A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration.

I am up and drinking tea in the knowledge that I shall not be interupted by anyone. My son will not run into the room and put the TV on!
A peaceful breakfast is a remarkable thing.

Last night was wonderful and just what I (actually, we) needed.

speakout · 23/07/2020 08:15

queenrollo Lovely!! I am having a peaceful breakfast too. OH has gone to work, everyone else still asleep. Just finished my yoga session, and put some wax on to melt- ( rose candles this morning).

We have had torrential rain all night and it is still raining very heavily this morning. I have the doors open, such sweet fresh air, the sound of birdsong and rain.
We have to carve out these moments and savour every second- they are ephemeral.

It was short lived! About 15 mins after that they returned home.

Oh well, I'm still grateful for having a calm easing into my own day.
I am watching lots of older Bealtaine Cottage videos at the moment as I find they are very soothing.

Now, I have to blitz clean the kitchen. The roofers will be here soon and my peace (such as it is with a 7 year old boy in residence) will be shattered.

Blessed day to you all x

Elphame · 23/07/2020 13:49

What a lovely sculpture YasmisChrone Glad she arrived safely

Life meanders on here - I'm having the first real life meet up with some witchy friends on Friday. I can't wait! Internet chats are not the same.

VioletCharlotte · 23/07/2020 14:07

Elephame
I hope you have a lovely time! I know exactly what you mean, I really missed real life contact too. I've had a couple of meet ups now with like-minded friends, I feel so much better for it.
*
Speakout and Queenrollo* lovely to read about your relaxing starts to the day. A break from our loved ones now and again does everyone the works of good.

I'm on the train to magical Cornwall to spend a few days with a friend. I'm really enjoying the journey, so much beautiful scenery. Really looking forward to some female company and a break from work.

Devlesko · 23/07/2020 21:07

Hi, I hope I can join you all. I did post a few threads back but wasn't really ready.
For much of my adult life I've denied my abilities, brushed them off as coincidences and been encouraged to forget about it.
As a child I was intuitive and could see into the future.
I'm Romany gypsy and tbh whilst some of us practice witchcraft and read cards, tea leaves and palms, just like the rest of society do, most despise the practice and see it as encouraging stereotypes and racism.
So, it's been quite a battle to get to this point, and whilst I can remember hearing about old practices have never really done them much before.
Anyway, I decided to open up and already I'm seeing different things and whilst I'm not jumping straight away at every coincidence, I'm not claiming all my experiences are coincidental anymore.
Starting tarot again was funny, almost like starting again as although the meanings haven't changed interpretation is much more indepth/ mature from the teen.

Ogress · 24/07/2020 07:07

Welcome @Devlesko 👋

Thanks for passing on that music recommendation @VioletCharlotte. I used it for my morning yoga today and really enjoyed it. Everyone's posts about yoga have inspired me to pick it up again, but I'm easing my clicky, inflexible body into it slowly. I'm starting each day with 5-15 minutes of sun salutations. It's too soon for me to be getting much out of it mentally (it takes me months of regular yoga before that happens) but I'm a week in and can nearly touch my toes!

Have a great day all.

speakout · 24/07/2020 07:12

Elphame I hope you have a great evening tonight.
VioletCharlotte enjoy your well deserved break I hope it restores you.
Devlesko lovely to see you again, glad you came back. You can use this thread in any way you wish, post infrequently, just read, or post as much as you like .
You make an important poiknt about stereotypes and racism, witchcraft or didination has become something to be despised and feared, and unfortunately used against groups of people that use these practices.
That's part of the reason I feel motivated to even reclaim the word witch.
The word is often used as an insult, "evil witch", "ugly witch", meaning someone with a bad temperament or hostile attitude.
I proudly call myself a witch. Most people are very accepting and extremely curious- apart from those in my immediate family!!

I am glad it is Friday, things openinng up a bit here which will take the pressure off family tensions.
M mother is having her hair done at the hairdressers, DD is meeting a friend at a restaurant for dinner in the city, and I have booked a table at a local restaurant for DS and I this evening.
Off for a spa shower and yoga before I start work.

Have a blessed day everyone.

Ogress x post!

