Or Wiccans. or Pagans? Or anyone who is interested in a magical path or feels some magical stirrings.

A place for support, learning, swapping ideas and magical inspiration

All welcome.

Yes I would broadly agree with the "it is all one" but the language changes idea but lots of Christians

I'm not sure I believe that as you state it. I believe human beings can access great power, the Divine, God, can be in them, if they agree to it. But not all people want this. I also believe there are spiritual entities other than God, that do not have the same nature as Him, that people can be in relationship with.

PawneeParksDept · 10/09/2018 13:47

How do you balance being a witch and being a Christian out of interest ?

hiheIIo · 10/09/2018 13:51

I'm not a witch. I'm a Christian with mystical/charismatic leanings. I just dropped in here to address some issues people were still discussing left over from another thread I started. Here:

https://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/philosophyreligionn_spirituality/3357309-witches-pagans-how-do-you-view-christian-religious-spiritual-experiences

But I don't wish to over stay my welcome. Feel free to discuss any questions on the other thread.

BelladonnaKebab · 10/09/2018 14:41

@Bellecose I just did that little quiz! I too thought I would definitely be a kitchen witch but I got mostly Ds too (hedgewitch) as well as a few Cs (elemental witch) which strangely, combined, describes me perfectly! Smile

speakout · 10/09/2018 14:57

I couldn't see the quiz- and nothing wrong with a little light hearted frivolity!!

Big changes in the seasons today- the cool air is lovely, quite a wind too.

I can feel the crackle in the air.

That silken pear cake in the link looked delicious- I may make it for Mabon.
The lead up to Samhain is always exciting.

@speakout I'm rubbish with links but this may possibly work... www.thesimplethings.com/blog/2014/09/28/wicca-quiz-witch?rq=Witch

I was thinking how good that silken pear cake looks too!

Bellacose no worries.

speakout · 10/09/2018 15:38

The negative connotations of being a witch need to be voiced.

It comes from the persecution- by the church- that so much of our craft had to be performed in secret, hidden away.

I am very guarded in who I tell about my magical activities, some close family members even.

My mother lies to people about my business, even when they ask direct questions- she is embarrassed.

It's so lovely to have this sacred space here.

user1457017537 Oh yes. I haven't worn a watch for 40 years. Cheap or expensive, battery or clockwork they all give up after a few months.

As for computers, I managed to wreck 3 laptops in 3 months. Amazon were awfully good about it when I ran up to send, first one back, then a second and then the third...... I have now learned to shield and HP seems more witch proof than Samsung! We get through a lot of small appliances too. They don't seem to last long nowadays.

PawneeParksDept Psalms have a long history of magical use. I have a book of psalms at home with all the ones used for curse and protection work in witchcraft. I expect the one you want will be in it. Unfortunately I'm not going to be able to check it for you until the end of the month. If you can't wait you can get the book here

www.troybooks.co.uk/the-charmers'-psalter-2nd-edition.html

(Troy Books are a great publisher for anyone interested in traditional witchcraft).

I got a blend of Cs and Ds on the quiz - Elemental/hedgewitch then. No real surprise there.

Elphame · 10/09/2018 16:03

Well I'm both happy and angry this afternoon.

I went out today on a fungus foray with the plan of picking some fly agaric. I know the patches around here and I was hoping for a couple.

It's a good year, there were some fabulous specimens - one over 8" across! Or it would have been if some vandal hadn't uprooted nearly every mushroom and whacked them with a stick. It must have been earlier today as they were still fresh. Many were shattered into tiny pieces, others just pulled from the mycelium and thrown down. Such a shame.

I picked up as many as I could fit in my bag so at least they wouldn't just go to waste. Why do people do such things?

I've now got far more than I need!

Not long to Equinox.
Many thousands of years ago, the ancients of our land not only understood archaeoastronomy including the solstices and equinoxes, they built huge monuments to demonstrate these events.
Cairn T at Loughcrew Complex in Ireland is one such structure
www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=1987425152

There's a virtual reality tour of the complex here and more info about the site. voicesfromthedawn.com/loughcrew/

Anyone else as obsessed intrigued by the ancient places as I am will hopefully be interested in a new book that's available from Amazon on 20 Sept or from its editor before that here, which includes a look at some of the pages.

Reviews are just starting to come in
www.megalithic.co.uk/article.php?sid=2146414341#64135

I've been involved in it in a small way as have what seems like hundreds of other people, but I do not stand to gain financially from any sales or profits, just in case anyone thought that was my motivation for posting it.
Most books on ancient site are usually either archaeological fact or very way-out theories. this one is different, it aims to appeal to people right across the board and I think it's achieved that well.

The negative connotations of being a witch need to be voiced. I agree, could we go over these psalm titles in the book link:

To Curse Enemies & Oppressors
To Strike Enemies with Terror
For Vengeance upon Enemies
To Punish the Harmful
To Return Evil upon Enemies
For the Destruction of Enemies & Gain-Seeking Persecutors
To Kill Enemies
To Raise Dark Assistance against Enemies

speakout · 10/09/2018 16:18

Vitalogy

I am not sure what point you make.

Perhaps starting another thread on this subject might be helpful Vitalogy?

Witches are human.

Humans have all sorts of motivations.

Years ago I worked with a hideous woman. She was a manager and the most terrible bully, staff were afraid of her. She was vindictive and nasty, would waste no time in putting the boot into others. She was vicious and nasty to everyone- including me.

I came across some of her work on the system. She had made a bad mistake which violated company policy.

I could have hidden it, moved on, I could have rectified it to minimize the damage.

I did none of those things.

I engineered it so her action popped up in a report and landed in the MDs inbox.

She was disciplined and demoted, removed from her position.

No magic was involved.

I could have saved her skin, I chose not to.

People do things like this often.

I don't know why you think witches should have any more moral high ground than an average person.
They don't- they just have extra tools.

@BlankTimes - I've had that on order since I heard about it I'm hoping it is waiting for me when I get home

@Vitalogy - I see you carefully selected only the topics that fit your agenda. This is a witchcraft thread. If the topics discussed ie witchcraft makes you uncomfortable then perhaps you might be happier hiding this thread. I am certainly not going to censor what I post here to suit your sensibilities.

SecretWitch · 10/09/2018 16:30

Hello lovely sisters! Just checking in, will read the rest of the thread tonight. I’m currently giving my child a break from classes, while snuggling up in my gran’s blanket. Loving the chill in the air. I’ve begun thinking how I want to celebrate Mabon. Was thinking of getting some gourds in the decorate altar. Maybe trying to find some lovely leaves to place on there as well....
So happy to be connected to you all. Blessings..

I don’t think this thread is the appropriate place for this discussion, I agree with enchanters.

ThatsNotEvenAWord · 10/09/2018 16:33

Elphame perfectly put.

Great mushroom haul btw! What do you plan to do with them?

I did the quiz earlier, it seems I’m a mixture of kitchen and elemental, I guess I really like working with fire!

PawneeParksDept · 10/09/2018 16:49

@Elphame

Thanks so much, I have just ordered it

It seems really popular

I really wanted to keep trying things after that worked so well but could never find my way back to where I'd found it

Never heard of Troy Books so that's a new resource for me as well

@Elphame I hope you love the book, please post a review on the Portal when you've had chance to have a good look at it, if not pm me and I'll post it for you as an anon one.

@Vitalogy I agree with the comments expressed by Enchanters and Elphame
