A place to share and chat about our funny (and not so funny experiences) in and out of church.
Did anyone say coffee? That would be good Brew

Madhair

Coincidentally I was at an evangelical service just yesterday - proper hymns/hymn tunes (some had new words) but all very bouncy and lively. It was BRILLIANT!

Loved every minute.

I don't normally do "hands" nut felt myself just getting carried along - it was a most delightful and uplifting experience.

BroomstickOfLove · 31/07/2017 15:28

The Sanctum Collective is absolutely my sort of thing, and one of the people involved is based a short walk from my house. I might see if I can get involved next year.

Mumsnet's targeted ads are mostly advertising Greenbelt to me at the moment Smile

And I've just had coffee with the secretary of the PCC. It was supposed to be about how to get a coffee rota set up, but ended up being a plotting session in which we admitted that we both had very similar sneaky long term plans for the church.

Madhairday · 31/07/2017 22:07

I must naturally like that Sanctum thing as I follow half those people on Twitter already!!

SP, that's lovely, so glad you liked it! I do like a good hymn belted out. I don't like it when they put modern words to old hymns but you can't have everything ... Hands is good, isn't it! 👐

McBounty · 01/08/2017 00:20

Hi everyone.
I am a total newbie to this thread. I hope it's okay that I butt right in? GrinGrin

I found my faith over this past year and was baptised yesterday. It felt just incredible. I have felt at peace ever since and it's really quite special. Smile

I just thought I'd pop by and say hello.

Dutchoma · 01/08/2017 07:09

Oh McBounty how wonderful. Congratulations and you are very welcome. I hope you will feel very much at home.
.Even I think 'hands' is good MHD but it has to be 'To God be the glory', not 'How great is our God'.

Both, dear Oma, both Smile ❤️

Welcome, McBounty. Great to see you here. So glad you're feeling so at peace.

Snap Grin

broomstick keep us posted - looks v interesting. And good news re PCC plotting Smile

McB welcome and congratulations, how lovely

SP you've reminded me that I keep saying I'm going to go to a happy clappy hands-waving church next... must try harder. Anyone got any recommendations in SE London? (Just for a one-off, I'm v happy in my church home)

BroomstickOfLove · 01/08/2017 11:39

Congratulations, McBounty. I was baptised in May, so it's all a bit new to me, too.

Niminy · 01/08/2017 14:57

McBounty congraulations! Welcome to the thread. Have a Brew though really we should be offering you champagne.

I have to do a placement in my third year of curacy, and feel that I should go to a hands-waving church for it so I can conquer my prejudices get over myself about the whole thing.

Madhairday · 01/08/2017 15:27

Hehehe

I don't know London that well but I know At Paul's Ealing is lovely as I have friends there. You could try HTB, some great folk there, I know some really don't like the whole alpha thing but I think that movement has done so very much for sharing the gospel and I think the people at the root of it all are good humble people. There's Kensington temple. Oh and Hillsong London, if you really want to go for it. Soul Survivor Watford, probably a bit far out. I'm sure there are lots of smaller places too though.

I do always smile when people say hand waving etc. I love raising my hands but not waving them around when they're up there Grin that would be just weird. Although maybe it's around the time to resurrect this little gem:

Niminy · 01/08/2017 16:00

Grin I hadn't seen that in a while.

McBounty · 01/08/2017 20:03

Thank you so much.

How kind. ❤️

nickelbeingnormal · 01/08/2017 21:49

Yes, mhd I watched her interview - she was lovely. And spoke very well

nickelbeingnormal · 01/08/2017 21:56

Nooooooo niminy ! Shock stay in the fold!

nickelbeingnormal · 01/08/2017 21:58

Or you could apply to HTS Wink

And hello and welcome mcbounty

DancingUnicorn · 01/08/2017 22:05

Edd I'm open for any SE London church suggestions... need more commitment to go when I'm not travelling to the church I sing with.

Madhairday · 01/08/2017 22:06

Or you can all come stay with me for a weekend and come to my church in sunny Shropshire. It's not extreme at all, pretty middle of the road with the odd hand raiser and the occasional hymn with organ Grin

DancingUnicorn · 01/08/2017 22:11

The two churches I've felt most 'at home' have been ones where I've known people. I find when I go somewhere new I'm not really sure how to say hello, so I just go and then leave straight away. The two were exact opposite ends of the spectrum I'd say. (Probably not quite) but I loved them both!

Niminy · 01/08/2017 23:16

Oh how I'd love to come to your church MHD! That would be so joyful!

In other news I have finally watched the last episode of Broken and am surrounded by a sea of tissues. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant.

EddSimcox · 02/08/2017 01:06

Dancing I'll PM you. Smile

I think I've told everyone I know here, in RL, on FB etc etc how much I loved Broken. I really wish DP would watch it, but it's "too catholic". Will be interesting to see how she goes with MIL's funeral, which is a standard RC funeral mass.

I've just realised I wont' get to church on a Sunday until September. That feels terrible. Last summer was the same - for different reasons - will have to plan a bit differently in future! Will let you know when I finally get to raise my hands and whether I get beyond holding the TV Grin

Dutchoma · 02/08/2017 06:32

I can't get the first episode of Broken to play. Am I too late to get it on iPlayer?

OP posts:
Madhairday · 02/08/2017 07:56

You're absolutely welcome anytime, niminy. We have plenty of room for you to stay too Smile

I loved Broken too. I keep thinking about it. Not sure if it's still on iplayer, it always seems to go really quickly, but I'm guessing it'll be available on dvd or a streaming service soon? Definitely want to get it.

Edd - praying for you and dp with the funeral coming up Flowers don't beat yourself up about not getting to church until September. You have us here supporting you in love and prayer, and God gets it and is holding you tight.

Grin at holding the TV. I'm fond of village people myself, but most definitely not washing the windows. Grin

BroomstickOfLove · 02/08/2017 08:20

Oma, I had a look on iPlayer and Broken should be available until 10pm tomorrow night.

Dutchoma · 02/08/2017 08:35

But is that the first or the last episode, Broomstick?

OP posts:
Madhairday · 02/08/2017 08:57

I've just looked, Oma. The whole series is available until 10pm tomorrow so you've got some binge watching to do!!
