Was just coming here to say the same BlankTimes! Vetiver is probably my favourite EO. So comforting Halloween Smile I find these online recipes a bit hit and miss but I wonder about the ‘winter forest’ one here? I don’t have pine/fir oil but have substituted cypress for similar effect in other blends

Aerwyna · 30/12/2020 12:00

P.s I’ve made the mistake in the past of buying cheaper EO’s and many of them aren’t as good. For vetiver I think the freshskin one is good. speakout previously shared a link

I also like this supplier

Aerwyna · 30/12/2020 12:18

Also (you’ve piqued my interest!) I’m just thinking that I made a rollerball blend for comfort and protection that was quite earthy/woody that you might like Hills

I used:
15 drops neroli
15 drops clary sage
20 drops vetiver
7 drops cedarwood

In a 10ml roller ball bottle topped up with sweet almond oil.

Handy for using on pulse points when you’re out and about

Hi all - thanks for the shiny new thread speakout!

Like many of you, the upcoming full moon has set me in an organising frenzy and I've spent the morning sorting digital files out and making a bit of a plan for the next month and year at large. I feel strangely, perhaps timidly, optimistic about 2021.

I'm particularly excited about the full moon tonight. I'm going to collect some moon water - no idea how to use it, any suggestions? Any other full moon ritual ideas? I always have grand plans and then forget - but I remembered to mark this one in my calendar!

I watched a lovely film on Netflix last night,
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. Nothing witchy - but it was a lovely piece of well shot escapism about the power of books and I thought it might resonate with some of you.

HillsBesideTheSea · 30/12/2020 15:46

Thank you Aerwyna and BlankTimes very useful information. I have never worked with oil blends before only pure one ingredient essential oils. So that is a new adventure. I will investigate later. Thank you again.

moregarlic going to be honest I feel the pull of the moon but don't get so excited as my cycle has synced so my period occurs at the full moon and it is hard for me to balance my person energy low with the higher energy of the moon phase.

Does anyone else have a rather enthusiastic tarot deck? I find the energy of my everyday witch deck playful but demanding I listen and often have cards jump out when i am doing a draw. I was attempting an annual spread with one card for each month and 1 for the year. I have 3 months where i have ended up with 2 cards for this reason. But the card combinations that jumped were interesting. two of pentacles with the king of wands. the lovers with the 3 of pentacles, and the four of cups with the page of cups. There were other months where the cards jumped but those came out as single cards. Gonna be an interesting year that is for sure. Interestingly enough the other deck i have which has a more powerful feel to it does not tend to jump cards out at me for attention very often or in the same way. clearly over thinking this

Elphame · 30/12/2020 16:12

I'd probably use a mix of cedarwood, frankincense, patchouli and some sandalwood.

I love it when cards jump from the pack! They are invariably right on the money!

No snow to speak of down here so I don't see any snow magic in my immediate future unfortunately. It is cold though. I have a nice walk planned with friends tomorrow which is a replacement for our usual NYE get together. We haven't missed a year since 1987 so it will be really strange to have a quiet night in.

I'll use the time to make plans for 2021. I am taking up metalworking (DP gave me a forge as my Christmas gift) which is way outside my skill set so it'll be a steep learning curve, Should be good fun though and it'll be put to good magical use.

What plans does everyone else have?

speakout · 30/12/2020 17:49

Just warm wishes to everyone tonight, I have been bound up in my borrow for a few days now, just having a little hibernate.
We have had a lot of snow in the past few days, and been snowing heavily today too, so cold it hasn't had a chance to melt.
Sorry I haven'y caught up with the thread.
I am planning another night curled up under my snuffledown.

No snow here either, but it's very old. Like others, I've been enjoying the clear skies today.

Aerwyna I'm glad you're pleased with your diffuser. I love mine and enjoy experimenting with different blends. My current favourite is lemon, orange, peppermint and rosemary. The full moon meme made me laugh... I can definitely relate to that!

Moregarlic I use moon water for sprays, either for smudging or for fragrance, or for cleaning. You could also add it to a special bath.

Hills my Every Day Witch tarot deck is just the same, very lively. I love it!

Elphame like you, I'm planning a walk for NYE. I have a ritual on NYE where I take down the Christmas decorations and clean the house thoroughly to sweep out the old. I open all the windows to let fresh air in and smudge the whole house. I usually do myself a tarot spread for the year ahead and make plans for the year ahead. I always tend to spend NYE at home as my dog gets scared by the fireworks.

