I know you're out there.

There's a lot of discussion on this board about things I don't beleive in at all. But there is not much about CHristian issues. Are you all totally sorted and have nothing to worry about, or are you all too busy elsewhere? Just interested to know who is about, and where you would place yourselves.

Both dh and I are Christians and we are bringing up our 3 children to understand our faith, we hope. We're in the Scottish Episcopal Church but don't fit in too well where we go (limited choice, we live on an island) as they are pretty liberal/traditional and we are on the evangelical side of the church. There are some local interdenominational groups which are quite good though. Our plans are to work through the church in Guatemala, not as traditional 'missionaries' but putting ourselves into the culture to live and work out our faith as we do at home.

Would love to hear form anyone else out there!!

1978 riots, rapes and murders in srilanka caused by the buddhist monks!

papillon · 30/05/2004 14:22

Please ignore the last two persons who have just recently been discovered loitering on an outer planet from the star CoKu Tau 4.
I promise to do my upmost to banish them to some yonder thread but expect them also spend some time in yurt quarantine.
I promise to smack both of them for you all (unless you prefer some other method of disciplinary action)

None of you have ever come and harrassed us on our threads, where we enjoy and learn so much from one another in good company. Please, welcome to the Sprit Board and may you enjoy it as much as I/we have.

Papillon

hercules · 30/05/2004 14:24

Is that me?

papillon · 30/05/2004 14:25

Please if you wish to respond do so in the most lighthearted manner
This is a thread of people getting to know each other. I am sure they are not going be the NWO.

papillon · 30/05/2004 14:25

hercules · 30/05/2004 14:56

Sorry mum

muddaofsuburbia · 30/05/2004 20:54

Wow we must be more popular that I thought - the trolls are out in force today!

Thanks for being our bouncer Papillon

hercules · 30/05/2004 21:18

Err - how am I a troll?????

hercules · 30/05/2004 21:26

bump

hercules · 30/05/2004 21:33

(For those who don?t know a troll is someone who poses as someone else in order to stir up trouble, fulfil their own perverted agenda, or just for the hell of it).

muddaofsuburbia · 30/05/2004 22:32

No nonononononon! Not you Hercules!!! You're one of the good guys ! I was just a little suspicious of Muggle's sudden appearance on this thread and his/her bizarre comments on what started as a getting to know you thread for Christian parents.

And if Muggle is genuine then let's talk about faith on another thread - ok?

glitterfairy · 30/05/2004 22:33

sorry paps if you are cross am sorry! Am in the yurt doing penance but would just like to say that we have had good chats on the baptism threads and others where we did have discussion about christian values and the rights and wrongs. Am afraid that I was incensed by the original sin! And have to say it should be allowed to disagree! Anyway sorry again oh great boss

muddaofsuburbia · 30/05/2004 22:47

Right GF I understand now - you've been rumbled. And poor Hercules got caught in the crossfire too

ScummyMummy · 30/05/2004 22:59

Why have you been banished, gothicmama? I don't understand...

jodee · 30/05/2004 23:00

Quickly back-pedalling to Mudda's Hokey Cokey (very funny!), we used to read Mick Inkpen's 'Stories from the Bible' (great illustrations too) to ds at bedtime when he was younger - he is now a rebellious 4 year old who insists on Thomas the Tank Engine instead; where did we go so wrong!

ScummyMummy · 30/05/2004 23:02

Well T the TE is by a Rev, Jodee!

lilibet · 30/05/2004 23:03

to get back to the original thread - when do you plan to go Susan - and just know that we well be sending loads and loads of prayers with you

muddaofsuburbia · 30/05/2004 23:06

Mick Inkpen stuff is lovely - isn't he the same guy who illustrates Kipper the dog books?

Ds current favourite book (apart from the Good Book of course ) is a Veggietales boardbook, but I have no idea what a gourd or a scallion is!? Is a gourd the same as a squash?

ScummyMummy · 30/05/2004 23:12

Yes, mudda. A gourd is a squash is a guord is a squash.

Judd · 30/05/2004 23:14

Hello, Christians here as well. DH is local preacher in the Methodist Church and I became a member (was brought up in Anglican church) 2 years ago. Will never never be sorted, constantly despair at my lack of faith, vision, and my ability to wander off.....

BearintheBigBlueHouse · 30/05/2004 23:23

A scallion is what you English call a spring onion.

jodee · 30/05/2004 23:35

Scummy, of course! That's OK then, I like his lateral thinking!

Miaou · 30/05/2004 23:39

Just to add another dimension, I am a christian and dh is agnostic. he is ok about dds being brought up to believe in God (which they do, fanatically), on the basis that they can make their own decisions as they get older. Anyone else in the same position?

Hey Miaou, that sounds similar to us. I am christian and dp is aetheist. We agreed to bring any children we have up as Christians, and to do everything in our power to ensure that they make an informed and thoughtful choice about religion for themselves.

DS loves coming to chuch with me. Our church is very child focused. He has always loved the songs and stories. At 16 months his current favourites are the blessing (he went back for seconds yesterday - and he's usually first in the queue) and the collection (which he either chases round the collectors or just marches straight up to the vicar with). During Lent he was intrigued by the spaces where there is usually ornamentation and pointed it out to everyone - so I know what you mean about looking at adoration at your little religious zealot mudda!

Guatemala sounds fab susan, and I like the idea of what you are planning to do (I prefer St Paul's ideas on evangelising!)
