I'll save a buttery for you but you're on your own against the seagulls.

DragonNoodleCake · 16/04/2018 23:19

Haha, not that far. Just Midlothian 😀

EddSimcox · 16/04/2018 23:24

Ok. Gulp. Tuo persuaded me to say yes to giving the homily at a very small LGBT+ service I'm involved with... this weekend. I've never done anything like it before. I shall blame Tuo if it all goes horribly wrong, but if it all goes well I will credit you all for your prayers... thank you! Fortunately none of you will be there to judge so I will be the arbiter of how terrible it was! Blush

Actually I might blame niminy for getting me into this whole malarky in the first place. Though I suppose the Holy Spirit might have played her part. Wink

Lisette40 · 16/04/2018 23:29

dragon Grin

DragonNoodleCake · 17/04/2018 00:11

@Lisette40 North enough to understand the references

@EddSimcox yes, the Holy Spirit has a way of convincing us to do things, I might have filled in a form today that has been the content of many heart whispers

Niminy · 17/04/2018 08:48

Edd I think you'll be great. Pray, then speak from your heart, and it will be well. Is it on Sunday? Let me know when and I will pray for you.

Dragon that sounds like a significant form! That Holy Spirit at work again...

Madhairday · 17/04/2018 19:10

Oh Edd, I know you'll be wonderful. Prayers for you as you prepare!

So lovely that you, Broomstick and Tuo met. I want to meet you all! Maybe this year sometime we'll try and do a meet up. Summer possibly.

I had a wonderful holiday in Majorca, very rested now.

Double, how are things with you? Sorry to hear baby needs eye ops :( praying for you with your dad's anniversary too Flowers

EddSimcox · 17/04/2018 22:39

Thanks MHD (I want to meet you too!) and niminy for your prayers and encouragement. Smile

dragon the form... dying to hear how that pans out... ??? intriguing!

I've been thinking of you too double, how are you feeling about it all?

How is everyone else? Lisette? Cish? Wiggy?

DragonNoodleCake · 17/04/2018 23:00

Well I'm sure I mentioned getting made redundant (not actually got my letter in my hand yet but leave date will be 18th or 25th May). I have been job hunting hard and pleased to say I've accepted a post! Start date tbd. It's a good one too 😀 but more travel 😔

As part of my redundancy deal I got money to spend on training (well I don't get the cash - they pay for the course directly) so I tried to be sensible and pick training directly related to the new job. I didn't Grin I've been getting whispers about volunteering with the teenagers at church but coming to faith late in life I feel that although I am comfortable talking with teenagers and being candid and honest, I don't have a huge biblical knowledge to answer their questions. Whilst looking for training I came across an online diploma in Bible Studies (own pace working 24 weeks up to 3 years to complete) within the budget.
So I filled in the form and sent it to HR...I just kept thinking about it. So I thought - just do it. I can use time in hotels to study I guess.

DragonNoodleCake · 17/04/2018 23:00

@Doublegloucester what's the latest with baby and ops?

EddSimcox · 18/04/2018 07:42

Oh that sounds cool dragon, good on you.

applesandpears33 · 18/04/2018 13:50

Dragon - I lurk on here far more than I post, and to confuse things more I change names every so often. I'm in central Scotland too. I'll send you a pm.

applesandpears33 · 18/04/2018 14:10

Cish - I remember trying to keep my kids quiet at a more traditional service. It isn't always easy. I found it helped to have lots of food in tupperware boxes so there wasn't the sound of wrinkly packets. I had thought with the DSs that toy cars (without sounds) may be good because they could play with them quietly on the back of the pews in front where the hymn books and bibles go. That didn't work. They just improvised and made loud "vroom" sounds. The toy dinosaur didn't work for the same reason. With DD a soft toy doll and toy moses basket worked much better because she could play at being mummy and tuck the baby up to sleep. Thankfully dolly didn't wake up and start "crying". Crayons were good for colouring in. Felt tip pens weren't because DD wanted to colour in everything on the paper so they made quite a bit of noise. Fuzzy felts worked OK. Galt used to make a travel version of a toy where you filled up a special pen with water to draw pictures on a pad. The pictures disappeared when the water evaporated. That worked well too. I remember that stage well. It can be hard but it does pass.

CishAndFips · 27/04/2018 21:32

Useful tips thank you apple DD loves going to church at the moment, she is very excited when she knows it's a church day. I want her to keep her enthusiasm so I think for the time being we will stick to the family focused services and messy church, and just take DS along to the traditional services.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 27/04/2018 21:53

Hi - lifetime God Squadder here. I'm not CofE - more of a happy happy house church member but I haven't seen anything else faith based on here. Is there anyone else from Wales?

Doublegloucester · 28/04/2018 21:20

Oops I fell off the thread, sorry. Ds has now had his second op and seems to be recovering well so far thanks :-)

They couldn't quite do all they wanted so he might need further ops down the line, but for now, it was a decent result. Baby eyedrops are a nightmare to put in though!

Welcome, hairbrush!

MrsJackHackett · 28/04/2018 21:54

Ooh we'll be needing a new thread soon.

Best wishes & prayers to all.

Thinking about doing something May, where I really up the ante on my faith in my life. It's already a big part of it, but I'm provoked to dig deeper. Got 2 days to figure out what to do. I'm thinking maybe pay no heed to the news for a month or something like that. Sounds a bit drastic.

Here's a question for you, how do your faith feature in your life?

CishAndFips · 29/04/2018 15:57

You have my sympathy double baby eye drops are indeed a nightmare and I say that as a nurse in an eye clinic.

Good question Mrs I'm quite new to practicing religion and my husband is a non beliver. At the moment it's quite a big part of my life however I'm looking for ways to practice, develop, express and demonstrates my faith outside of Sunday service.

SometimesTheSmallestThings · 30/04/2018 07:05

Hello all, I wondered if I could join in here just for some chat and community - I am a Christian / Quaker attender, I have a 5 month old daughter and don’t tend to get out to Quaker meetings or our local church at the moment but would love to be able to chat faith with others x

picklemepopcorn · 30/04/2018 08:54

Hello, I've been elsewhere for a while, so I'm posting to make sure I don't lose you when the new thread starts.

EddSimcox · 30/04/2018 09:41

Unless someone beats me to it (feel free) I’ll start a new thread this evening...
Welcome hairbrush. I think @tiggles is in Wales but I haven’t seen here around for a while...
mrs um, short answer. In everything. Every decision, every word, every action. Either because its intentional, or because I’m asking forgiveness for not being intentional about it and messing up... probably more the latter tbh

EddSimcox · 30/04/2018 18:40

Pull up a pew here to join the new thread.

See you all there!
