A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration

All welcome.

MawkishTwaddle

Yes, older parents can revert to childish ways- and dare I say it become a little self centred.

From a logistical point of view using a service like Wiltshire would be a great back up for your parents, and take the pressure off you and your sister a little, knowing that they have a meat and two veg type meal at hand whenever they need to eat.

They should be considering the load you are carrying at the moment as your OH recovers. Maybe that needs explaining to them.

Could you steer the situation a little and "suggest" that it would be a good idea for a week or two as a "temporary " measure. ?

Don't let guilt add to your burden.

Sometimes slightly selfish behaviour needs to be dealt with in a practical breezy manner- as you may do with a child.

They may even like the meals!

@VioletCharlotte I hope you enjoy the wedding this evening, I understand what you mean about not usually enjoying large social events!

@Mawkish I also hope you can get some time for yourself today, even if it's turning off your phone this evening, and having a quiet few hours for yourself.

I've been to the beach today, managed somehow to get quite lost on the way, even though I've driven it plenty of times! I can feel myself needing to recharge, so the children will be having an early bedtime, while I switch off. I got some nice "sea glass" at the beach, so that was good!

I had quite a vivid dream last night: I was weeding the front garden because it had suddenly become abundant with growth again, even though I knew it should be autumn. There was a flower sprouting by my front gate, one I knew I hadn't planted. It looked like it would be a large poppy, and in my dream I remember feeling grateful for it being an unexpected gift.

Definitely a vote for Farmfoods for me They were perfect when my FIL was widowed. He'd never cooked but he could manage these and they did ones suitable for his diabetic condition too.

Couple of projects on the go here! I reclaimed Oscar ( my stang) from the friend he's been staying with as he needs a bit of attention before samhain.

This is my little DIY home made essential oil and hydrosol maker. It's very easy to make, the base is part of a Yankee candle oil burner, the jar is a small mason jar (needs to be able to take the heat of the candle flame) and the condensing vessel in the middle is an old egg cup. The water boils, condenses on the watch glass on the top and rolls down into the egg cup. Very simple way to make your own extracts and smells wonderful whilst you are doing it. I have a proper still for larger quantities but this is more fun!

Am still here, still listening & still loving & learning from all your spiritual activities. Unable to individually name & answer everyone (dammit Wink) but wanted to draw closer to the Aga & light a candle with similar souls.

There's a wonderfully atmospheric moon & passing illuminated clouds tonight which reminded me of all of you. It rose beside the Great Oak at exactly the perfect bed-viewing point Grin

The tawnies & muntjac seem particularly close & vocal this week & I'm feeling very calm & spiritually soothed.

I'm sure much of this is down to the fine threads of connection between us all here. Thank you x

Inmyownlittlecorner · 20/10/2018 20:23

Thank you everyone for your kindness.
I’ve spoken to my daughters about our Samhain alter & we’re heading to Hampstead Heath tomorrow to collect leaves & conkers etc. Making my home feel warm & comforting is very important to me at the moment & really does help with my sadness & grief.

Loyaultemelie · 20/10/2018 23:15

Inmyownlittlecorner so sorry for your loss. I also find rose/geranium really comforting
Mawkish thinking of you, it's hard to function properly when you can't take any time to recharge yourself

On another note I'm jealous of all of you with Aldi I love all those little pumpkins they just give me a real lift!

Bellecose2 · 21/10/2018 08:13

@Elphame... you are always so industrious with your projects! I am having a problem with oil burners.. they keep catching fire so I've had to stop using them. Not sure if it's something to do with me or not but it's never happened before.

@Enchanters... glad you are still here reading along with us. I know I've mentioned this before, but I find doing Mudras help so much with pain... There are a lot of free resources online. Sending you healing thoughts.

Morning everyone.

Owls outside my bedroom window woke me up just before dawn, and when the sun finally arrived there came hundreds of migrating geese in amazing formations.
They will be tired and near the end of their journey. There are lots of locations near me that provide a winter haven. The sight and sound of migrating geese gives me goosebumps of pleasure.

GruciusMalfoy · 21/10/2018 09:05

I realised I'll pass an ALDI tomorrow, it would be rude not to quickly see what pumpkins they may have!

It sounds windy and rainy here today. Good for a quiet dog walk, because most people tend to hide away. I've been thinking about Samhain's approach, and about what I may do this year.

@Elphame, that looks very clever!

I hope everyone has a nice day.

HillsBesideTheSea · 21/10/2018 11:15

I will be driving on Samhain (if I have my dates right), but that does mean I could potentially do a drive by of stone henge/glastonbury. Contemplating the possibilities.

I didn't manage to leave the house yesterday and it really affected my mood. So going to take the opportunity to walk down to Aldi for shopping bits. Will take my studying in the car and go study in a car park with a view of the hills. Should help my mood. Plenty of blankets and windows open.

Speakout Our geese have not arrived yet but it is lovely listening to them when they do (even if the make a local park unusable sometimes) We still have bats in the evenings (although less so now the temperature is dropping) and I love watching them swoop and dive.

Elphame I love your little still! Thank you for sharing it with us.

Mawkish it is hard to balance independence with need to be looked after and the need for things to be as they have always been. I hope you can find a compromise that works well for you and your parents. I think the Wiltshire is a good option for you. Hope you have managed to find a little time for what you need this weekend.
With regards to filling the well when you are rushing about I have found a way to make the car journey something that will help, especially when it is just me in the car. Useful when you have to include a lot of driving in the week. I was so successful that when it decreased (ds stopped an activity that required mileage, lots of mileage) I found I was actually missing that relaxing drive - driving in rush hour traffic on a road know for craziness should not have been calming so not sure I could offer tips but I somehow made it work.

