101 Experiments in the Philosophy of Everyday Life

Has anyone read this book by Roger-Pol Droit?

I know a lot of people on this board are getting into the Celestine Prophecy at the moment but thought a discussion about this might be good to pass a bit of time.

For anyone that hasn't - its a book about little things to do by yourself to experiment with philosophy. Not sure how to describe it so I'll just copy part of the blurb;

"The idea is to provoke tiny moments of awareness. Invent things to do, to say, that produce astonishment or the unease generated by certain questions. It's about fabricating microscopic starter devices, minimal impulses. Playing on the level of objects"

Would recommend the book to anyone interested in philosophy but I can copy out one experiment at a time if anyone wants to try it without getting hold of the book??

WK these experiments... there were too many people in my head last nite... I could not sleep... is there a counter experiment to shut them all up

In fact this thread and other jsut created unease for me... but it related to something I had earlier read so was a good lesson I suppose ...but the Countess sucked enuf blood off me yesterday so I am off to eat steak and chips

Awww, poor you - they're not supposed to sit there and keep you awake - you're just supposed to be aware of their existence and feel in awe and also comforted knowing you're not alone. Its like mumsnet - you know that even when you're not on, someone will be and will be discussing something while you're off doing something totally different - but that doesn't mean you have to be on MN all the time, just as you don't need to think about the world all the time.

You have to feel the unease but then use it to boost your own energy.

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:04

Have fun coddy - but it is ESSENTIAL that you manage to get the flow rates the same before you finish otherwise you won't get the benefit of the experiment!!

OP posts:
Papillon · 17/09/2004 10:05

did you not wee and drink yesterday? tell us please your results if it fabricated your wee starter devices

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:06

I do have a laydee coming round.

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:12

CD - there is one where you have to phone random numbers, fancy that? Or counting to a thousand? Disconnect the phone? Remove your watch? Hurt yourself briefly? Peel an apple in your head?

OP posts:
ladywallopofcod · 17/09/2004 10:12

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:18

Ah no paps, as it's called 'philosophy' the they're happy because to them it has nothing to do with religion, they just think its slightly funny.

CountessDracula · 17/09/2004 10:19

Papillon · 17/09/2004 10:20

breathing is necessary and drinking makes you breathless

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:21

CP - celestine prohesies

I understand totally, so its all good and part of the game ain't it

wobblyknicks · 17/09/2004 10:27

and ladywallopofcod is not in a good position to talk about confusion caused by mispelling IMO!!!

OP posts:
Papillon · 19/09/2004 07:19

WK whilst there was an element of debauchery in your drinking theory it was still a quick bit of mental gymnastics which is the aim of this thread is it not....?

Your minimal impulses are working well -- you must tell me your secret... is it pepsi?
