 4 cancer get moved to your Junk folder?

TIA

Yes, so many times!

So much unnecessary nastiness. If you don't agree, feel free to move on, I won't be engaging further with the hatred.

Sure love. We all have to live with religion and god on a day to day basis. We can't just walk away from it we have to 'respect' it. Fuck know why.

Radio silence in response to people questions the bad things then. Not one of the devout god lover on here explaining why he answers some specific prayers but chooses not to answer:

Childhood cancer
Sexual assault victims
People who have been murdered
Milllions of children in poverty
Child rape
Sex trafficking
Burying a child

(I'll await the typical response of 'free will'..)

But he absolutely did answer someone's prayer of someone's senile relative surviving a little longer than she should've done and it absolutely wasn't down to the doctors and nurses. Aye okay then.

Aside from this and creating job offers he also very very busy ensuring footballer and basketball players prayers are answered. They are millionaires so he's probably working out where his best investment is.

All those people you mentioned.... not worth it mate.

goldennotyetoldie · 18/01/2023 08:22

No. My little brother died anyway. Despite lots of people praying for him.

I don't believe in god now.

I've always felt there was an air of narcissism from many atheists. Not people who are agnostic, because admitting you don't know or have all the answers seems perfectly rational to me. But outright saying you don't believe in God, seems arrogant to me. Maybe it's because I've seen so many arseholes on threads like these who think it's acceptable to mock people for believing in anything. Heck, not just online but even in public.

Plenty of stupid and narcissistic religious people too of course. But it's really easy to see in many who are all 'there is no god and I thumb my nose at people who believe in anything greater than the almighty me'. And I've met far more people like that than I have religious bigots.

There is nothing narcissistic or arrogant about asking for the proof that something exists and that proof lacking, then saying 'I don't believe you then'. Atheism is the normal state of affairs.
There are thousands of gods or deities believed in around the world. You are an atheist about one less god than me.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 18/01/2023 09:22

Yes. But I try to pray for the strength to accept God’s will, rather than implore a specific outcome.

That has been answered.

How's Christianity personally affecting you then? @BoganKiwi

Makes perfect sense if that God is against homosexual practices.

That's a big if, especially since many churches do have equal marriages.

Parker231 · 18/01/2023 12:28

The Church of England not backing gay marriages is disgusting - there is no other way to explain it!

StarInTheHeavens · 18/01/2023 12:39

No, my prayer hasn't been answered. I stopped believing.

Why the need for the same across the board then? A tiny minority of Christians identify as LGBT and could get married in these churches if they wish. For non Christian LGBT people there is

Maybe they don't belong to that particular denomination? And the Church of England is the state religion, that it is able to legally discriminate is ridiculous.

@AnorLondo Not a great deal between the Protestant denominations and a lot of Christians do swing between them.
I don't see what relevance the Church of England being the state religion has on same sex marriage within church.

MBM · 18/01/2023 13:13

Pray with all your heart. But it is best if God's will prevails. Careful what you wish for.

Well said. Luke 22 - And he withdrew from them about a stone's throw, and knelt down and prayed, 42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.” 43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him. 44 And being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.

Load of rubbish

Rickandmortified100 · 18/01/2023 14:04

It’s so sad that there are people lurking the Philosophy and Religion thread just to attack people who want to talk about their religion. It happens on so many threads. Funny also how it’s normally the same people who accuse Christians of shoving religion down peoples throats literally seeking out Christians on threads started by Christians to talk to other Christians and then acting as if the Christians are the pushy ones… just for being Christian in the first place. Half of me wants to laugh but it’s genuinely quite upsetting.

For some there is a very big deal, especially if it means they can't get married in their own church.

And the relevant of it being a state religion means it enjoys certain political advantages and is supposed to be a church for everyone, so it is especially egregious when it blatantly discriminates.

I don't agree and being a "church for everyone" and conducting same sex marriages isn't the same thing. Anyway, this hasn't got anything to do with the original post, which was about prayer.
