Salaam and hello to all.

Thought I would take the liberty of starting a new thread as I didn't get to say Eid Mubarak on the last one and I do like checking in with you all Smile

So come in, pull up a chair and have some lovely biryani - and there's baklava for dessert Wink

I just ordered my DC clothes form Rupali and accessories as well. I do not want to be worrying about Eid outfits nearer Eid, and everything is usually sold out by then anyway.

yummytummy · 26/06/2015 13:30

I think bhaajis is an english term. We have always known them as pakoras which i think is an urdu/ hindi word. Anyway they taste good whatever especially the aubergines ones my ex mil used to make

peacefuloptimist · 26/06/2015 14:52

Okay more questions. What is the difference between ghapati and roti? Also are parathas are a separate one too? Do you eat roti with certain things and parathas with others? Are they made in the same way?

yummytummy · 26/06/2015 15:55

Okay chapati and roti is the same thing roti possibly urdu word. Parathas are more heavy and have layers of ghee or fat inside whereas a roti is just the flour and water mix. Parathas are more "fancy" and more for special occasions but rotis for everyday

Feeling really really angry about all of the awful crimes committed today in the name of our religion. When will this end and what can we do to stop it? Sad

In Ramadan too.

QofF · 26/06/2015 23:08

Stepping over from the Christian Prayer Thread with prayers for all those killed, injured and affected today and prayers for solidarity between us all in the face of what is happening.

alteredimages · 27/06/2015 00:20

Thanks QofF for your message of solidarity. Events like these need a unified response I think, as further division is the terrorists' primary aim.

Will be praying for the victims and their families.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/06/2015 06:44

I'm so upset and angry about the attacks. They have been deliberately planned on Friday on Ramadan people are saying to cause maximum distress. They have killed the tourism industry in North Africa and it will take generations to recover. I know that might sound petty but milliOns of people rely on that industry especially in morocco and Tunisia. Fewer tourists = more poverty, more insular societies and therefore more terrorists recruited to Isis. It's a disaster not only for the people who died and their families but the whole Arab world. When and how will this end?

Ouchyouch · 27/06/2015 13:02

Ramadan Mubarak everyone.

Sorry for the hijack, i have an issue that i have posted on a different thread (about how many of us fasting in ramadan) and am copying and pasting a bit of it here too.

I am still breastfeeding, morning and night (several times during the night) as I am back at work now. My baby is 13 months old and since yesterday has stopped breastfeeding. This is the first time that i am fasting since baby was born. I am worried as he never refuses feeds. I havent had any trouble fasting alhamdulillah but am unsure why he is refusing feeds? Is it the fasting? He is teething as well but that has never put him off feeding before. It has been over 24 hours since his last feed and I am getting really sore.

Can anyone advise if this is related to fasting or is it the teething/blocked nose? Just to re-iterate, baby has not refused a breastfeed in any of the previous fasts, nor has he ever refused a feed when previously teething. I am getting really sore and leaking and am terrified of the pain of engorgement which normally puts me in bed. Can anyone advise what to do please? I tried to coax baby into feeding, but he was having none of it. This is a baby who normally needs to be breastfed to sleep. He is well (apart from teething/runny nose) and eating solids fine, just not breastfeeding. Twhat should i do?

peacefuloptimist · 27/06/2015 13:11

Another one here horrified and heartbroken about what has happened. What is going on? Its just utter madness. Imagine attacking a mosque, the muslim place of worship, on the busiest prayer, jumuah, on the holiest day of the week, Friday, of the holiest month for Muslims, Ramadhan. Then they have the gall to mention God's name when everything they have done is making an absolute mockery of the sanctity of the religions symbols.

And what has Tunisia got to do with it? I just cant understand what beef they have with Tunisia unless its just to destabilise the country and the whole region.

Its so tragic the way they have no respect for human life. All those tourists who lost their lives and their poor families. Cant they even put themselves in their place for one second and imagine how it feels to be killed for something you have absolutely nothing to do with and dont even understand.

Then the one in France I cant even keep up with. I heard he killed his former boss. What has that got to do with anything? This group is just giving the mentally ill a chance to die in a blaze of infamy.

They dont care about the impact their actions have on other Muslims. Or maybe that is their intent, to punish the majority of the world's muslims for refusing to take part in their unholy war.

Im just so scared about what the future holds. Im scared of the world that my children are going to grow up in. I want to make it better but honestly I dont know how when on both sides there are secular and religious fundamentalists pushing for a civilisational war. It gives me chills when I hear people talking so casually about genocide of Muslims which is ultimately what would need to happen to remove Islam from the world. A modern day Inquisition. That is ultimately what both sides want. To look at the world and only see their reflection looking back at them. To speak and only hear the echo of their own voice. Its very hard to be optimistic but we just cant give up hope.

May Allah Grant Comfort, Justice and Peace to all those living in the world. May God protect us all and put out the fire of hatred and fanaticism of all stripes that makes people lose sight of their own humanity and increase us all in our Love and Mercy towards one another. AMEEN.

