A place to share and chat about our funny (and not so funny experiences) in and out of church.
Did anyone say coffee? That would be good Brew

Lovely, niminy!💛

We had a record turnout today too. Such a feeling of joyful worship. Felt incredibly blessed.

Off on holiday in the morning, can't wait :-)

Dutchoma · 02/04/2018 07:21

We went to Christ Church in Vienna, the service was taken by the Bishop which was lovely. It’s only a small church and it seemed to take half an hour before everyone had been up for communion. And then there was: wait for it: the blessing of the Easter chocolate. J was a bit shocked, but to me it was just another expression of relying on God’s goodness.
We arrived a bit early and popped into the Russian Orthodox church. We got a warm invitation from a gentleman who explained that it was Palm Sunday being celebrated there today. The atmosphere was amazing, so very different from anything I ever experienced. We didn’t stay long, felt a little awkward as we had no head covering, but mainly because it was hard to enter into the spirit of the worship.

Happy Easter everyone.

Just popping in to thank all the people who recommended Catherine Fox on this thread aaaaages ago. Started Acts and Omissions yesterday and am already halfway through. All horribly and hilariously familiar...!

Dutchoma · 02/04/2018 21:21

Isn’t she lovely? I’ve still got to find part 3

Hi everyone, I pop on here occasionally and lurk often. Just wanted to share that my 3 children chose to be confirmed yesterday. It was a lovely service and very joyful. They are so happy and proud. The sermon was about giving service in the community and very inspiring.

I pray their faith continues to grow daily and they can respond positively to the hostility often shown to them simply because they are Christians. I feel it's sad they have to hide their faith now a days to avoid people having a go at them purely for believing. It's very hard for them. I pray they are strong enough not to to let the hostility get them down and that they can let their faith shine. I wish the world were a more tolerant place for them!

Anyone at Spring Harvest - it's going to be a very good week, I can feel it!

CishAndFips · 03/04/2018 15:08

That's lovely news daffodil

SpringNowPlease2018 · 03/04/2018 16:20

sorry was there a link for the writing of Catherine Fox? I can find a novelist and corporate commentator...

I gave away a lovely opal cross to someone I felt needed it. Now I miss it.

Niminy · 03/04/2018 16:57

Catherine Fox Acts and Omissions Tuo I expect there is a lot of cathedrally stuff that is very familiar to you. Happy reading!

How wonderful daffodil!

SpringNowPlease2018 · 03/04/2018 17:03

Thanks Niminy
I misunderstood the subject matter I think!

EddSimcox · 03/04/2018 21:09

that's great news daffodil

Holy week was actually quite profound for me. First time I've kissed the cross (weeping..). Beautiful small vigil on Saturday evening. But Easter day was a mistake. I went at 8am because I thought I had to go to HC and wanted to be with the kids all day. It was awful. Boring and solemn. No joy whatsoever. Sermon about Bede, no mention of Jesus at all! I so wanted to sing and see my church 'family' and be full of the joys of the resurrection... Should have just stayed home rather than the horrid service I went to. (TBF I should have known, I've been before so I knew the score, I just hoped it would be better because you know, Easter, and also I didn't expect to mind so much)...

Anyway, on we go. Things still a bit unsettled at home, but in a kinder way, and I'm juggling work and all sorts and keeping myself out of trouble ;)

Doublegloucester · 04/04/2018 20:54

Happy Easter all (bit late to the party)!

Sorry you had a bit of a disappointing Easter day Edd, that is quite impressive for an Easter day service to have no mention of Jesus, not surprised you felt short changed!

Glad most others seem to have had a good Easter and hope everyone's had some rest, it can be quite intense with so many services on in such a short time can't it (she says, having missed Holy week completely, curled up on sofa with baby squish)...

We had a good Easter day service, with tons of children and a decent sermon!

Bit of an emotional time here, what with new baby (who is due 2 eye operations in the next few weeks) and my dad's first anniversary but we shall get through it.

CishAndFips · 08/04/2018 18:30

No surprise your emotional double that's a lot to be dealing with.

Any tips on keeping a 2 year old occupied during a service. I don't usually take DD to traditional service but DH was working today. I felt like I couldn't listen to the service though as I was trying to keep her occupied so it felt like a bit of a wasted effort all round. Luckily DS was extremely well behaved.

WiggyPig · 10/04/2018 12:09

Cish is there a children's area at all in your church? I've resorted to snacks for DD before when she was just at that awkward 2yo stage of too big to sit still, too small to behave.

CishAndFips · 11/04/2018 20:37

Not a children's corner as such wiggy they do have toys in the corner which we bring out for tots group. DD gets very excited when where going to church, we have a messy church, family focus, and cafe style worship all running once a month on different weeks. So a traditional service where the toys are away is a bit of a culture shock. They do have little bags with a few toys designed to play quietly in the corner with and a colouring table at the front but this isn't what she is used to it and in her opinion doesn't quite cut it I suppose.

BroomstickOfLove · 15/04/2018 19:43

I met Edd yesterday! She dropped into my workplace and is very nice. Also, she said I didn't look like my Facebook photo, and I didn't realise until later that I'm using a 25 year old picture.

EddSimcox · 15/04/2018 19:55

It was lovely to meet you broomstick!

Lisette40 · 15/04/2018 19:59

That's lovely!

Dutchoma · 15/04/2018 20:56

It’s lovely to hear of real life meet-ups.

DragonNoodleCake · 15/04/2018 21:49

OMG @EddSimcox and @BroomstickOfLove -that sounds fab.

In other news I led prayers today in the service!

Tuo · 15/04/2018 22:57

Hey @BroomstickOfLove... you met me too, only I didn't introduce myself with my MN name as I'm not very active on this thread, so I wasn't sure if you'd know who I was... But it was me with Edd! It was lovely to meet you. Smile

Niminy · 16/04/2018 17:42

I want to meet Broomstick as well

Cish I have a friend who runs an under-fives play session, themed around the season and the reading, every week in the church. She started with perhaps one a week and now has up to 10 tinies. It is so lovely and I wish we could do it where I am now -- indeed everywhere.

Tuo · 16/04/2018 21:57

Niminy.... You will have to come and see me!

DragonNoodleCake · 16/04/2018 22:01

Are you all in England?
