I'm following a brilliant thread on Twitter right now - a "competition" between the cathedrals about who's best Grin

Thank you mhd for your kind words, and your friend's lovely words too x Flowers

BroomstickOfLove · 04/10/2017 11:37

Ace thread, nickle. I'm currently applying for a job in one of those cathedrals and thinking that I really can't imagine a more glorious workplace.

building2017 · 04/10/2017 12:45

Oh,, brilliant thread. :D

Niminy · 04/10/2017 18:55

That thread definitely adds to the sum total of joy in the world!

Good luck with the job application Broomstick.

Madhairday · 04/10/2017 20:35

Love that cathedral thread. Brilliant! Been to a few of those...

Good luck with the job, Broomstick!

nickelbeingnormal · 04/10/2017 22:22

It was wonderful - just the delight they all take in the beauty of their buildings, and the jovial sharing :)
And little snippets you wouldn't think of.
Fascinating

EddSimcox · 04/10/2017 22:56

Good thread. Cheered me up on a bad day :)

Good luck Broomstick x

Has anybody read ‘Archbishop’ by Michele Guinness. It was recommended by the friend who heard that I liked Catherine Fox’ Linchester novels.
I’m half way through and not sure what to think of it.

I bought Archbishop- when I saw Michelle at WWWG but not got round to reading it yet...I loaned it to DM a couple of weeks ago, I'll ask her what she thinks!

DragonNoodleCake · 11/10/2017 21:32

Mad hair loved the link ...they also did this one, makes me properly chuckle!!!

I don’t know what WWWG is, but I like your link. Interested to know what your DM thnks of the book.

Apologies for the late reply to your post Pigeon but I wanted to say I understand re worship. Singing in the band, I adore new worship songs but it's fantastic when the congregation knows them well enough to belt them out.

Which are the new worship songs you've been singing that feel more like a performance?

We've got 6-7 singers on a rota and about 8 in the band that mostly play multiple instruments - do swap round from week to week. Due to so many potential combination of band members some didn't get to learn a song for months. So Now i run a practise session once a month and we try out new songs, practise the hard ones etc. I love it. It's a nice time of companionship just hanging out together worshiping.

We have 3 or 4 worship songs at the beginning of the service (one after the children's address) and 2 hymns in the second half.
We have a prayer and praise service one Wednesday night a month acoustic with 2 or 3 band members and an intimate service where we share our testimonies one Sunday evening a month, with the band.
I love to sing at P&P but it can feel more performancey just due to less people and a different feel.

I spend my 50 minute commute listening to worship and get some great ideas for new songs. I'm becoming a bit obsessed 😀

Sorry Dutch women walking with God, I went to the conference in Edinburgh this year. Michelle Guinness was the main speaker.

Dutchoma · 11/10/2017 22:49

Thank you Dragon

Proper lold at that one, Dragon, especially Chris Tomlin circling like a shark and the five hour bridge Grin

Oma, I actually have that sitting in my bookcase but haven't bothered as dh read some of it and didn't like it so I haven't picked it up, maybe I should try it. Have a huge pile of books to read at the moment!!

Dh is off to Uganda at the weekend so sterling myself for the next fortnight. Have plenty of support so it'll be fine. Just hope he's ok.

Dutchoma · 12/10/2017 11:08

MHD I would love it if you could give it a try. I am not sure whether I like it or not, but am too hooked to put it away.
Praying for travelling mercies for your dh and for it all to go well in Uganda and for you being ‘sterling’ on your own.

Haha at sterling, meant steeling and didn't notice autocorrect fail.

I'll pick up archbishop and have a look, probably over half term when I have some time!!

5 hour bridge is great. :)

Might have to subscribe to that Babylon Bee.

Niminy · 12/10/2017 20:53

I've heard nothing good about Archbishop. It had a stinker of a review in the Church Times.

Dutchoma · 12/10/2017 21:12

I wish I’d seen that review.

OP posts:
Niminy · 12/10/2017 21:53

It said it was overlong and confusing. Two contrasting reviews from Christian Today

Dutchoma · 12/10/2017 22:35

I found those. And two short extracts from the Church Times but they were quite complimentary. Penny someone?

Have you read the Starbridge novels by Susan Howatch? In that genre but really well written, modern day Anthony Trollope stuff, some of Catherine Fox's stuff reminded me. Think the first is Glittering Images?