EhricLovesTheBhrothers · 27/06/2015 13:34

Yes. It's terrifying. I think that Isis are targeting moderate Muslim States to punish Muslims they see as being traitors to the religion by living by more 'western' values. They don't want Muslim countries to welcome tourism from the west as it 'pollutes' the society with western influence. Never mind that morocco and Tunisia have been tourist destinations for generations and have happily welcomed the cultural exchange and opportunities that they bring. I'm so worried about what this will do to morocco as my whole family out there rely on tourism to live (sil more or less supports them all as a hotel manager) and there are no other jobs to be had. I know that sounds small in the scheme of the problems but it's just so sad. I love that part of the world so much and I hate to think of it changing for the worse.

whataboutbob · 27/06/2015 18:58

I grew up in Algeria in the 70s and 80s, ironically we used to go across the border and holiday in Tunisia as it was more laid back, and you could find pork and chocolate there! in Algeria, you could sense the post colonial anger against Westerners (we were frequently thrown stones at). Not so in Tunisia, we'd turn up at a hotel , were welcomed and our parents knew they could leave us with the staff and nothing bad would happen to us. Unlike Libya and Algeria of course, Tunisia and Morocco have no oil and so have made the best of things and aimed to develop a middle class, and invested in tourism and commerce.Fundamentalists disapprove of this, as Ehric said there is a feeling in some quarters that the presence of non believers "pollutes" the land.
ISIS is in Libya, I guess they would like to push on through Tunisia and beyond. They will meet a very rough reception in Algeria, which is basically a military dictatorship who will take absolutely no prisoners- as the oil field siege last year showed.
I sometimes miss north Africa, for all the trouble there are beautiful things there. But i wouldn't go, and I certainly wouldn't take my kids.

IPityThePontipines · 28/06/2015 00:48

I think there are lots of disparate groups using IS as a banner of convenience, in order to gain media attention and a public reaction.

Anti-Shia violence is a sadly common occurrence in Pakistan, but because it's not done under the IS banner, it doesn't get global attention.

Positivelyfatalistic · 28/06/2015 10:42

Ramadan kareem dear sisters,

I am another absolutely horrified by what happened on Friday in France, Tunisia and Kuwait. More sacrilege and blasphemy on top of sacrilege and blasphemy by the terrorists and extremists. I am sick and tired of this religion being hijacked and being associated with these murderous evil groups. There is a demonstration being planned in London on Saturday 26th July for us British Muslims and our friends to all unite to condemn ISIS and say 'Not in our name'.

from the site page:

""It's time we claimed back our religion.

We walk because we condemn ISIS.
We walk because we condemn terrorism.
We walk to mourn the victims of ISIS.
We walk because we are Muslims.

~oOo~

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

ISIS has claimed the lives of many, and are even using social media to brainwash our youths. They are coming into our homes every night on the news and through the internet. Let us gather in a crowd that represents British Muslims, and make the news headlines this time. It's time we do something about this!

Let at least one person come from every Muslim household to represent our population. Let us show the world what true Islam is. We have to speak up and let this be a message that they are completely rejected by Muslims.

Let's make this immense, so ISIS are shaken by the headlines from us for once!!

May Allah help us make this walk a success.

Ameen.""""

Sisters please please make the effort to get down for this demonstration of peace. we have one month to get as many people as we can out. Tell your family, local mosque, womens associations, madressahs, lets put out coaches and fliers and organise our youngsters and our elders to attend also. lets make it as huge as we can and something that will make our fellow citizens realise we are a peaceful respectable law abiding people and that we hate ISIS more than anyone. And as a mark of condolence for the victims of ISIS and terror groups.

alteredimages · 28/06/2015 14:18

I will be in the UK then, but not necessarily near London. I will try and rearrange my schedule though, this is too important to miss.

Positivelyfatalistic · 28/06/2015 21:04

That's great altered, I really hope you can make it and other people too Inshaallah. People from Leicester Birmingham Newcastle Glasgow Etc please try to come down to this event in London. The organiser has already been interviewed here:

madhairday · 29/06/2015 18:33

Just popping over again from the Christian prayer thread to say I'm standing with you, my Muslim sisters, and again feel sickened at the level of hate I see in the media, round and about, and the ignorance that is out there against you :( I am shocked about the attacks on friday and know well they are not in your name. Just wanted to be in solidarity with you, and say you are in my prayers, if that is OK?

Teacup246 · 29/06/2015 20:47

Thank you madhairday your kindness and prayers are much appreciated

peacefuloptimist · 29/06/2015 23:05

Thank you for your kind and thoughtful message madhairday. It does help to stop me from being overwhelmed by the wave of negativity when I read comments like yours. Its just so sad because groups like ISIS thrive by exploiting tensions and creating divisions between people.

Thanks for the heads up about the demo positively. I hope there is a good turnout.

MsAspreyDiamonds · 01/07/2015 07:29

Need a bit of handholding sisters as it's my dad's Janazza today. It's all going to be intense and I have to keep it together for my mum. I've already had words with one nutty relation so no doubt there will be more of them.

Positivelyfatalistic · 01/07/2015 08:26

So sorry dear msasprey. 'To God we come from and to Him we return'. It will be harder for you as it is Ramadan as well so take care of yourself too as well as your mother. Be diplomatic and patient with nutty relatives, they are grieving too in their own way (I could write you a book). Remember sadness and crying is natural and normal it doesn't mean you are challenging or questioning Decree. comfort each other through it inshaallah. So sorry sis.

yummytummy · 01/07/2015 08:34

Sorry to hear Msasprey. It must be so hard for you all. Hope you can comfort each other and there are kind relatives as well as difficult ones. Will be thinking of you. Sending duas for you and family

alteredimages · 01/07/2015 09:43

Inna lillah w lahu raja'oun.

So sorry to hear that MrsAsprey. I hope that the nutty relatives aren't as bad as you fear and that you are able to support your mum and have time to grieve yourself.

Will make dua for you and your family. Flowers

Teacup246 · 01/07/2015 09:46

Will be thinking of you today MsAspreyDiamonds