Speakout I hope you're warm and cosy at home. I bet the snow is beautiful.

sweetkitty · 30/12/2020 23:54

I’m loving all your NYE traditions, as I’m very new to this. As I’m Scottish NYE has some old traditions definitely the cleaning of the house, the opening of the doors and windows before midnight to let out the bad air and lay the new air and luck in. Scrubbing the hearth and front step clean. First footing, tall dark and handsome of course bringing a gift of whisky (so you always have something to drink), shortbread or clootie dumpling (do you always have something to eat and a lump of coal (so you always have something to put on the fire. Then songs and a toast to those who have gone before. I think even the ringing of the bells has something to do with sending or keeping the demons or bad luck in the previous year?

I might take the decorations down tomorrow or the 1st and have a good clean.

It’s supposed to snow again tonight and with the full moon it looks lovely. I’ve put my crystals outside and collected some snow is that the same as moon water?

I would love to get myself a set of tarot cards too any recommendations? I know they are quite personal?

speakout · 31/12/2020 07:11

I am loving all the descriptions of New Year too.
New Year was always huge in Scotland, I remember all the customs too, laying out a table with black bun, my mother going crazy cleaning, first footers- no one was allowe in before midnight- had to be carrying a lump of coal.
Will be quite different this year!
Scotland developed a huge new year tradition because christmas was banned for almost 400 years by the church, it was considered too pagan and people were arrrested for celebrating Yule. It only became a public holiday here in the 1950s.
So New year was the only way of celebrating midwinter for a long time- and the tradition remains.
It has been snowing heavily overnight again here, and still bitterly cold. A thick blanket of snow still covers everything.
It will be a strangely quiet night for all of us this year, no parties, no revellers.
I plan an early night tonight and an early start with a new 30 day yoga workshop.
In the meantime work calls

Happy Hogmanay everyone!

SweetKitty and Speakout New Year in Scotland sounds so much fun, I love hearing about all the traditions. I hope you're both keeping warm and enjoying the snow.

It's cold and frosty here today. I'm working, but will go out at lunchtime for a walk with my dog. In previous years I've been down to the coast in NYE/NYD. Unfortunately this is not allowed this year, so will head to the forest instead.

SweetKitty a few of us have the Everyday Witch tarot deck. They're perfect for when your starting out and the imagery is lovely.

queenrollo · 31/12/2020 11:37

My Everyday Witch deck is also a lively one, and yes cards often jump out at me.
I have several decks and this is the one I use most. I had an immediate connection to its energy which has never happened with the others I have.

I am sad that we can't be with our friends this NYE as planned, having stuck to the rules completely I was hopeful of just this one night - but it isn't to be. And as it turns out I have a sinus infection now so actually an early night is probably best! I think I will raid the freezer/cupboards and try and make a special dinner though.

speakout · 31/12/2020 12:07

Another vote for The Everyday Witch Tarot here.
I have quite a few decks, but since buying this one it quickly became my absolute favourite and now use it almost to the exclusion of any other deck- I love it.

A quiet day here- braved Tesco, it was so crowded, it felt very uncomfortable.

Tonight we are having Spicy braised tofu- a Korean dish by Maangchi, so tasty- my tofu is already being pressed in towels.

sweetkitty · 31/12/2020 12:41

Oh I’m off to google the Everyday witch tarot.

It’s just stopped snowing here started about 9 so a fair lot has fallen, don’t think I’ll brave driving in it, the younger DCs want to go out sledging again so I’ll do that after lunch.

We’re having Chinese takeaway tonight Blush that’s become a tradition they do a lovely tofu in garlic and black bean sauce and I think I must be the only one who orders it in the town as they don’t even ask our address anymore.

If you look for the everyday witch tarot cards on eBay you might find them a lot cheaper than Amazon. I've just ordered a deck for £8. May turn out to good to be true though!

Elphame · 31/12/2020 18:25

Lots and lots of counterfeit tarot decks on ebay, particularly the popular ones like the Wildwood Tarot. Fingers crossed you have a real one.

I'd like everyone to join me in a glass of champagne to celebrate the back of 2020 and the really important reason - my birthday Cake Wine. The neighbours are already setting off fireworks in my honour Wink

I had a lovely walk with friends from Marlborough to Avebury and the real treat of a cup of hot chocolate at the NT cafe which was open for takeaway

speakout · 31/12/2020 18:36

Happy Birthday Elphame 🥂

Your walk sounds lovely. Avebury is one of my favourite places and I try to go every year (except this year!) I follow the Henge Shop Facebook page and they posted a fabulous photo this morning of the frost, all white and glistening.

I'll raise a mug of Gunpowder Tea to you, I've started the recipe you gave me today for Gunpowder Whisky. Even in it's just put in the Kilner Jar state, it's an interesting taste. I used a heaped teaspoon of Aldi's Forest Honey, so far it's earthy and smoky, fingers crossed those are the flavours that develop. I'l let you know in a few months! Halloween Grin