Good to hear you are enjoying your yoga practice. Do you use a video?
I normally go to a class, but there are some fantastic teachers on youtube, many for beginners/returners, and lots of short 5-10 minute practices too.
How is your partner? Feeling a little stronger I hope.

Devlesko · 24/07/2020 11:11

You are all very active with the Yoga, it's something I've never tried and I'm not very flexible. I do need to find something to relax me though, as even though it's great to be up when everyone else is asleep my laptop just keeps me awake all night and doing anything remotely noisy will wake the sleepers.
I love the immediate family comment, mine are the same and quite often I'm met with eye rolls. They are getting better though and dd has even offered to help me with social media and taking photo's for a website. Not that I'm confident or ready for business yet.
I'm hopefully going to set up a business and read tarot, but not planning on it providing a huge income. Just to be able to offer a little pin money for the family is better than hat I have at present. Lost the whole of my business/ income within an hour of lockdown starting.
There's no jobs anywhere and when I find one there are hundreds of applicants. I'm not even fussy, stacking shelves would do, cleaning, call centre, but there's nothing Sad

BlankTimes · 24/07/2020 15:09

Elphame, Violet and Speakout enjoy your sojourns into closer contact, hope it's a lovely experience for all of you Halloween Smile

Ogress that's a brilliant start, it shows perseverance, you rock!

Welcome back Devlesko good to see you!

Starting any exercise is hard, always remember to do some warm-up exercises first, even if it's only marching on the spot.

Yoga is often seen as an easy type of exercise, it isn't but it's one of the 3 main ones that use the breath as well as movement. Yoga, Pilates and QiGong all do, although they all have individual disciplines which can be much more physical, so if you're going to classes, or doing an online course, choose wisely, i.e a beginners class Halloween Smile

I agree, there's a real scarcity of jobs. Just a thought for a few hours a week, are you any good at garden maintenance, no heavy work, just tidying and mowing lawns, trimming back and maybe seasonal planting in the borders. Several family friends are getting on in years and they are happy to pay someone £10 per hour to keep their average sized gardens tidy for a couple of hours per week. These gardeners use the clients' own mowers, but provide their own tools. If you don't have any, Aldi and Lidl often have gardening tools on offer, so a basic layout wouldn't cost the earth to get started.

All you need is a basic kit like you'd have for your own garden anyway and the ability to listen and understand the clients instructions before you do anything, some people aren't good at explaining what they want done, their 'tidy' could be very different to yours.

Basically don't trim any trees or branches during birds nesting season and the Gardenlaw website's good if you're not sure what they've asked you to do is okay with regards to neighbours overhanging plants.

It also gives you closer contact with Mother Earth, free vitaminD from sunshine, relaxation while you're working and the opportunity to find out about natural gardening techniques as opposed to slug pellets, chemical fertiliser and that sort of stuff.

Speaking of which, it's time I was out there doing something with my own garden! I picked some lavender yesterday, put it into bunches to dry it over the Aga, ready to send to a friend who has problems with carpet moths.

This morning, I lifted the lid to boil the kettle, moved one of the bunches of lavender and instantly was greeted with the smell of lavender incense, it had dried so much overnight that a lot of the buds had fallen onto the hotplate. I'd better go and pick some more!

Have a magical day everyone!

speakout · 25/07/2020 06:51

Good morning.

Elphame I hope you had a good evening yesterday.
Devlesko I am not sure that many of us do practice yoga here- just an enthusiastic few! I am sorry work is an issue.
Blanktimes you give some great suggestions- I would certainly employ someone to do a few odd hours of gardening work.
I think when jobs are scarce it's time to get creative.
I haven't had a "proper job" for over 20 years, I have been out of the workplace since my first child was born, but I have been self employed for 18 years, there is a lot of opportunity if you can think sideways and be creative.
Setting up a small business can be surprisingly easy, and need not cost very much to start up.
There are lots of short courses, many free, from manicure to web site design - using simple platforms, many people need babysitting, interior car cleaning ( I would so pay someone to do that) and domestic help.
Off shopping this morning with Mr Speakout- food mainly, but I will at last be ordering my new flooring for my toilet and hallway ( after my flood) now that the shops are open again. I will also stop by and stock up on craft supplies.
Then back to work this afternoon.