VioletCharlotte · 21/10/2018 11:53

Morning everyone. Another beautiful day 😊

Speakout where you live sounds incredible, are you very rural? Your description makes it sound so peaceful.

I've been out for another long walk this morning with my dog. Nature is wonderful isn't it? Feel grounded again. I went to a wedding reception last night, which I found hard work if I'm honest. I find it draining having to make conversation for that lengthy of time with people I haven't really got that much in common with outside of work (although they're all nice enough!)

This afternoon I'm going to a gong bath. If you've never been to one, do give it a try if you get a chance. It's a wonderful experience.

speakout · 21/10/2018 15:32

VioletCharlotte

I live in Scotland, near Edinburgh.

It is semi rural, Edinburgh is an amazing compact, vibrant, cosmopolitan city, but you don't need to travel far to find wild places, miles of unspoilt coastline, native woodland. I live 20 minutes from the heart of the capital, on the edge of a small town, near a beautiful fast clear river, surrounded by forest.
It is also a 15 minute drive to the coast, miles of native coastline, dotted by small villages, waters populated by dolphins and seals.

I think it is no coincidence that J K Rowling has also made this place her home, ( she lives 15 minutes from me)

If I had all the money in the world ( a bit like her) I wouldn't move from here.

VioletCharlotte · 21/10/2018 17:29

Speakout that sounds like the perfect peace to live! I went to Edinburgh for the weekend in April and totally fell in love with it. I'm really hoping to be able to have another trip and come for longer so I can get out and about into the surrounding countryside. I can totally see how living there inspired JK Rowling. I came away feeling like something had awakened inside.. and that was just after a weekend!

speakout · 21/10/2018 17:33

VioletCharlotte

Yes, of course it is not a perfect place- no cities are, but very low crime rates- huge pagan festivals.

OP posts:
GruciusMalfoy · 21/10/2018 17:52

I really like Edinburgh. I'm closer to Glasgow so tend to go there if I need to go to the city, but Edinburgh has a totally different atmosphere.

YashmisCrone · 22/10/2018 09:39

Just stopping by to wish everyone a good week.

I haven’t had much time to contribute but it always soothes me to read Halloween Smile

Interestingly I’ve been busy with an unwell parent. I love how the discussion here always gives me something I need, even when I don’t have time to join in.

Thank you all for sharing your wise words/thoughts. This place certainly feels like a lovely little sanctuary to me Halloween Smile

GeeIneverthoughtofthat · 22/10/2018 09:51

Morning all

It’s a beautiful day with crisp autumn leaves and bright blue sky. I can see the spiders webs glistening in the sunlight.

Nearly time for a lovely new thread too! 😊

Have a good week everyone.

owlshooting · 22/10/2018 20:54

Ah speakout, you are making me wistful with your talk of owls, bats and geese . i miss all that from our last house. Now we are urban I long for nature. JK Rowling has ANOTHER house near you? She has one in Perthshire, New Zealand and West Edinburgh too!

SecretWitch · 22/10/2018 21:07

Hello, lovelies❤️

I have been catching up on everyone. Love seeing the Samhain decorations. I am busy thinking of how I want to do my ritual. My oldest dd took my youngest dd out to pick her pumpkin this past weekend. How I wish I could have been there but my knee is not yet ready for walks in a field yet.

I am struggling with some personal and spiritual issues right now. Any prayers for positive outcomes would be welcome.

Bright blessings for a peaceful night ✨✨

GruciusMalfoy · 23/10/2018 07:57

Good morning everyone! It's been an extremely blustery couple of days here, and sounds like we're in for it again today.

I'll be sorting the kids rooms out, splitting and moving bunk beds. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good way to introduce a subtle calming effect on sleeping areas? Thinking smudging?

@SecretWish I will light a candle this evening and send you my positive thoughts. I hope things get easier for you.

speakout · 23/10/2018 16:33

A blustery day here too- but dry.

Loved having all my laundry outside capturing all that energy.

Feeling the need to pamper myself a bit tonight- seem to be running on low,

OP posts:
PawneeParksDept · 23/10/2018 20:00

@speakout

I hope you don't mind but I've PMd you about something. I realised you might not have seen it as they don't show up on the App.

PawneeParksDept · 23/10/2018 20:01

Definitely @SecretWitch x

SecretWitch · 23/10/2018 20:17

Good evening, Sisters!
I have done a smudging session and feel lighter, if that makes sense?
I appreciate your candle for me, GruciusMalfoy. Thank you for your prayers Pawnee I know I am lucky to come here for your support.

speakout I hope your pampering gives you a needed boost. You seem to be such a nurturing person. Time to care for your needs Flowers

Wishing everyone a peaceful night ✨✨

SecretWitch · 23/10/2018 20:25

@GruciusMalfoy, I just properly read your post and see that you mentioned smudging before me! How interesting....

I like to use essential oils to bring on a calming, peaceful state. I know many people use lavender with succes. I find rose, myrrh and vanilla to be my go to oils. I place drops on a muslin or cotton square and place it close to my bed. I have also made a spray of vodka(cheap!), water and essential oils to spray about the room. Some people use diffusers.
I am afraid of my cats knocking them over.
