101 Experiments in the Philosophy of Everyday Life

Has anyone read this book by Roger-Pol Droit?

I know a lot of people on this board are getting into the Celestine Prophecy at the moment but thought a discussion about this might be good to pass a bit of time.

For anyone that hasn't - its a book about little things to do by yourself to experiment with philosophy. Not sure how to describe it so I'll just copy part of the blurb;

"The idea is to provoke tiny moments of awareness. Invent things to do, to say, that produce astonishment or the unease generated by certain questions. It's about fabricating microscopic starter devices, minimal impulses. Playing on the level of objects"

Would recommend the book to anyone interested in philosophy but I can copy out one experiment at a time if anyone wants to try it without getting hold of the book??

ok I am going to look at this later and drink whilst urinating

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 14:51

But coddy, the essential part isto get the flow out at the same rate as the flow in so you feel like its going straight through - ok?

ok and what will happen t o me?

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 14:53

Well, you'll feel weird!!! The object is to feel bizarre but at the same time feel tuned into your body, basically.

i feel disturbed as baby paps won't have her afternoon sleep at its 4pm so my visits keep being interrupted i think i need tranquility and more place to visit - maybe it is too much for me at first.. i might go and drink and urinate too

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 14:59

Awww poor you paps - you don't have to sit and give this special attention, just think about it as you're going about your business - imagine what other people all round the world are doing at this very minute.

Damn nice lock man helped me fix my Sky system too, so didn't want to confuse him or make him feel uncomforatble. Wine man is coming later (another one I know) am planning on answering the door in a mysterious way and staring at him a lot, just above his eyes.

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:24

Lol - good of him to do your Sky! Do you deliberately arrange for all these men to come round to brighten up your day??

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 15:27

No, I work at home 1 or 2 days a week so always organise any men to come on those days!

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:28

Ah!! But why are they always men? I bet you phone up for deliveries and specify that it has to be a man, and I bet you even specify which sort of man you're in the mood for - tall, short, blonde, brunette....

OP posts:
Mo2 · 16/09/2004 15:28

Gosh - never heard that definition of 'working at home' before CD.....

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:29

Now now Mo2!! I'm sure it must be VERY hard work entertaining all those men!!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 15:30

Do you all remember my builders thread? hang on will find

Mo2 · 16/09/2004 15:31

WK.... are we following each other around the boards today?? Have to say, it's creating astonishment and unease for me........

CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 15:33

damn it has gone

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:34

CD, I remember it don't worry.

Mo2 - I'm trying to bring some unease into your life, glad its working. I could step it up a notch and start peering into your window??

OP posts:
Mo2 · 16/09/2004 15:38

PMSL - I first read that as "peeing into your window"....!
(Would that be while drinking at the same time by any chance?)

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:40

I could pee into your window while drinking if you so wish - that was quite far on in my plan to make you uneasy but we can skip straight to that if you can handle it!!!

i had painters come last week, two of them. I gave them my keys and they used dh tools

one of the days they came over i was actually down the road in a shop and one of them came into the shop which lucky as I was going out, so gave them the keys again.

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:46

Excellent coincidence paps!!! Does everyone regularly have men over except me?? Is this some life necessity that I'm missing out on??

OP posts:
Papillon · 16/09/2004 15:49

oh and an architect and the landloard came over for a wee visit the other day too...

not that i am trying to compete for most men over MN award of nothing

wobblyknicks · 16/09/2004 15:53

Lol paps!!

ok, thats enough about men in your house, get off my thread!!!

OP posts:
CountessDracula · 16/09/2004 16:04

papillion is a wee visit one where they come round and wee in your house while drinking water or a cup of tea?

The only reason I have so many men in my house is that dh and I are utterly incapable of doing anything diyish for ourselves.