Wishing everyone a magical day.

Morning all, looks like most have busy weekends ahead. Seems like life is returning to something more normal, which is a blessing...

@speakout yes, I used to go to classes regularly, but haven't found one that suits where I am now. I've also used various yoga teachers on Youtube (mostly Adriene), but tbh I spend half the lesson craning my head around to try and see what they're doing, never knowing when to breathe. I'm finding just sticking to the sun salutations nice for now - I can just breathe as feels natural and just follow the sequence.

@Devlesko good luck with your job hunt, and with your tarot practice.

We had the firebowl going last night - it was lovely! Had a playlist on with some old favourites which made me wistful for the festivals we've missed this year (like this song . It's inspired us to host a (small, safe) gathering for Lammas, so I'll start organising that today.

Have a great day, all.

queenrollo · 25/07/2020 12:15

@Ogress I am really feeling the absence of festivals in my life this year, particularly the chance to spend time with friends that we often only see in a field full of music and tents/vans!

I am having a slow day as my period has arrived and I feel physically very tired. I've just put some hooks up in my little retreat space so that I can harvest herbs for drying this afternoon. I'm doing a lot of sitting, listening to the wind in the trees and birds singing. It feels a little like Autumn is sending messengers ahead to announce her arrival.....

YashmisCrone · 25/07/2020 13:51

It feels a little like Autumn is sending messengers ahead to announce her arrival.....

Yes! I’m feeling this too queenrollo. Not wanting to wish the seasons away but I so love autumn- it always feels full of fresh energy and possibility to me, I get very excited about the change of season from summer to autumn- my favourite time of year!
My thoughts are turning to Lammas and the turn of the wheel it represents

I’ve been enjoying our fire bowl too Ogress and sitting in the garden (weather permitting!) while it gets dark has been very comforting. I was delighted to discover while doing so that we have a prickly visitor to our garden. I think Hedgehogs are such fabulous creatures- always make me smile 🦔

Blanktimes your lavender incense story conjures up such a lovely image of your witch’s kitchen, aga at the heart of it. Wonderful.

I hope everyone’s plans and tentative social interactions have gone well and nourished the soul as desired.

Devlesko wishing you well with your job hunt, I know it’s so hard at the moment to find something but I can feel your tenacity of spirit and hope that you find something that suits very soon

Thank you everyone for sharing your reflections and updates as ever- full of wisdom and strength and very inspiring.

I’m enjoying a quiet day whilst the rain persists outside, there’s a freshness in the air seeping in through the open windows that is very welcome.

Wishing everyone a magical weekend

I love that too- what a lovely description.
queenrollo nurture yourself closely today- the red tent is a sacred time.

A quiet day here, working, laundry and shopping.
OH is on call working from home right now, so I am just about to head out to pick up an India takeaway- I didn't go last night as planned, but that's fine we are having food from the same place and I don't need to cook.
I plan a quiet restful evening. It has been raining much of the day, but the sun has now emerged, joined by a blustery wind. I love the sound of the leaves blowing through the leaves, my three old lady sycamores at the bottom of the garden are in full conversation with each other.

I hope everyone has the evening they need today.

Brightened up here too- I love the garden in the sun after the rain and have just spent a few happy moments watching a bee forage on a sunflower.

I love your sunflower!!

OP posts:
KateF · 25/07/2020 21:49

Oh what a beautiful sunflower! I do love the way they stand so tall and proud and beautiful. Last summer I grew some with the children at work and they loved seeing them grow.

I have been ridiculously busy with work and need to catch up on the thread. There's always so much to read, watch and learn, it may take a few days especially as we're having a little birthday lunch tomorrow for dd3 who is turning 16 on Tuesday. It will be so nice to have all my girls together again!

I hope everyone is well and I will be back soon.

speakout · 26/07/2020 07:28

Good morning, feeling a slight fug this morning as I had two classes of wine last night. I don't drink very much and can feel the effects afterwards!
DS and I have our teeth into a new Netflix series and cuddled up on the sofa last night- he had a few beers too. OH was working, but a very enjoyable eveing with my DS.
My yoga will be a gentle one this morning!
KateF I hope you enjoy the birthday lunch today, a great idea.

