Hi Hills,
I agree with what Speakout and Elphame have said.
Right now, you are an unshielded empath, like a TV, you're receiving all channels being streamed to you which is overwhelming and can be overpowering, but you've not yet found the remote that can allow you to filter all of that constant stream of information to the point where you can select what you want to view and when you want to do it.
Protection is uppermost. Think of it as a reflector, if you're not great at visualising, no problem, there are loads of threads on the main boards about how some people see their imagination like a TV picture and others don't, so don't be alarmed at the instruction to visualise. I don't do amazing visuals, so most of the guided meditation things don't work for me, but I kind of 'feel' myself into the required state and it works for me.
If you find it beneficial, surround yourself with a circle of salt, I prefer Himalayan as it's rock salt, some people prefer sea salt. Choose which you prefer and remember it only needs to be a little sprinkle to be effective. It's the intent to protect you that you put into the salt to protect you that matters.
Then do whatever works for you to find a calm place within. Sometimes yoga breathing helps, don't worry about precision and counting too much, you can refine it later when you've time to practise, just make sure your back's straight and you exhale for a bit longer than you inhale. Focus on your breath only, if your mind won't shut up, then get it to say 'in' when you breathe in and 'out' when you breathe out. If you lose concentration on your breath, pause and start again. It's not as easy as it sounds, but at some point you'll feel much calmer than before.
Good, that's where and how you need to be for the next part of the exercise.
Nurturing your Inner Child is a lovely thing to do and Speakout has explained it very well.
Protection, it's up to you to decide how you want to present that, what's most comfortable for you to do. Elphame has given you some great ideas. I'd add surround yourself with a reflective-coated imaginary egg shell with you inside it and all the "signals" outside just bouncing off and going away. Ultimately, it's up to you to use whatever you feel most comfortable with.
Once you feel nurtured and protected, slowly come back to the room and reality.
In practise, you'll have to do this lots of times, but it will become easier and it will become second nature and you'll be able to reach that calm safe space within less than the blink of an eye. Practise, practise and practise some more, refine everything so that it's personal to you. It's okay not to be perfect.
Protection I find in the early stages is often helped along by a physical reminder you can carry around. You're already instinctively choosing crystals, that's great. Salt is just about invisible and a few grains in a pocket or a bag will remind you that you're protected.
A suit of armour to deflect all unwanted influences can be symbolically represented by a few sequins on a top or a sparkly top or a bit of shiny side outside tinfoil in your bra or by any type of reflective thing that you choose to represent protection. A sparkly bag can represent a shield. Again, you choose which symbolic meaning resonates with you and go for it.
Does the salt water have to be in the precise corners of a room or will a close approximation be enough?
If it's hard to sprinkle or spray salt water into corners where furniture prevents it, either move the furniture a few mm and try, or if that's impossible or dangerous, use a few individual grains of salt to sprinkle behind it or underneath it if it's on legs. The idea is to have an unbroken line of salt/salt water around the physical perimeters of the room. Do round all the windows too and each individual opening, and any doors or doorways. Dipping your index finger in the salt or salt water can help with that.
Be gentle on yourself, you're only just starting on your path, there will be times when things are fabulous and there will be times when things aren't great, that's the way any journey is, but there's always the opportunity to learn and to progress.
I know that's a lot to take in, take your time, if you get confused, leave it for a while and wait until your head's clear then start from a good place.