Sunday morning brings the usual fundamental christian vibe into the house, I think I will prepare some cleansing afterwards with rosemary,.
My rosemary bush has grown to a huge beast this year, the bees love the flowers too. I like to include rosemary in flower arrangements, or simmer handfuls on the stove to fragrance the air.
Although I try to ignore the services and chat I am aware that the messages are designed to hit us at a subconcious level, and many I simply don't agree with.

Off for an energising shower and some yoga to banish my post wine fug!

Have a magical day.

Thank you friends, I love sunflowers too and like it when they bloom in time for Lammas. Speaking of which I liked the look of this recipe and the idea of the symbolism of harvesting herbs for use in it. Although I always like the look of what I find on this website!

gathervictoria.com/2017/07/31/herbalicious-lammas-loaf-biscuits-celebrating-the-tradition-of-common-ground/

I hope the fug has cleared speakout and that you’ve been able to drown out the sounds of the Sunday services. I think I’d be tempted by headphones whilst it’s going on. Love your rosemary cleansing plan and it’s lovely to hear of your connection time with your DS.

It’s good to see you Kate, I hope the birthday lunch goes well and that you are able to find a little space to recharge too.

Windy day here, I’m hoping the rain will hold off so I can get some washing out. I like the feel of washing dried in energetic winds!

Wishing everyone a happy Sunday

rivierliedje · 26/07/2020 20:47

There are always such lovely posts here. I haven't been in a while and am feeling terribly disconnected. It is so busy at work right now and everything feels really draining, would like to reconnect for Lunasa.

I agree there is something autumnal in the air at the moment. It has been quite stormy here with some wonderful dramatic clouds.

speakout · 27/07/2020 09:17

YashmisCrone some yummy recipes there- thank you!

rivierliedje good to see you, sorry to hear of your disconnect.
It's a very wet day here today too, and quite chilly, I have had to put the heating on and a cardigan.
Just waiting for my mechanic to come and pick up OHs car, it has a bad rumble noise from one of the back wheels- I hope the fix won't be too expensive. I have a wonder mechanic though, very trustworthy, I worked with his wife for many years ( she is a health visitor) running breastfeeding support groups. I am a breastfeeding counsellor- retired now, strange now that when I look back at my work is seems a very witchy thing to do- helping women to breastfeed. It didn't feel that way at the time, but it all fits in and makes sense!

I hope everyone finds some good energy today.

VioletCharlotte · 27/07/2020 10:48

Good morning beautiful soul sisters.

I'm on the train on the way home after a fabulous weekend in Cornwall and enjoying the quiet time to relax and catch up on all your posts. Lovely to see some old friends again.

I agree that it's certainly feeling like late Summer now and there's a sniff of Autumn in the air. We went for a long walk yesterday across the cliff tops and I noticed the blackberries are starting to ripen, I'm sure they get earlier every year. The farmers are beginning to harvest the crops and the fields are full of hay bales. As much as I don't want to wish the summer away, I can't help feeling excited that Autumn is just around the corner.

Devlesko I've been thinking about your job hunt. Are you an animal person? I've always thought that if I were to be made redundant then I'd consider becoming a dog walker. Also pet sitters or people who pop in to feed cats and rabbits, hamsters, etc always seem to be in demand.

Yashmis thank you for sharing your sunflower photo. My sunflowers are growing well, but no blooms yet.

Speakout it's wet and windy here today too, but not central heating weather thankfully! I hope your car can be fixed easily and without too much expense.

rivierliedje · 27/07/2020 16:01

Speakout I hope your wonder mechanic comes through for your car.
Yes helping with the breastfeeding does sound quite witchy!

VioletCharlotte Cornwall sounds amazing. I was in Dingle a few weeks ago and it is similar in some ways, very southern for the country, wet and wild coast. Dingle also has tons of anciet things (beehive huts and the like) and mountains.

Today is very changeable, very wet some moments and bright sunshine the next with plenty of wind to blow the clouds through.
